Regarding the "joke" at 36:30, below is a quotation from the relevant part of the script of 'Marathon Man' (1976 movie; script by the great William Goldman--check out his fiction and non-fiction books). [Professor to the class] -- I say, "Let us hush this cry of progress till years have passed." That's a quote. Who said that? Come on. Who said that? Well, somebody must know the answer! Tennyson, Alfred Lord Tennyson. You can't compete on a doctoral level and not know "Locksley Hall". I hope you all flunk! Dismissed. ... [After class, Professor to the Dustin Hoffman character] -- Why didn't you answer that Tennyson question? It was obvious you knew. [Dustin Hoffman character] -- I... I don't know. [Professor] -- How am I to fathom your mind if you continue to hide it from me?
I was looking for an explanation. However I can't relate your Marathon Man quote to what GM Feingold said. He said "he was thinking that, but he didn't say nothin' ". What's the connection?
I don't even play chess, but some how stumbled upon one of the videos with Ben yesterday. Needless to say, I now have a newfound interest in chess, and will keep watching videos with Ben because he makes learning the game entertaining.
Ben needs to sell a shirt with "very suspicious" on it... and probably some chess pieces or something so the shirt isn't very suspicious. I would buy the hell outta that.
Little by little, Ben's chess wisdom is seeping into my consciousness, and I'm slowly becoming a better player. Here's what I found useful: 1. Never trade 2. Never play f6/f3 3. Always repeat 4. Don't give checks' for checks sake, figure out what you're gonna do afterwards 5. Don't hurry
@@blooburryz6887 No, it's not late, I was refreshing this page like mad. Yes, trading is good when you're up in material. I think that GM Feingold rarely finds himself in such positions in serious play.
What he talks about in the end is one of my most painfull memories in chess. I was rated 1250 at the time an Lichess decided to give me a 1490 opponent for some reason. I played a great game, took a loose knight and was getting ready to checkmate in two moves by my strategy. I was taking a pawn and expected a recapture with another pawn, basically giving the knight back but forking the king and rook afterwards by a queen recapture. And he didn't capture. He moved his second knight. I din't think much of it, thought he had given up, proceded to let the knight go packman mode and collected another pawn. Well his pawn then forked my queen and king and it was GG. Still hurts to this day.
If you still play chess you are probably now rated much higher than you were back then so you don't care that you lost to a 1500 lichess opponent as now you see 1500 lichess players as horrible players.
You must be new here. Finegold talks shit about everyone and everything. It's a shtick. Also, I just donated $50 to make up for the $50 you didn't donate. So hah.
Jonathan Ferguson It is very common for people who fixate on things (such as playing chess) to miss out on other things. Such as educating yourself politically. He has probably never even watched Fox, he just understands the liberal mainstream perception of them. He is politically ignorant and shouldn't be making political remarks, these kids don't know any better and they probably assume _he_ does, which he doesn't. That is why in public school, teachers aren't allowed to politically express themselves. I'm very intelligent but I didn't become political until I was in my 20s. Ben clearly hasn't even become interested in politics yet, many people never do. He may not have even understood what ideologies he was mocking.
Almost all Ashkenazi Jews are intensely interested in politics and I'm sure Ben is no exception. He's mentioned in other videos that he's a Marxist (or in his words, that he and his father consider the average liberal to be right wing.) He's a walking advertisement for why you don't let people into your nation who don't share your culture or your values.
Jonathan Ferguson If we lived in a Marxist society, there would be no Grandmasters because it isn't egalitarian to have someone be better than another, it creates a hierarchy, a _class struggle._ Shouldn't good chess players be successful? Or is that unfair to the bad chess players? Ben obviously doesn't believe these things, he is just confused and politically naive, he may not even know what Marxism is exactly. If he was ever interested enough in politics to have his ideas challenged, he wouldn't be a Marxist. Though I do find it strange how all Jews tend to share that same ignorance. As if they are genetically predisposed to that ideology.

at 23:31 why can wight play knight to e4 attacking the queen and bishop, and after the queen moves and capturing the bishop you will have tempo on the light square bishop. nvm: Thats a stupid idea because he can play queen to e7
He plays chess so much that he never had time to educate himself politically, much like many of the people on this page. Why he finds it ok to make political remarks to children I have no idea. I assume many of you people are also "normies." Fox news isn't perfect, but CNN, MSNBC, CBS, et cetera, are all much, _much_ worse. Any politically educated, objective centrist can see that.
Have to say that I kinda understand Ben, but still... :D He doesn't want to restrain his thought process by being context aware, and being witty (more or less) is too much fun for him and what he is about. The issue is not about Fox news per se, but the fact that he's talking politics to the kids, as Tristan said.
kedonsiemen Yes, I can see the humor in that, if it were a movie I might have laughed. However, being that the kids probably look up to him as most young people would, Ben is planting lies in their sponge-like heads. The next time that kid is asked about Fox news, you know what he will say? "Oh, Fox news is crazy." Despite never watching it or the alternatives. We live in a country of two parties, Fox news so far is the _only_ network not completely left of center. Saying Fox News is crazy is telling the kids that conservatism altogether is crazy so be cool like me and be a liberal normie imbecile. I gotta say, I don't like Ben as much after that one remark. Not only is he brainwashing children, but he is clearly completely oblivious to politics. Politically he is a _child._ I'm only 21 and I am more educated than he is, maybe not in chess, but apparently, that is all Ben has room for in his tiny little brain.
Sorry Tristan, don't want start discussing politics here, and I'm not from the States so I don't have clear enough picture about the situation concerning TV there, but I was going to say with almost the exact same words that these kids indeed have sponge-like brains and that they indeed absorb any information they can get without much filtering, so it's to say the least questionable to put this kind of thoughts into their heads.
I'm sure Finegold is politically educated, he has actually seen something of this world, having lived abroad, played tournaments, socialized with many different people, unlike many, many Fox News viewers. When you meet people from other places, it's much harder to be jingoistic ignoramus.

Yes, I can see the humor in that, if it were a movie I might have laughed.
Thank you Grandmaster Finegold. You are Golden. And it reminds me of a saying I heard, "Lose Pieces Drop Off!"

I learned how to play chess at school in the 4th grade and my teacher, Mr. Shield, loved to drop that line after stating something that should've been obvious to the class.
Ben, sign that kid up immediately, you have found your cohost.
