    You can get your cam chain done while it's on axle stands as I've got a long wheelbase van myself and my cam chain stuff made you doing Ann Madani then ordinary garage on ramps that's all they do we can use axle stands

    I feel your pain. Just after I got my MK7 transit, it blew a fuel line on the engine, just as I'd got to the Scottish Highlands 550 miles from home.......luckily it happended in a town with an 'old bloke' type garage who could fix anything. That got me through the rest of the trip and back home. When I got back I replaced ALL the fuel lines on the engine. Not gonna get me a second time !

    Hi Shaun, that was a bummer of a day for you all,
    I'm half way through my conversion, exact same van, wondering if you are aware that there is a recall on the timing belt. I had my inspection a couple of days ago and yes it needs replacing, problem is Ford haven't released the replacement parts and a waiting list as long as your arm!. You might have some grounds for replacement if that is your problem. Stay positive, enjoying the build :)

    I went brand new Magnetic grey 10 speed Auto, 5 years unlimited..Only as built out you can't lose, looking at 10 year old vans with a reasonable build out and say 150,000 k they are very pricey.. And I was in a position to afford it, and will fit it out, plus know it's history from scratch....But as you said major Prob is you need a mechanic with the hoist that can do services and such, my trusted one doesn't have the hoist height for one, so I will have to research one who can accomodate for the size and height, for services as well as way down the track if it needs major work....I would recommend anyone buying a used van, to get a good mechanic to go right over a van before a build out...AND remember if you build a van out well, you will not lose money if you do it right...Your van is done right, it will hold value for 7 years, probably sell it for more than it cost and the build combined in say over 4 years...It isn't a car that devalues, Vans done well hold value exceptionally well..

    Ah mate feel your pain, our transit decided to blow a turbo intercooler hose, at 9pm at night the AA didn't arrive till 4am. Our van is pre conversation so it wasn't as comfortable. We got dropped at a services and then had to wait till 10am next morning for another truck. I was hanging.

    So sorry to hear that, unfortunately if the red oil light came on its not good. If you shut of the engine immediately there could be a chance to save the engine.

      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much stopped straight away as it cut out and the oil light came on. The as checked the oil and there was plenty in there and no swarth so I’m hoping it’s just a pump
      Or something

  • @Namdor2012
    @Namdor2012 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of these three I would say..I think it maybe the oil pump, but fingers crossed it maybe just a sensor..1:A faulty oil pressure sensor: the oil pressure sensor may be damaged, dirty or unplugged.
    2: A bad oil pump: the oil pump may not be pumping the amount of oil it should. In this case, it should be replaced.
    3:Worn-out piston rings: if these rings are worn-out, there will be excessive oil consumption which may be accompanied by white or gray smoke. Worn-out piston rings may also be identified by the slow acceleration of your Transit Custom.

    Hi Shaun, just watched your video with the oil light, I have a transit Custom same year(not sure if the engine is the same) I blew 2 turbos on mine at £1700 a pop🤦🏻‍♂️These engine are famous for burning oil. So the oil level may drop a little, and the turbo is first to go if starved of oil. What I now do is check the oil level religiously every Sunday morning befor it’s used And always keep oil in the van. 👍🏼
    Oil in the van.

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the advice mate. It’s a 2.2. I normally check the oil before a longish journey and the level is still fine as it’s the first thing the AA checked but who knows

  • @sheogorathboon8256

    Know the feeling being broken down in a layby :(
    Turbo blew on my van in the dead of night so I pulled into a layby and whilst I waited for the recovery truck someone had opened the back doors of the van to peek inside and pinch anything they could find (rotten scumbags) I didn't hear them do this ! the recovery truck driver asked why the back was open, dumped me off in the motorway services and waited even longer to be taken home awake over 36 hours 0.o
    few days after I repaired my van (I'm a mechanic) so happy days :) just not an experience I want again.
    Glad you all made it back safe 'n' sound though :)

    Oh nooooo! A tip for you, find a garage that services trucks and commercial vehicles as they will be able to work on your van. Btw, I still think you could raise enough money by raffling off your old van. Good luck with the repairs and like someone else said, get a fault code reader, that way you at least have an idea of what the issue is.

  • @grahamsmith4869
    @grahamsmith4869 ปีที่แล้ว

    I hope it isn't but I know the 2.2 ford rangers have loads of issues with bad oil pumps I believe it's the same engine 🤞 yours will be something simple

  • @tomwinch9107
    @tomwinch9107 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hopefully the symptoms you described 'engine cut out then the oil light came on' are a sign of an issue with the battery not the oil pump ... if there were no odd noises and the light came on after the engine stopped (assuming it's a mechanical oil pump, the pressure will drop when the engine is off!) then the engine should be fine
    Well worth getting it checked out though
    The 'AA Relay' sounds like a race ... In reality each leg is quite short as breakdown trucks have tachographs and need to follow the driver's hours rules, so you get to 'rest' at different services stations along the way!
    Back in 2018 I drove for 3 hours from the Surrey / Hampshire border down the M3, A303, M5, A30 and got as far as Indian Queens - then the engine sized taking the gearbox with it ... the AA confirmed that it hadn't run out of oil at there was oil splashed under the car and on the rear window! They towed us to the McDonald's / Services next to the A30 (I think it's Indian Queens services) to wait for the first leg of the relay ... we decided not to carry on to our destination - spending the Easter weekend stuck in a cottage in a Village with limited busses and failing to visit my mother (she was in Hayle Hospital waiting for a hip operation, so we'd only see her at visiting times anyway), then struggling to get home didn't sound like a good plan!
    I think 4 winds must have the AA's contract for that stretch of the A30 as the name's familiar - the first leg got us to Exeter services and onto an AA lorry after a short wait (had to give the dog a walk at each change over - he stayed in the boot and was not amused by the noise / angle at each transfer!) ... eventually got home after 2am (over 9 hours coming back)
    Glad you got home safe (eventually) - hope you didn't wake Charlie getting in so late! (or wake Kate, pretty stressful day for her too - I mean IKEA shopping is knackering!) ;-)

  • @anniemac3075
    @anniemac3075 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ah Shaun, bummer!
    Great to see so many bugs on the windscreen, lots of bugs down south in that case as lot of concern in the UK about lack of insect life including cleaner windscreens than you'd expect.
    Baby's looking so beautiful, nice to see his little face again.

  • @155stw

    When you get back home just check the battery voltage. Get a battery charger and put it on. It’s possible that the alternator went out and the battery was about to fail anyway. Make sure you have a voltmeter. When running the voltmeter should show at least 13.5V. Also maybe it’s a good idea to get a code reader which can read the codes from your van. Best of luck Shaun - The Malaysian Emmet

    Mate, I am a mechanic and work on lots of transits, 9 times out of 10 oil light will come on due to oil pump failure, if you managed to switch off engine ASAP a new oil pump can be all it will need, sometimes turbo can be damaged if your unlucky, but not always, is it a 2.2? Front wheel drive with plastic sump, if so very easy to change pump make a good video, good luck

    What a bummer mate. Sorry you drew a short straw with your Transit but such is the nature of used vehicles no matter how much you pay for them. I gave my Transit a good 700+ mile workout the week I bought it going up country and last week spent the week touring the coast of Brittany. Our trip ended better than yours however halfway through the "service brake pads" warning came on then a rear indicator started reacting to whenever I put my foot on the brake. I sorted that out as found a dodgy (corroded) earth. Hopefully yours will be a minor niggle too, fingers crossed for you.

    And I just thought it was me.... My Vivaro died... I replaced it with a Berlingo van for work, which died two weeks ago... DPF... around town kills diesel vans apparently... Anyway four hr wait for the AA... Confirms it's bottom end damage... I transfer all my window cleaning gear to my wife's C4... Yesterday the battery was dead on the van... No central locking... And as all the locks were seized... Hammer through the window... Today just finished fitting the C4 out... My mark 7 Camper, seems to be OK... But I'm just waiting for some other major mechanical failure 😂... So your vlog actually made me feel less fed up.... Perhaps is a Cornish thing 😊.... Nos Dha from St Austell...... That's worrying, after 2015 Ford fitted an uprated oil pump on the 2.2 engine. I watched one of you later vlogs, hopefully you get it all sorted soon, take care mate 🤞

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea I stayed clear of the 2.2 because of the wet belt. But like anything when you buy used you take the risk no matter what engine it is

    Just wondering do you know of any cheap lodges down in Cornwall new message to desperate to have a holiday for Thursday Friday, Saturday Sunday. Haven’t been to Cornwall for a long time and I do miss it a lot. If you can let me know any places I can pay I haven’t got a van

      "Priority" does not mean "quick".
      It means "quicker"!
      You still have to wait for a patrol/recovery driver to get to you. They might have a two hour drive when they finish the job they are on.

    I’d change from AA if I were you. Try green flag, much cheaper but imo better. RAC are better than AA. I was with them for 30 years and change only because of cost

    Bad news my flip flop mate ☹️ Is the van out of warranty ? Mine was only 3 months but opted for an extended 12 month one , not sure how good the extended warranty’s are ? There seems to be an abundance of small print 👀 Good luck anyway pal 👍 If ever you’re up on the Isle of Skye give me a shout 🐑🐄🐏☔️

    • @LoveSundays
      @LoveSundays  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Warranty normally isn’t worth the paper it’s written on tbh. I paid for an extended warranty on my Ford kuga and when the water pump went no garage wanted to do the work because the RAC warranty wouldn’t pay out in time so the all garages I went to said sorry we only have to do 2 warranty claims a month so we can’t do it for 6 months. I ended up just paying for it and then tried to claim it but RAC refused to reimburse me

      It doesn’t matter what van you buy unless you’re buying a brand new van there will always be something wrong with it at some point. I went for a transit because they’re a lot cheaper than a sprinter and you can fit a bed length ways without needing flares

      @@LoveSundays when you first got it , the stickers stuck on the plywood inside . Look back at your first video ! Obviously everything is fixable but the cost of a new engine is questionable !…. Plus , I’ve a good idea where the van came from cos I’m in Yorkshire not many miles away from where you got it … ex parcel delivery vans have not had a easy life . I’d stick with your vivaro/ trafic if I was you and get out while you can… Al from 6D diesels in Dorset ( TH-cam) will back me up on the reliability of said transit…. I really do hope it’s a cheap fix because I love your channel … it’s just not the most ideal van to choose👍
