    Awesome video. Not unethical in my opinion. What's unethical is that Toyota would force a paying customer to fork over even more money by requiring that they buy an entire TRD Pro vehicle just to get the stupid wheels. People should be able to do as they please with their car and their money. The only thing missing from this video is a better wide angle shot to see what those tires look like. I am going to throw these on my 2019 4Runner TRD Pro and want as many previews as I can get. Thank you!

    This helped a lot! I just recently purchased a 2018 TRD Off Road Tacoma and I wanted to put 275/75/16 ko2's on the stock rim. However now I Believe that is too wide and I think I'm going to stick with 265/75/16. Also just found your channel and subscribed, congrats on 500 subs!

      @squaredawayeveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey thanks brotha, yeah the 275/75/16 will be a little too big. The height of this 17 inch wheel and tire set up is roughly 32.16 inches. On the 265/75/16 you'll be just fine, it measure about half an inch smaller than the 17 inch set up, measuring in at roughly 31.65 inches. In the long run though, whenever you upgrade suspension, a 33" tire on a 16 inch wheel looks so much better to me; that is of course relative. Hope this helps. I have a vid coming this Wednesday on the biggest 16 inch wheel and tire set up for the stock Tacoma.

      Yep, once I do a small lift I plan on staying with a 16 inch rim because I love the look of bigger tires on a 16 inch rim. Plus even more sidewall coverage

      @@zachariah2089 I own a Stock 2019 TRD Off Road Tacoma and put 265/75/16 KO2's on it about a year ago. I have done some light to moderate off-roading with it and haven't experienced any issues. I just recently purchased some Fuel BLITZ 16X8 Wheels that I am going to have installed in a couple of weeks. I also wanted to stick with a 16 inch wheel as I want more sidewall to help out while off -roading and plowing through snow with those KO2's. Even after I do a 3in F 2in R lift I am sticking with 16's but will try to go as close to a 33 inch tire as possible without having to do a Cab Mount Chop.

    Yeah, it's silly that the stealerships lock down the TRD stuff. I actually own a 2020 TRD Pro 4Runner (bought it new, FROM this dealer) and had a heck of a time getting the parts to add a couple more cross bars to the stock TRD Pro roof rack. When I was talking to the parts guy my truck was parked right outside his window and yet it was still like asking for whale blubber at a PETA convention. I have no idea why they're so spooky with this stuff.

    275 70r 17 = 275 millimeters wide or 10.38 inches wide. The side wall of the tire is 70% of the with of the tire or 192.5 millimeters. That is 7.58 inches. Multiply 7.58 by 2 and ad 17 inches for the rim and you get 32 10.5 17 tire in Merica.

    Great video. Just bought a 2021 Tacoma trd off road but 2wd. It’s my daily driver maybe 15% light off road hence the 2wd. Hate the stock tire and rims.
    I wanna keep it stock, but I want aftermarket wheels and tires. Was thinking of the Toyo OC 3s AT tires love the tread design.
    What wheel set up should I get?. 17/8 17/9 or a 16 inch wheel, and an off set of 0 to no more than -6. Don’t want positive offset since stock is like + 25. Tire size either 265/70/17 or 265 /75/16. I don’t mind going with the 16 inch provided I find a nice wheel. However there are more options for wheels in 17 inch seems like.
    I just want a beefier stance without any mods or cutting or re shaping. No lifts or spacers, Can you please provide a recommendation for me? Thank you.!!!

    What is the biggest 16” wheel/tire combo for the Tacoma? I have the Trd off road and I really like the stock wheels. I have heard 265/75/16?

    • @squaredawayeveryday
      @squaredawayeveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could probably run a 275/75/16. With this you'll be only 1/10 of an inch wider than the 275/70/17 I reference in this video. So the end result would probably be a bit more rubbing, however the 16 inch wheel will set you up for more sidewall if you choose to upgrade suspension and tires down the road. Keep in mind that you'll still need some offset on the wheel you go with.

Now I’m undecided on which all-terrain tires to run on these wheels. I’m looking at both the k02’s and the Falken wild peaks. I was originally set on k02’s, but I constantly hear about the balancing issues people have to deal with, and personally I don’t want to deal with going back and forth for rebalancing. Thanks for the info! Subscribed!! Would like your thoughts/comments. I have a '21 Tacoma OR and I'm looking at adding the TRD Pro wheels. (Love that "near stock" look of the Pro's w/ BFG's) I've read thru Tacoma World and found a thread regarding 2 different Pro wheels - a Tacoma Pro wheel @ 7" and a 4Runner Pro wheel @ 7.5"; difference/recommendation? After watching your information and others, (Outside Mag had an article about "Killin the Tacoma) I'm looking for an "Overland" "broad/wide stance" look but I really don't want to change up performance much. (significant loss of power with larger wheel/tire set-up, mileage, etc.) (I miss my '13 SR5 engine! (less shifting at 75mph)) So here's my question: Best look w/o sacrificing too much performance and NOT dumping a bunch of $$ into the truck to make the wheels/tires work? (minimal off-roading) OK, GO! And Thanks!!!

      Hey thanks man, much appreciated! Regarding the style of Pro wheel I like the 4Runner Pro (the same as this video), mainly because you get a 7.5" width, and they look great as well. The tire size mentioned in this video looks great on a stock Taco and will still fit in the spare tire location. As for performance, this will be very close if not exactly the same as stock. Hope this helps, if you want a more technical look at wheel and tire set ups check out this part 2 video to this one. th-cam.com/video/PqhC34QQCBM/w-d-xo.html

    I just ordered a 21 Tacoma TRD Sport. I REALLY like this wheel and tire combo. However I don't plan to lift or level my truck or do any "heavy off roading". My concern is that if there's rubbing while turning at full angle, than there would be some terrible clipping while turning if my shock is under medium/light compression right? Example... going over over uneven terrain as simple as parking in someone's yard. Would it be logical to try and get a slightly smaller tire for the rim? Like a 265/65? ( I don't know if that exsists, but you get my point ).

    • @squaredawayeveryday
      @squaredawayeveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Logical, yes! With that said, the most logical thing to do is just keep the truck stock. The engineers at Toyota put a lot of R&D into how these trucks should be built. Going off what your plans are for the truck I'd say you'll be good to go with 275/70/17. I know because I've done it on both my Runner and Taco, and probably on harder terrain than the majority of people will ever see. If you're worried, the 265/65 would certainly be a good conservative medium. Hope this helps, lol!

      This is something I should have clarified a little better in the video. I've seen guys running 16 inch wheels on 5th get runners, however you really need to be attentive to offset and backspacing. For most people, the 17 inch wheel is the best option, It also will provide the biggest tire compared to the 16 tire option for stock 4Runners. @@boblafountaine9560 A 275/70/17 (32.16" tire) will fill out the wheel well very nicely in either the Tacoma or 4Runner. Anyone who says they can fit 33's on a stock rig with no rubbing is lying; I can assure you of this. Yes, you will still have minimal rubbing with the 275/70/17 but as mentioned before, this is a cosmetic rub that could be fixed with a Dremel if you so choose. Good luck!

Now I see I can get 275/70/17 and have to go with LT but it's a C load which if im correct is a 6 ply. My question is, Does going with LT change the ride? Should I try to stick with P-metric or Standard load? I love 275's cause alternative is 285 and all the rubbing issues and a higher lift. I wonder if I'm making too much outta "LT", although it is my daily driver and not a huge amount of off road. Sorry for the life story.

      A light truck tire will compliment your truck nicely. Certainly not as shock absorbing as a P or S rated tire, although you can slightly change tire pressure to offset that.

    So I have a stock 2018 Tacoma and want to get some 17" x 8.5" wide wheels with 285x70R17. Will this fit or would it rub ? Again completely stock no lift or spacers.

    • @squaredawayeveryday
      @squaredawayeveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately no, this would not be a functional fit, a 285 on a stock runner or taco is just too big. This will initially fit, however when you find yourself hitting bumps and turning at the same time you'll run into more serious problems.

    Newbie here to tires and lifts/levels. Great video but I’m still slightly confused on rubbing. Just bought a 2021 4runner TRD off-road premium KDSS with upgraded TRD pro wheels as shown in your video. What will 275 tires rub on? Just the front tires rub? Will I need to remove mud flaps? Cuz I don’t! Later on I would want to run bilsteins 5100 shocks all around with the stock springs. Just to level. Around 1.5 to 2” in front and nothing in rear. Any thought on that level set up anyone??? Will probably never go off-road tbh🤔 thanks

      Hey Ken, I'm sure your truck looks great, and I'm stoked for you to get into the off-roading/overlanding thing; however, I would highly caution against doing either until you down size your tires or upgrade your suspension.
      Even though it doesn't seem like it, your problems will start to surface when you begin to turn and hit bumps at the same time. Here's a good way to check if your tolerances before hitting the trail, take off a coil over, fully compress the suspension, and then crank all the way left and right. I can almost promise you that you'll be rubbing your UCA's, frame, or severely rubbing the wheel well. Having run the smaller 275/70/17 set up and tested this myself (both vehicles having excellent alignment) I can assure you this is the biggest you can go on both a 4Runner and Tacoma.
      I hope you don't take this as patronizing or talking down to you, I'm just trying to help you out along with the rest of the Tacoma/4Runner community. Hope this helps, cheers!

      This should work just fine, honestly the 8.5 inches of rim width is a little better fit than a 275 on a 7 inch wide wheel. Do be aware though, you may have a bit more rubbing on the inner shoulders with that increased offset; which means you may or may not need some lite dremel work.

Out of round issues, hard ride from half-life till 50k. They're just way over rated compared to today's modern tire options. Considering the Toyo Open Ctry AT3 for my new '21 TRD OR. It's at the top of my list or the Cooper Disco AT3's. I've had phenomenal results on many sets of those but like the look of the Toyo tread.

It can be done, there are Online Toyota Dealers that never asked any questions and looked the other way. Why not, they are charging an arm and a leg for everything. Close to $ 800 for the Pro Grill, $ 500 plus for the Rigid Industries Fog Lights, $680 Embroidered TRD PRO Headrests, all the correct name plates and badging, black hood decal, and so on. I added the Fox 2.5 Reservoir DSC 3” lift shocks all 4 corners, Nitto Terra Grapplers 285X70 17’s, Icon Delta Joint Upper Control Arms, Katskin black leather interior, etc.
