Thank you for this video. I just bought a 2001 crv 180,000 miles. No idea of past service history. I will be changing all fluids, belts and a few other things.
This guy sounds like a calm decaffeinated architect. But did anybody notice that he's so damn strong that he was dragging the CR-V towards him trying to break that bolt loose LOL
I wish to make a note here; I own a 1999 Honda CRV AWD Automatic. Honda has in the last couple of years "Totally Replaced" their transmission fluid to Honda DW1. This fluid has metal in it which replaces lost metallics in the clutches. I replaced all the fluid in mine to DW1. As per Honda it is recommended that you make at least 3 changes, 100 miles apart so as to get all the DW1 in the transmission. And, Yes, Changing the fluids "DOES" correct shifting concerns. There are also Shift Solenoids outside the transmission that fail and can cause shifting problems. I do like your video. And, Yes, you are correct about Honda not making their own fluids. Great video
The 3 qt and 3 oz (or 3.1 qt) capacity is for 4WD transmissions. My 1999 CR-V is 2WD so it would need less - 2.9 qt or 2.7 liters (this is according to the service manual)
Great video! I only watched it for kicks, as my 1999 CR-V is a manual that I have already fluid changed, but you were very informative and explained everything well!
My transmission was serviced by a certified Honda mechanic and they still overfilled it. I just hope its the right fluid as its been running on it for about 6 years.
4:08 The level may not be too high, it may be above the temperature that you're meant to take a reading. For my car, the temperature is 81 degrees C, but the fluid can get hotter than that, and I can take a reading above the mark after a long drive...the manual suggests around a 15min drive, for my car.
this is whey they want you to drive for 15 min so engine is at the most accurate temperture and they want you to read dipstick no more then a minute after shutdown.if his engine was running hotter then normal that could cause higher then normal fluid level, you could get service info specs and see what engine operated temp is and compare that with those gun thermometer but thats kinda overkill
So I just drained the old fluid out, filled and flushed it twice, and then filled it again (total of 3 fills). No it sputters and won't go into 4th gear. Any ideas? And you were right about how tight those plugs can get.
Don't do a flush..just a change. If you flush it, then you'll be flushing everything out of it, including every piece of metal shavings. I know that's what you want BUT those that small amount of metal shavings keep the torque converter in your transmission engaged. If you don't believe me, TH-cam it.
GodFirst what are the symptoms of the torque converter not functioning properly? The reason I ask is that it’s acting up again. It shifts a tad hard, but it at least doesn’t get stuck in first anymore. And at random my tachometer will cut out. No biggie, it’s not my speedometer, and I can generally feel/hear my rpm’s and when it shifts no problem. Any ideas?
I don't know man, but mine only 2 and half quarter, 1999 CR-V, and checked a lot and the fluid level is just right at second mark on the deep stick, i put three quarter and fluid level was above second mark by too much and I had to remove little by little till get it to second mark on the deep stick, and I don't want to take more to make between two marks on the deep stick.
This is great! I have the same engine in my civic and I appreciate what you have shown me. I have seen other transmission pictures and some show an internal filter. Have you ever changed that? God bless your work and I appreciate the bold statement at the end showing Col 2:23.
Excellent little piece of scripture in the end there thank you, GOD bless you and your family and friends and thank you for the video. Jesus of Nazareth is The LORD!
No. There is an internal screen that allegedly gets purged when draining the old fluid. I haven't verified that, but read it on other videos regarding Honda automatic transmissions.
Hello, I had a quick question. I bought this car a while ago. And I've been doing maintenance on it, but in the time I've owned it, I never changed the fluid, and I don't think the previous owners did either. If I change the fluid now after all this time and mileage, could it cause problems? My car drives fine, the transmission doesn't have any issues that I know of. I'd more be doing this as a tune up or touch up. But if it'll cause more problems I'd rather just leave it.
@@c_h_r_i_s_t_c_o_r_e so I ended up flushing mine as it has been done on my vehicle before. Valvoline had my service history for the car so I was able to find out. Id check your Carfax history. And if your mileage is under 135000 I've read you can still flush it as well.

Thank you for showing the ATF company, Honda charges quite a bit for their fluid.
They do, that's for sure.
Love the mortal kombat audio clips, UDAMAN. Always use DW1 for these CRVs. They do not like anything else.
Take the air box out and you can access the fill opening better. Under fill then add little by little.

are the washers the same size as the oil drain plug washer? Cause I have about 50 of them.

It doesn't say on Idemitsu website anywhere that the fluid is synthetic. I'm reluctant to use that and use Amsoil transmission fluid instead

why not use DW-1?
Too expensive lol. Honestly I've used Valvoline full synthetic fluid with great results. I'm running that fluid now.
The proper fluid for a 2001 Honda CRV is DW1. Your showing putting in Type Hplus
Watch the video again.....H is for Honda.....Clearly shows DW1 on the back of the jug.
Do the 1999 CR-V’s have a transmission filter that you needa change also?
