    Excellent instructions. I did this today except to replace my heater control module. Its the same procedure. Wish I would have seen this video first. Couple of other suggestions for everyone. Once the radio is removed, MAKE SURE to write down the serial number of the stereo. If you don't have the stereo code, you will need the serial number to attain the security code from the dealership or a Honda website (you can look up via google). If you reinstall the factory radio, you will need the code to make the radio operational.

    Wow, what a spectacular pain in the ass. I'm starting to think the install charge at the shop down the street is looking pretty attractive! But I hate those guys, so I'm doing it myself and your video is extremely helpful, so thank you!

      So I did the install yesterday, and it's not all that bad. Just tedious. But this video made it possible, I'd never have found all those screws otherwise. The only way I differed is that I didn't completely remove the panel on under the steering wheel. God knows I tried, but it wouldn't come free on the left side so I let it hang. It was loose enough to be out of the way for the rest of the work to be done.

    Ash tray removal is NOT required. It may be helpful but since it takes a rare 90° screwdriver, I thought it worth mentioning. I've had that console apart many many times and I never did that step.

      Once you remove the cup holder, you can just push a screwdriver through some holes that align with the screws up top!

      I've never owned a 90 degree screwdriver and I'm kind of a tool fanatic. In that situation I just use a 1/4" ratchet with a small socket that fits a screwdriver bit. Forget what size that is. Hope this helps someone that doesn't have a 90 driver but has a 1/4" ratchet and small sockets. But as said above, maybe that step isn't necessary.

      Sorta what's happening at the junk yard... Most the people are putting things to pry with between the dash and the plastic around the radio, straight up ripping it out rendering loads of parts broken. Life in northern California...

    • @ryanpham3308
      @ryanpham3308 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alecfleming373, no different in Minnesota. The U-Pull-R-Parts closest to where I live had 5 1st-gen CR-Vs that had a torn-up dash panel, all for the radio/CD changer. Give or take, it was the one with the available cassette deck, but the things people will do these days just to save a few seconds for the parts...

    Took me about 45 minutes to remove. What an absolute gong show. When you get to the end pull as hard as you can on the radio. He made it look easy. Those top clips are extremely hard if you have the CD option, since you have to bottom pocket to grasp onto

    holy shit I thought Honda was smarter than that! that is unbelievable you have to go through all of that in order to remove and replace the radio. I think it would be easier to just you take a boom box and plug it into the car outlet and turn it to hell on. thanks for taking the time to share this task from hell.

    I replaced the original casete player from my 2000 crv with a cd and cassette player from a 200 honda crv I got it on junk yard and they have the same plug on the back so u dont have to cut your wires just have to remove your cassette player and the little box underneath and the new CD player will fit your crv perfect u need to get the serial number from the new CD player and just call a local honda dealer give them the serial number so they can give you the code just tell them u disconnect your battery and now your CD player asking for the code it worked for me and now I have CD player cassette and radio on my 2000 crv thanks a lot for your video I almost messed up my dashboard panels

  • @DjbGumpy
    @DjbGumpy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The 2000 Crv I have has two square holes below the ashtray so the 90 degree screwdriver isn't needed. You just put the screwdriver from below straight up.
    The set of trim tools you should have to help pop things out are cheap to acquire online. Well worth it and I got them for under $10. Helps do the job right.
    Good video, very precise. Just keep track of which screws came from where.

    Great tutorial. Was looking at this video to help a friend with a Gen 1. What a pain in the ass. Glad I have a Gen 2. Stereo swap takes less then 5 minutes and only 4 screws. Easy as pie. Glad Honda simplified things on the Gen 2's.

  • @kylaveitch7835
    @kylaveitch7835 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I completed this today without removing the whole bottom section. Just need to take that panel under the steering wheel off and the glove box part. From there you can pry the sides of the midsection away and see the two screws on either side of the stereo and heating unit. It's a little tight but well worth the time savings taking a dozen or more screws out and the whole bottom section out! I used a small socket with a 2inch extention to get the screw on the driver's side.

  • @Jayj93pgt
    @Jayj93pgt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    most people are surprised to find out they have to remove all of these panels to get to the stereo. But if you own a crv and had to change your turn signal bulbs in the front you have to remove the grille, and the front bumper so that you can remove the headlight housing so you can access the turn signal bulbs. The oil filter is also a real pleasure to access, mounted horizontally above the exhaust manifold so you get to enjoy the smell of burnt oil (which if you own a Honda you have experienced at least once anyway) everytime you change your oil. Not to mention it is halfway up the engine compartment. This is why it costs so much in labor when you have these babies serviced at a mechanic. Some cars are not for the faint of heart. Excellent video, very easy to follow and understand and I feel confident in tackling this project in the next day or so to install a stereo for my GF in her 01 crv.

    OMG I can see why my 99 still has the factory stereo.. I only wish it had a clock in the stereo instead of the stupid separate clock that died. Ugh this will be an all day project. At least I know ahead of time that I need to disassemble half of the car to get to the stereo lol. Thanks for the help!

    • @mitaka81
      @mitaka81 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rachael B that is all made on purpose to be pain in the butt, because that era was very popular for stealing stereos out of cars if u remember. Your dead clock is a 5 min job repair. Just pull it out and resolder 4 large solder traces on the corners of the back side pcb, that kills 99,99% of the crv clocks

    BEFORE YOU PULL THE RADIO**
    If you're trying to find the serial number on the radio, simply pry under the "vents/clock/four-ways" above the radio and pull out the whole component.
    Then stick a cell phone with flash into the hole above your radio,
    take a picture and there it is.. Your serial number is right on top.
    You could use a mirror or something if not able to take picture but I don't think you'll be able to see the number without getting around some components.
    Hope this helps!

    Excellent video on how to remove! I love doing self repairs and maintenance on things, yet, I find that I don't always put them back together the original way it came. When I try to adjust the volume when playing music, it either gets louder or lower. I do have pot cleaning spray fluids to use, but would I have to still take the unit apart to gain access to it? I would consider replacing the original factory stereo/CD player with a new one, yet that would be another video for me to watch.
    I appreciate your terrific video, as it satisfied my curiosity and the mysteries of how to disassemble that part of the SUV.
    Have a Blessed Day!

    Curse you Honda and your anti-theft radio codes!!!! I recommend you never (unless necessary) disconnect your battery for models 00 and under. You lose your radio and need to put in you specific code. oh Honda will charge $100 apx for you to do This 10 min removal. FOH.
    I really fell in love with this car.
    I'm certainly going to make a updated version of this "car radio removal" with HD other camera angles.

    What I wanna know is.... If it's such a PITA to get the radio out, why did it have to be equipped with an anti-theft feature that requires the serial number off the bottom of the radio to get the damn code.

    How do you make the original pocket work with the radio? Maybe the radio I got doesn't work with the factory mounts..

    This is when you realize engineers over think things.
