As a 2023 4Runner owner, I can confidently say that it’s a beast. I have driven it on snowy mountains and on Moab trails, and it’s STOCK! Even though the new one is coming out soon, the one I own has gain my trust tenfold so I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Same here. Girlfriend was skeptical about going to the mountains during a storm, and out of the factory the peace of mind due to its capability is worth it
@@tedrickrumohr1261 Agreed 100% the most I have ever had to do is leak the tires a little to get more traction, but I am running the stock tires that it came with as well!
@@kristopherjazz9295 I just have the SR5 trim. I looked into what the Off Road and TRD Pro version had and most upgrades are just for looks and there are better (and cheaper) options available aftermarket.
I've got both. A 2022 Tacoma SR5 and a 2023 4Runner Off-road Premium. I love both and use them both for different situations. The Tacoma for hauling stuff that is messy or too large for the 4Runner. Use the 4Runner for everyday errands, to the dog park and when the weather is at its worst. The 4Runner goes through anything.
I know you are happy with two of the best Toyota offers. I have a 2018 4Runner and a 2018 Toyota Tacoma off Road. The 4Runner is a TRD PRO. My wife and I love them both.
Damn Chole you forgot about the most important feature of the 4Runner the powered rear window. I love that feature on the 4Runner drop the front windows and hit the rear and let all that stale air out. If you got some pups load them up and let them drool out the rear window. It's whole different feeling with that rear powered window when driving, comes in handy. If my 2008 FJ Cruiser TT had that feature I would be content. If I ever got another vehicle it would definitely be the 4Runner just the fact that everything is inside and accessible.
I just picked up a 24 Pro 4Runner in Underground. I’m upgrading from a 21 SR5 Premium 4Runner. These are the best road trip vehicles I’ve ever owned. Add in the off-road ability and old school Toyota reliability and it’s my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned. Plus you can get Pro’s on the east coast for MSRP or under.
@ Underground is the name of the grey color. It looks dark cement grey, black or purple grey depending on the light. It’s really a nice color. I have several videos of it on my channel.
I bought my 4Runner TRD pro last month, same color, I traded in my 2018 Taco TRD off road. I had a neck fusion (c5 to c7) and the 4 runner is much easier to get in and out of for me. Ive lost a few MPGs, but the overall ride is much smoother. My wife has a 2020 Tundra TRD off road so we still have a truck. I paid 39k for my Taco and got 30.2 k after 6 years. The shorter wheel base is also a plus for the 4Runner.
i swapped my tacoma for the 4 runner... my thoughts, i like it more in every way... except i miss having a full sized bed to carry big stuff. but outside of that, 4runner in every way i like more
I love my 4Runner and you can’t go wrong with getting this last year model. I used to have a 2017 Tacoma myself. Since you showed your love for the back seat, you missed mentioning that they also recline 😊
I have a 2018 tacoma offroad, crawl control, rear locker, etc. My wife just got a 2023 4Runner TRD OffRoad with all the same stuff, crawl control, rear locker, etc. What i will say is the 4Runner has came along way. The #1 I immediately notice and LOVE is the RIDE....smooth as butter...waaaay more enjoyable to drive than my tacoma. One is a Truck, the other is a Soccer Mom vehicle.
I bought a used 2010 Limited 4x4 4Runner a little over a year ago. As soon as I got it I started thinking i should have went with a Tacoma. Shortly after was rear-ended. While she was in the shop I rented a brand new 4x4 Tacoma. I had 2 different Tacomas over the almost 3 months the Runner was in the shop. About 6,500 miles. I no longer have any second thoughts about going with the 4Runner. The Taco's are cool for sure, but 4Runner for the win in my opinion.
Having owned and travelled in/offroaded in 4 Land Cruisers and and an FJC over the past 28 years (owned my 80 series for over 20 years alone) we replaced the 80 with a ‘23 4Runner even with the new Lsnd Cruiser announced. The old school nature of it, the rude quality, the interior space, and most importantly the proven durability of these things is more important to us than extra technology and turbocharged power. The most recent updates in these 5th gen’s have all the modern safety and tech features I could want. From an owning and using a vehicle for 20 years type of stand point there is no other current vehicle in the market I would consider.
2017 SR5 Tacoma owner here. 4 runner has been in my mind for a few weeks now. I really don’t have a need of a bed but it’s great to have IF or when I do need it. But not primarily a necessity. I’m thinking because I’m older I’m thinking I just want a luxury ride in a sense but drive high like a truck. A 4Runner is looking good in that aspect for me.
I bought a new off road premium 4runner, in January. I'm old, (80), so I wanted a vehicle with known, good reliability, as I'm also handicapped. I only drive on regular roads, but love to watch overlanding videos, something I'm unable to now do. My son, has a 30 month old, off road Toyota tacoma, it has 35,000 miles, with just regular services, and no issues. I decided on my vehicle due to the reliability of Toyota's and, also, watching, Lifestyle overland who drives a 4runner with high mileage, over every type of terrain, and a similar size Lexus. People complain about poor gas mileage, I find this strange as, I see most drivers, driving at 80 mph here in the US, on 55 mph roads, while, seemingly, only getting about 10 or 12 miles to the gallon driving off road? I normally drive at the speed limit, or 5 over, I'm averaging 20 mpg since purchse, after 600 miles.
I have both. A 21 Tacoma and a 23 4Runner, huge fan of both and love driving them. It’s definitely hard to choose which one I like better. For sure used for different applications but both have my heart.
I bought a gray TRD Pro 4Runner in 2020... I chose it over the new Land Rover Defender... this was after driving Land Rovers for 20 years... I wouldn't trade it... and, I just bought a 2024 Tundra XP in white... I definitely like the option of having both. I'm definitely a Toyota guy now... looking to trade my wife's vehicle for the new Land Cruiser after its first year.
Last week I traded my 2021 Tacoma TRD OR for a 2024 4Runner TRD OR Premium. I loved my truck but really needed the interior space more than a bed. I haul people more often than I do cargo. So far, I love the improved ride overall. Still getting used to a few things but the transition is easier since both vehicles are laid out similarly. BTW, you’re right about the window switches. Placement is awkward. Keep up the great work. Love your content.
I have a lifted 2021 Tacoma and my mom has a stock 2023 4Runner. Both are trd off-road 4x4 models. I enjoy both of the vehicles and each have their purpose. The 4Runner fits my mom’s needs more than the Tacoma because she is always transporting our dogs and other passengers so the back seat room is great! She also kept it stock because the suspension is very soft and comfortable. I use my truck to transport furniture and other appliances while also off-roading it pretty hard once a month. I also never have passengers in my backseats so the lack of leg room doesn’t cause any issues.
We have both. A 21 TRD off-road Tacoma and a 22 TRD off-road 4Runner. They are both super low mileage and we drive them for a “Sunday drive” occasionally. I love my Tacoma because I have put a lot of sweat and tears into mods and upgrades. But my 4Runner rides and drives so much better than my truck that lags and has gear hunting tendencies. ❤ love the channel
As a Jeep owner of a Wrangler and a Grand Cherokee, I have been looking at the 4Runner for a while and your channel along with this video really has sold me on getting the TRD Pro. I struggle on if I wait to see what the 2025 model may offer or if just make the jump and get a 2024. I was hoping there would be a video of some sneak peeks of the 2025 but, way too early for that. Keep up the great work on here. I look forward to seeing what 2024 brings you as a new vehicle.
I had a 2023 Tacoma TRD Pro that I traded for a 2024 4-Runner TRD Pro. I don’t really have a need to haul items that require a truck bed, except mountain bikes. The bikes wouldn’t fit in the 5’ bed, yet have a Thule, so no big deal. I had previously owned a 2015 4-runner off road with KDSS for eight years. I feel like the Tacoma Pro was more exciting to drive off road and loved the visual on the shocks, yet the wheelbase made parking more difficult. I missed my old 4-Runner as was more practical for my needs. I like the indoor cargo area, instead of buying a bed cover. I like the shorter wheelbase and less shifting on hills. I’m glad I made the switch after 7 months back to the 4-Runner.
Like many here I switched from a 3rd gen taco to a 5th gen 4Runner for the family. Besides loosing the bed the 4Runner has been so much better for family trips. Glad you got a chance to taste the awesomeness of a 4Runner!
No longer my daily driver but I have a 2001 4Runner. They are a great do everything vehicle that last forever and super reliable with proper maintenance.
Great job and enrtertaining. Got a 2021 4Runner and put in a lift to stop the nose dive, etc. plus a pedal commander in case I go to busy cities like Chicago. Love my 4Runner!
I have a Tacoma but we got a 4runner for our family car. The second row is very generous and allows for baby seats comfortably. The more narrow wheel base makes it relatively more capable on the rock crawling without as much of a lift. We also got a KDSS version which is pretty great. It corners like a champ on road and gets crazy good articulation off road.
I purchased a 2022 4Runner and really have no regrets. I wanted a third row, so mine is a Premium. Toyotas quality and reliability sold me. I know it has all the capabilities that I’ll need and confident it will get me where I want go. I did look at the Tacoma’s, but I own a 1999 Chevy Silverado. I just might sell that and get a Tacoma in the future. I’ll have to see how the new remodel does over time regarding the bugs of the new change, especially the four turbo engine. Enjoy your videos!
9:59 exactly my thoughts and why I went with my 4Runner. We’re a family of 4, I’m 6’0 my daughter is 5’9 and we all fit comfortably! The rear seats recline as well so my son and daughter love kicking back while we are on the trail!
17 TRD PRO owner here I have always liked the 4runner but I personally prefer the Camper Shell on the bed which keeps things dry, secure and I can hose it down after a trip to the beach. Maybe some day I will be fortunate enough to own both. Nice review.
I owned the 2018 Tacoma then traded it for a 2021 Tacoma then traded that for a 2022 4Runner which I still own. Love the rear seat legroom so do any of the times I have had passengers versus the Tacoma. I didn't really need a truck bed so this is perfect for me plus the rear seats in the 4Runner also recline if you did not know that. Love them both.
I daily a 4Runner and it’s really good on and off the road. No problems driving on the beach in loose sand and going off road in the mountains. I even get up to 21mpg with KO2 load range E. The all terrain tires does help reduce the body roll and stuff too.
I have both now. I bought a used but super clean 2014 Tacoma SR5. I took my 2 dogs out on an adventure yesterday here in AZ in the 2023 TRD Off Road 4runner. It's so nice and comfortable. The boys enjoy the extra room in the back with seats folded down. I haven't tried out the Tacoma SR5 4x4 yet. I threw on some KM3 muddies on it the other day. So we'll see how that goes. The 4Runner is just much more comfortable so far. Probably my favorite vehicle yet. And you can't beat the reliability.
I own a 23 Taco OR 4x4 in Lunar Rock and we love it! A bit over a year and a half old and we have made so many memories in it already, including some gnarly offroad driving in some exposed, mountain, chunky, steep and desert terrains! Now, just a bit over a week ago, I reserved my lady's 2024 4runner TRD PRO in Terra and we are waiting for it to arrive at the dealer! It's in a vessel right now in the ocean coming from Japan. Just a week more or so. We can't wait! You can't go wrong with either, just get the one best for your needs. Or just get both like me! 🤣
I was up in the air between the two but a 2023 Off Road 4Runner became available at my local dealership at a great price and I picked it up quick. It has been awesome! Only big upgrade so far was the tires. Took it to Moab and the 4Runner killed it and was amazingly capable of anything I asked it to do. I came from a Dodge Dakota with a V8 so I definitely notice a difference in climbing the mountains in CO but the 4Runner does great at higher RPM and just takes getting used to.
Have a 2006 Sport (v8), 2011 Trail and just bought a 2024 Limited. The reliability and simplicity of this car won me over years ago. Yes, these cars are all over the place, but for a good reason - they are dependable and fun to drive.
Just picked up a brand new 4 Runner Off-road Premium in Silver . Coming from a Subaru Forester, I really love the stance, ruggedness and space it offers. I am really enjoying it and feel fortunate to be able to pick one up before the change it to the new model .
i drive a 21 tacoma and yes the thought of getting a 4runner has crossed my mind. if i were to get one id get the last of the mohican, 2024 4 runner v6 and keep it forever.. we have till the end of this year before the legend is lay to, rest..
I recently tried switching from a TRD OR 3rd gen Tacoma to a TRD Pro 4R. I'm now back in a TRD OR Tacoma. I have a utility trailer, so I thought I wouldn't miss the bed. I was wrong. You don't realize how often you just throw shit in the bed that you either dont want inside, or wont fit. The head unit is comically bad. To the point of making the 360 cams nearly useless. It's SUPER picky on tire/wheel balance. Wheel shake is almost a constant at 60. I'm used to bad MPGs, but the 4R is abysmal at all but 60mph flat road. I was getting 12-14 in town. The 6 speed in the Tacoma is a lot smoother than the 5 speed. 4R doesnt like hilly interstate. Dropping into 4th puts the 4R in higher RPM, which isn't ideal for comfort or MPGs. The 5th and 6th OD gearing in Tacoma handles higher speed better. Lastly, for some reason the 4R seems to suffer from heat-soak pretty bad with AC - where the Tacoma is consistently colder. I'm mainly focusing on the negatives of why I ultimately like the Tacoma better, but the 4R is still the best body-on-frame SUV you can buy. I still love the looks of it, and it's super comfortable to drive in most circumstances.
I am sure you know this, but you can also override the adaptive cruise by holding the on bottom in until it shows regular/old fashion cruise on the dash.
THANK YOU for your channel and for your great perspective and impressions. I have my 4Runner TRD on order... again, really APPRECIATE your insights! :)
Get the TRD Off-Road with KDSS (Only trim to be offered KDSS). The TRD Pro exhaust is exhausting (pun intended). If you like to listen to podcasts and audiobooks, they will be hard to hear over the constant rumble of the loud TRD Pro exhaust.
Awesome video, I'm going from 22 Taco Pro to exact 4Runner you reviewed. Glad to see you saw none of the Taco 6AT nonsense on it. IMHO hope you can reach out to Toyota and snag an MSRP-or-better deal on a 24 Taco. There are already 15yrs of 5th gen 4Runner content on TH-cam. You do a great job reviewing/documenting modifications on these and imagine you'll see much better subscriber/revenue opportunities with a 4th gen Taco. It's nice to see mod content from your perspective where you keep daily-driveability in the equation.
Tacoma is better for most people who will want to do activities off the pavement. Because that truck bed will get more use than you can even imagine once you start going off-road or camping or anything rly lol. If you’re pretty much always gonna be on the pavement and occasionally want to take your truck on the beach or something the forerunner is also great but that truck is just so freaking useful for so many different things.
I have a Tacoma because I need the truck bed. That's it. Otherwise the 4Runner makes way more sense as a daily driver. Ride quality and passenger comfort are soooo much better. But the 4Runner is OLD - I would definitely wait for the new one.
The 40, 60, 70 and 80 series LCs are old too but that doesn’t make them worse. Not to mention earlier gen 4Runners are old(er) as well. I would, In fact, argue that older Is BETTER in more ways than not.
@@BoiseTDI I totally understand that opinion. I mostly agree, especially for off-road use. But for a daily driver I'd rather have the new frame, suspension, turbo torque, etc.
I agree with everything you said except I don’t care that the forerunner is old. As a Tacoma owner feel you and I need it, but I really want (the old) forerunner for an every day driver.
Join us on the 4Runner side anytime, Chloe. It never struggles to navigate the trails to Camp Kirkland. It does 70mph in 4Lo like a champ. My garage won't support a lift kit, either. 10:24 they forgot to wave. 10:50 is a nice Nautical Blue. 16:28 3rd Gen says "wassup?". Closing the sunroof cover also helps with road noise.
Just put down a deposit on a 24 4Runner Terra.. been driving a 22 Tacoma Pro. Should be in, in the next week. Wished I lived where you live.. you have to drive hours here in the east coast to find dirt.
Had a 2021 4Runner and now a 2022 Tacoma. For hauling stuff, wife's fishing kayak and her SUP, etc. it's great. Have a high end roll up soft cover for the bed but it leaks in heavy Florida rain no matter how many times you try and seal it up. All my prior pickups with bed covers (soft and hard) all leaked. So for hauling skis, snowboards, luggage, stuff you don't want to get wet on a trip 4 Runner all the way. Probably swap out the 2023 Outback Wilderness for next gen 4Runner and keep the Taco which I love.
Good video showing different options, we have a ’05 Ford F-350, ’21 Toyota 4Runner TRD ORP w/ KDSS, & ’22 Toyota Highlander Platinum AWD, they all have different purpose, especially here in snowy Northern Utah.....
Absolutely love my 5th Gen T4R. Have owned a Tacoma and Tundra as well and currently have 5 vehicles in my garage. The 4Runner is the only vehicle I will never part with.
I own a 2016 Black 4Runner Premium 2WD with all the chrome badging and I love it. I only have 62,550 miles on it. What sold me on the 4Runner to begin with for over 25 years is the roll down back window. Growing up my parents owned a 1980 Jeep Cherokee Chief and the back window rolled down. I always thought that was the frickin coolest thing ever, so when I finally restored my credit and was making really good money I jumped head first and bought a brand new 4Runner in 2016. I have been thinking lately of trading it in on a brand new 2024 4Runner either a Limited, TRD Off-Road Premium and it will be a 4X4 this time. Figured I better get it now before they switch to turbo 4-cyl.
I have an 04 v8 4runner and a 22 taco TRD of and the 4runner hands down is the better vehicle for hunting/fishing. I love that everything is locked and safe from the elements. My basket on the back makes up for not having a bed
I was fixed on buying a Tacoma, to replace my 2000 GMC Sierra. I test drove a Tacoma 3 different times just to make sure, and after test driving a 4Runner, I was sold on the 4runner for the comfort and the space. I am totally content with my 2023 TD Premium Off Road 4Runner.
I had a 2008 Tacoma, so it has the same powertrain as the current 4Runner (except for the VVT-i aspect). In 2017, I traded into a new 4Runner and never looked back. There is
Put a shell (snug top) on my Mint 1st Gen 97 tacoma & took it back after 1 day. The squeaks & rattles were unbelievable from the shell. Tacoma now has a soft topper, far superior for my needs Bought a 2024 4runner OR premium $3,000 under MSRP, it will increase in value like my tacoma. 4Runners are the best of both worlds & the 3rd-5th gen's will keep going up. Vehicles are your worst investment however certain vehicles will always hold a high value & continue to shine in all their glory.
I traded my 2010 Tacoma (which I bought brand new off the lot in 09) several years ago for an 07 4Runner Sport, as I needed the room for my grandchildren when they visit. I loved it. Recently I purchased my “ retirement” vehicle. It was a difficult decision choosing between a Taco and a 4Runner. In the end, I decided on a 4Runner. Given the grandkids and our retirement plans of an I-81 and Route 66 tour, that tipped the scales. Also, I ended up getting an 02 Taco so that figured in as well. Can’t go wrong with either.
My buddy has a 4Runner and it’s comfortable, and very off road capable! I really like it, however I’d probably buy a Tacoma, especially a 24 with the coil sprung rear end. The down side to the 4Runner is carrying capacity. For a day trip we bring a medium sized cooler, his recovery kit, a couple of totes of hunting gear, pew pews, and a couple small duffel bags of clothes for the weather. That fills the back space up. To get to stuff you are shifting things around and it’s kind of a pain. If there is a third person it’s even more packed. If we are camping we bring my truck because we pack more stuff. Yes, we can fold the back seats down in the 4 Runner, but it just gets tight. With a Tacoma that stuff would lay out in the bed and be easier to access . You can have the same system as you have in your Tacoma with recovery gear, air pumps, first aid kits. Then set your cooler, totes of gear on the top. Or, you could get a shell, or a flat bed cover. There are more options for the truck. I know you can get a roof rack, but those might limit your ability to park in the garage, or go through car washes. It’s great to have choices because both of these vehicles are outstanding and offer fantastic off road capabilities right off the dealership floor. (You may have to upgrade the stock tires to something better suited for off roading depending on the package you purchased.)
My wife has a 22 4Runner Pro (lime green). I have a 23 Tacoma Pro. I had a 19 Tacoma (Off Road) - I put 249,000 trouble free miles on that truck- many of those miles in 4WD. My wife (of 31 years) has been a stay at home wife/ mom and when our last (of 3) kid left for college, she wanted a smaller vehicle. She’s had full size vehicles over the years like Suburbans/Yukon XLs, high top conversion vans. We got her the 4Runner. We own a horse farm and both the 4Runner and Tacoma do wonderfully on our trails and pastures. I find both vehicles comfortable on/ off road. However the 4Runner is more comfortable on longer trips. If I had to pick one - and I didn’t need a truck- the 4Runner is the best choice under 100k.
I have a 2020 Tacoma long bed because I haul my kayak in it. Otherwise I would drive a Rav 4, which is smaller than the Forerunner. My Tacoma is a two person truck (service cab, no back seat). As a retired man, I have no need for the bigger Forerunner. I could roof carry the kayak but I am older and loading/unloading the kayak to the roof of the vehicle is a bit much for me.
I bought my 2016 Tacoma TRD OR LB (Inferno) new and drove it for 8y 3m and never had a single problem. In January I bought a new 2024 TRD ORP 4Runner (Solar Octane). I traded the Tacoma (I got 26k in trade and paid 36k for it new) because I'd rather have a used 5.7L Tundra for hauling. The 4Runner is much more comfortable to drive and infinitely easer to park. The view in the 4Runner is much better- way more glass and visibility. As much as I loved my Tacoma, I won't be going back!!!
The deciding factor for me was price. To get 4WD and Locking rear diffs, the Tacoma was a little less than 4runner. The 4runner made more sense for me (shorter wheelbase, enclosed storage, better ride, bigger back seats) but I got the Tacoma TRD off road. Still loving it and don't regret it btw. I do think 4Runner makes a great complement to a taco if you already have one.
Fun comparison review! Well done! I will be very disappointed if their redesigns include a smaller turbo engine. These NA V6s (and their transmissions) can last nearly 4ever... 👍
I’ve been driving Toyota trucks for 19 years now. 4 in total, , 2 Tundra's and 2 Tacomas. That all ended when I bought my 2024 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium last month. For a daily driver far superior to the Tacoma or Tundra for me. Less power obviously to the Tundra but better than the Tacoma. Off road so far even on the stock tires it is better than my old 2019 Tacoma Off Road that had KO2’s. I’m slow rolling on mods to the new 4Runner but a lift, new wheels and 285’s are in order. For my needs this 4Runner purchase was long overdue. Come on Chloe join the club!!!
I like the ability to sleep in the 4Runner without going outside to get into the bed of a truck or rooftop tent… the backseats I’d take out to do a build out for overland…
I owned a 2017 4Runner and Tacoma. I prefer the 4Runner. I didn't have a use for the bed of the Taco and the 4Runner is the best stealth camping vehicle IMO. Now I own a 2020 T4R SR5. A-trac is amazing if you ever get stuck. For cruise control, and I only found this out recently, if you press and hold the cruise button it changes from adaptive cc to regular non-adaptive cc. I found the seating position in the T4R to be much more adjustable and comfortable. Like you said, it depends on the user and the use case. for me, 100% T4R. If you decide to get a 4Runner you should get an SR5 and do the suspension upgrades yourself (good content). You don't need all those off-road driver assist features, you know what you're doing. Cheers!
Traded my 2014 trd off road Tacoma for 2022 trd orp 4 runner because I needed more room for my two little ones. I’ve always had a truck so it felt a bit weird. I loved my Tacoma and absolutely love my 4 runner.
I just picked up a week ago a 24 4Runner ORP Solar Octane, traded my 2020 Tacoma OR for it, I wanted 5th gen before it was gone, I agree with you , I love the 4Runner ,Tacoma was great but I got where I needed more space inside
I have a Tacoma and a 4Runner and love them both. I use them for different things. The 4runner is more refined. For daily driving the 4runner has become my go to vehicle and the Tacoma is used for hauling stuff and going fishing etc. I'd hate to have to choose only one!
I just switched from a 21 LR TRD Pro Tacoma to a 24 Underground TRD Pro and I'm not looking back. Wish the Gen 3 had the same drive train as the 4Runner.
I had a 2017 4Runner, now I have a 2023 Tacoma. I like them both. The Tacoma benifits a lot with a gear change. The problem with the Tacoma transmission is that the 1st through 5th gears are the same ratio as what the 4Runner has, the 6th gear is an additional overdrive that is basically a 50 percent overdrive. That is useless and is only meant to squeeze a little more fuel economy out of the engine. Re-gearing changes everything. It's hard to beat the utility of a pickup. I now have an older Land Cruiser as the family hauler and it's better overall over the 4Runner...
Unless you need a truck bed often, I'd recommend the 4Runner over a Tacoma every time. I went from a '14 Tacoma SR5 to a '21 4Runner ORP and have absolutely zero regrets. Interior is larger, ride is comfier, and a sealed trunk in 95% of (my) use cases is way handier. I've hauled everything from my 2 dogs in the trunk with the window open all the way to couches with the back seats folded down.
Such a coincidence that I bumped into this video. Im currently going back and forth with the same dilemma as well. I currently own a 23 Tacoma TRD Pro in Solar Octane, but im just in love with the 4Runner. I got offered a 24 4Runner TRD Pro in the same Terra color in the video, with a nearly $3000 reduction in MSRP. I just got my Tacoma a couple months ago, but its seems like an offer that is hard to avoid. I recently spoke to the salesman today verifying that the offer is still available. The vehicle wont be available til next month, so it gives me time to sell my Tacoma. I just cant get ripped off anymore with trade in's, especially as a title holder, and a truck in high demand.
I have both and there are many differences which many have talked about. The shorter wheel base to me makes the Tacoma better in the snow if you live in such an area.
I had a 2021 silver TRD OR Tacoma until a few days ago and picked up a 2024 underground TRD OR Premium 4Runner. I loved my Tacoma and the other 3 Tacomas before that. Was going to get a 4th gen Tacoma but the monthly payment and down payment were ridiculous. I love the 4Runner but I’ve barely driven it. The OR Premium comes with crappy tires.
As a 2023 4Runner owner, I can confidently say that it’s a beast. I have driven it on snowy mountains and on Moab trails, and it’s STOCK! Even though the new one is coming out soon, the one I own has gain my trust tenfold so I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Great review and I am going to buy A 4RunnerTRD Pro in 2024! Currently still driving my 2017 Tacoma!
What trim level do you have
@@kristopherjazz9295 I just have the SR5 trim.
You should get a TUndra and a Rav 4. That way you can have 4 Toyotas.
VERY CHILDISH TO HAVE TO START OUT A COMMENT WITH A CURSE WORD!!!

Chloe I just bought a 2024 4WD SR5 4Runner 3days ago. I LOVE it. Enjoy your channel !
Congrats on your new 4Runner!
Thank You ,Chloe. Also my Granddaughter is a Chloe.
I keep seeing many videos and people claiming to have got a 4runner “in underground” - what does that mean
@ Underground is the name of the grey color. It looks dark cement grey, black or purple grey depending on the light. It’s really a nice color. I have several videos of it on my channel.
@ OHHH what a neat name for gun metal grey
@ no metallic in it. That’s one of the best parts of it.
Crazy dude…I maybe looking at the same surgery….and going with a TRD pro…
That’s weird my 4Runner gets better than my Tacoma did
When it’s in the garage and out in the desert , color is completely different . interesting 😮
i swapped my tacoma for the 4 runner... my thoughts, i like it more in every way... except i miss having a full sized bed to carry big stuff. but outside of that, 4runner in every way i like more
I went from the Tundra CM to the 4R. I do miss having a bed but that’s what my Cybertruck is going to be for haha
IMHO that's the best gen. In manual
I’ve always considered swapping into a 4Runner. This is a great video
Hey Chloe...great review !!! That’s definitely a tough decision between the two. For you, I think should have both in your garage.
I got the exact same 4runner TRDP in terra. Loving it so far, and coming from 2 prior tacomas
How do you like Terra? I’m about to purchase one.
I just bought the 2024 underground trd off road premium and I love it!
Congrats, just got the same last week. We are so lucky😊
Just picked up new 4Runner TRD Pro Terra and drove it 3k miles cross-country …and ❤❤
i drive a 21 tacoma and yes the thought of getting a 4runner has crossed my mind. if i were to get one id get the last of the mohican, 2024 4 runner v6 and keep it forever.. we have till the end of this year before the legend is lay to, rest..
Thanks for the cruise control tip. I’m sick of my 4Runner hitting the brakes a mile away from another car.
I am sure you know this, but you can also override the adaptive cruise by holding the on bottom in until it shows regular/old fashion cruise on the dash.
I have a 2019 4runner ORP. Got a few upgrades on it and I absolutely love it. That Terra color looks awesome.
2023 4Runner off road owner I love the vehicle I choose the 4Runner cause it’s Made in Japan and because of the V6 engine
Love my 23 TRD Pro, incredible machine 🥰
@@donovanchilton5817I want a 70 series diesel Troopy but they are spendy for a good one! Lol like 30k euros. 😮
I agree with everything you said except I don’t care that the forerunner is old. As a Tacoma owner feel you and I need it, but I really want (the old) forerunner for an every day driver.
Same thing. Need the truck. Have a Tacoma TRD PRO and would love a 4Runner TRD PRO but…. Work calls for the truck bed.
That 4Runner color is beautiful. I got a 2023 4Runner last year and I love it!
I like your reviews, I did them very informative. I bought a 23 Tacoma TRD offroad. Your videos about accessories are great!
Lovin the shout-out to us, over-worked & under-paid poolguys!
7:27 Now that truck bed drawer is indeed a game changer.
Nice job just bought a 4-Runner TRD Pro / Underground color pick up in a few weeks will replace roof rack & add ladder keep up the great work
I was fixed on buying a Tacoma, to replace my 2000 GMC Sierra.
Love this and the color is so nice!
Love that color! Nice ride!
4Runner every day of the week and twice on Sundays. It is your color too! You go Chloe!
I had a 4Runner, and now have Tacoma. I do miss the 4Runner and may have another someday.
2013 Jeep JKU 4" lift 35 Mickeys.... 2023 SR5 4RUNNER... Plan to upgrade a lot on the 4 RUNNER this year.
I love my 2024 4Runner....it is awesome!!!!
Hold off for a 2024 Tacoma. Even if it's the hybrid. I think you'll have more to talk about. Great channel btw!
I have 2023 lime rush 4Runner TRD Off Road w/ 33” Black Rhino wheels! Love it!
I just picked up a week ago a 24 4Runner ORP Solar Octane, traded my 2020 Tacoma OR for it, I wanted 5th gen before it was gone, I agree with you , I love the 4Runner ,Tacoma was great but I got where I needed more space inside
Oh wow. The new design on the volvo t5 wagon in red is awesome. It’s looks great on road
I have a Tacoma and a 4Runner and love them both. I use them for different things. The 4runner is more refined. For daily driving the 4runner has become my go to vehicle and the Tacoma is used for hauling stuff and going fishing etc. I'd hate to have to choose only one!
I have a 2016 SR5 4Runner. I love it. My husband has a 2001 Tacoma.
I just switched from a 21 LR TRD Pro Tacoma to a 24 Underground TRD Pro and I'm not looking back. Wish the Gen 3 had the same drive train as the 4Runner.
Now that you have the 2024 Taco, how’s it compare to the gen5 4R?
I have both. Limited 4Runner and TRD Sport Tacoma. I prefer the 4Runner for the daily commute and the Tacoma for carrying things
I have both and there are many differences which many have talked about. The shorter wheel base to me makes the Tacoma better in the snow if you live in such an area.
One thing I like about the 4 runner is having a lot more lockable cargo space.
Nope. My short bed taco covered by diamondback had much more lockable space.
The V8 option back in the day was awesome in the 4Runner.
Great side by side comparison & breakdown. Love your channel!
I have the taco cause of the bed, but i do LOVE a 4Runner! If I could have 2 vehicles I’d have one of each!
