    I have just spent the last hour looking at terrible breakfast burrito videos. Then I found this one.
    Straight up, The Best!

    I used to make breakfast burritos very close to this recipe for the SEALS that were on my ship. I'd make about 30, 2 burritos for each team member. Only difference is that I made guac w/ the avocado instead of just using the meat. And for the guys that weren't too keen on chorizo i used breakfast sausage. Wrap them up in parchment and then in aluminum foil to keep them soft and hot. The guys would load these bad boys into their utility pockets and they had a quick meal or two while out on training missions. I took care of the other 2700 sailors and Marines on my ship, my SEALS gratefully appreciated it.

    • @ChefJackOvens
      @ChefJackOvens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Much respect to you! They sound awesome. I didn’t use guacamole as they won’t last the full 5 days of so due to the moisture but guac or pico would be delicious 🙏

    • @terrymyers699
      @terrymyers699 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ChefJackOvens Thank you! Oh yes, I totally see not using guac if thetes going to be anything over a day kept in the fridge over 12 hours let alone 5 days. But I guarantee you that the burritos I made had a "shelf life" of less than 30 minutes. lol. Being a Navy cook was the beginning of a 30-year culinary journey as a chef. I medically retired 6 years ago and really miss being in the galley. I'm proud of the food I've made for my sailors, Marines, and troops. Not taking anything away from the thousands of other people I've cooked for over the years. But my brothers are special to me.

    Good bits:
    -Very tasty burritos fresh.
    -Putting them under the broiler is the best way to reheat.
    Bits that could’ve been better:
    -I thought I had sour cream, but I didn’t. Still good burritos otherwise.
    -I could’ve gotten either larger burritos or made more with the smaller ones I did buy. Which leads into my 3rd field:
    Straight up bad idea:
    -Making these in a coffee-fueled rampage at midnight when you haven’t eaten in 7 hours (I normally fast overnight). I couldn’t possibly eat all of them, but the thought crossed my mind.

    These look great but i would skip the sour cream and just scoop some into a small boel to use as dipping sauce. Since these go into the microwave that makes the sour hot and i don't like hot sour cream.

      LOL!
      I worked in restaurants for decades. Almost every conversation about food prep devolved into innuendo.
      My favorite was a base we made for Fruit Compotes, basically Simple Syrup which we thickened with Corn Starch.
      It was made in a large Steam Kettle, and more than a few times, a Waitress would walk by while I added the Corn Starch.
      Waitress - OOOH, what's that?
      Me - What does it look like?

    Nice to see a great breakfast burrito recipe that doesn't include black beans. I make my home fries (for my burritos) with a couple of Indian spices -- Tandoori Masala & Achar Gosht (along with celery salt, pepper, onion/garlic powder, & bit of cayenne). Your video made me think of Tyler Flroence's advice on how practice flipping food in the pan -- "Practice at someone eles's house" (lol)

      It’s a pleasure! It really depends on if you’re going to eat them everyday. I’d recommend freezing them if you know you’re not going to eat them all within 3 days. Even though they will last up to 5 days, they Will degrade and definitely won’t be as good.

    Does anyone have any recommendations for good store bought tortillas that aren’t thick/stiff? Something that’s similar to Chipotle or any restaurant tortillas. It doesn’t need to be exact, but something that isn’t those bulky Mission tortillas.

    How to keep the avacados from turning brown in the fridge?

    • @ChefJackOvens
      @ChefJackOvens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will start to oxidise over time but with this covered in the tortilla it will prevent it from turning brown quickly.

    I noticed a bit of raspiness in your voice, Jack. Then I read about you having Covid. Glad it didn't last long and that you are on the mend. I have all the makings for this recipe and will give it a go. The wrapping part is soooo intimidating.😱

    did your loaded potato bite prep. Biggest disappointment was scaling it down to only 2 serves. Should have done more.
    I'll have to try this one out, for sure...
    And doing a video whilst sick, instead of just putting up a post saying no video today....what a mensch.

    Another great hit from your favourite chef, 'Ten Crack Jack' (Screams from the crowd, ladies fainting, strong men clawing at their bellies). I left out the avacado cos it's the fruit of the devil. Almost as bad as pineapple on pizza (but not quite).

      The avocado will always start to oxidise overtime no matter what you do but because this is wrapped tightly it will last the period of storage.
