- Our First outing in our newly converted camper van didn't go as planned. we had a power cut on the first night so we had to improvise. However This did not stop us from having fun.

They don't make them for the Mk1 Vivaro. Such a shame.
Can't see a reason why, just looked at the van and it would work.
If they made to order and charged accordingly, they wouldn't have to worry about stock holding if that is their issue.

Noisy, inconsiderate neighbors are the worst part of camping in my experience (especially late at night or early in the morning). Last year our neighbors' unattended kids were blowing an air horn late at night in their tent. The adults were all getting drunk in their RV (I think you all call it a "Caravan") and didn't notice the other campers yelling at their kids to stop until someone knocked on their door. By the way, Charlie is so cute! It's good you all are getting him used to camping now; he will be a pro in a few years! Loved the extended family camping footage too.

About “the mess” … over time you’ll explore storage for food, toys, baby stuff, etc… spaces under the front seats or in the footwell, hammocks behind the chairs that you can flip to the front seats when you’re in the van , adequate shelving / containers for your garage area that can be adapted for bulky things like a paddle board or pram and storage for smaller containers. You’ll get there.

Love hendra as a park always go there as so clean and tidy. With a proper awning it would be ideal as you could keep all your clutter in there and sleep with door open if connected to the van. 🎉
Lol bed time at 730 and Charlie is wide awake. I remember it all so well with my kids.
I have a transporter and I occasionally take a friend with me who sleeps in the poptop and Honestly it stresses me out! It works for me when I am on my own.. If I had a family I would definitely have a caravan.

Shaun what a great video loved it and it looked so much fun you playing on the water slide was great lol you can do that when you have kids with you, but can i make a suggestion please put some windows in the van it felt dark and you having to put the lights on during the day come on.!!! We love natural light in the van. Even is you put some in the back doors and the sliding door. Would make a massive difference. Great video thanks for posting see you next Sunday. Stay safe. Glad you had a good time and the window vents look good. They would also be useful if you had a dog in the car/van to give ventilation. I was actually not thinking of leaving a dog in a car, but having ventilation whilst driving if the weather is hot instead of opening windows to get some air to back seat and dog.

Every day is a school day and we learn from our experiences. As you say you had a successful holiday and both you and your family were safe and you had backup plans.
I always have at least one torch and a small camping stove and gas as a fall back. Definitely a good idea to have a basic toolkit to keep in your van with a few spare fuses.
Your van is coming along nicely and will provide you and your family with lots of memorable trips away.

i regret buying one of these, 1200 for wet belt, week later rear diff went been quoted 4k for new one. search for old now! 80% done with conversion, really wish i got a mk7!
Charlie is definitely the star of the show.
Having no tools, no spare fuses etc is a bit of a rookie mistake.
Inevitably something will go wrong and its how you deal with it that matters.
All fridges uses a lot lot more power when the weather is warm...it helps if you have good ventilation.. you should add more ventilation for the fridge?

IMO it's not a true vaca without something going wrong. You have a comfy cozy setup for the fam and the inaugural family van trip seems like a huge success overall. Hearing Charley babble is just too sweet. 🙂
Great vid, as usual. Each to their own and all that, but def not my kind of campsite. I prefer less than 100 pitches, nearer to 50 max usually. But glad you still had a good time even though no power. Charlie is coming along nicely, he's a 'gobby little man'

I know what you mean about people playing loud music. We are currently camped at the #StoneValley festival and someone about ten vans away is playing their music really loud and have been doing so since 09:00, not only that he's also got a Saxomophone and it's playing along. 🎷

Your battery is fully charged at 13.49v and in Float mode. The panels are working as well, showing 36.6v. The BMS in the battery won't let anymore charge into the battery as it doesn't need it. You need to look elsewhere for the problem.
Any ideas where to look as I’ve tried everything and it’s still not charging the battery?
@LoveSundays The battery doesn't need any more charge as its full. I'd be checking voltage at the entry to the fuse box, make sure you have the 13.5v there. Then check the out feed from the fuse box to see if there's 13.5v there.
Just watched the end. Is the shunt showing charge now when you use the battery..?
@PK_Blinder once I’d recharged the battery to 100% I resynchronised the shunt to the battery to show 100% charge. I then test the battery but having the fridge running and fan on lights etc and the shunt showed power went down to 53% then it went flat again. There has been no point where the solar has shown any Watts. I’ve tested all the cables on the solar they all show voltage but not amps.
That for a shakedown trip went really well, glad you guys had a great time

I think it went well even with the solar. Maybe for now set up a cot in the tent area until you figure something out. That’s if it’s uncomfortable. Just a suggestion. Consider the trip a success. You found out what needs to be done. Your wife did say she liked the van. Bravo! Charlie is such a sweet baby.💜

Fully agree mate I hate anti social campers, I would be getting shifted if it carried on. We went camping one year with a new born and we're stuck on the field with folks kicking a ball at the tent till gone 11pm!!

if your victron app says float, the battery is fully charged and the app throttles and wont show watts until their is a charge flowing.
bulk showing means charging
Even when it’s on bull it doesn’t charge the battery and no watts showing though
I really enjoyed this video. I think it takes a few trips to work out all the kinks in a home built van to get it right. Their always a work in progress.
All in all it seems like the family had a good time. Did you have air conditioning or heat installed?

Hey mate, unsure if you were aware but the solar won’t pull in Watts in until it is approx 5-6 volts above operating. Mine is usually around 18 volts showing before it will then put watts in 👍
Right ok that’s good to know but how to I get the bolts up? I’ve had it on during some of the sunniest days and it still hasn’t generated any
@@LoveSundays sorry, without being there I’m pretty useless and only worked stuff out after I’ve tried and failed with my own system. A mistake I did make also was that in the settings I had put the smartshunt reading to be shared with the solar charger and the app only read the battery voltage via the smart shunt rather than the solar voltage. I hope that makes sense! Hope you get it sorted soon mate.
The Victron MPPT will show 0w when the battery is fully charged and you aren’t drawing any current. In the video, it shows “float” which means the battery is fully charged.
But the battery wasn’t fully charged. So maybe the shunt is at fault 🤔. Since this video the MPPT has been showing bull but it still isn’t charging the battery
@@LoveSundays I saw that at the end. It does explain more towards your issue though. Solar thought it was charged. I don’t have the shunt in my system, but my van is smaller, I only have a ac charger and the solar from Victron, my dc-dc is a red arc unit, although considering a swap to victron for that before switching from an agm battery to lithium.
I have a small generic inverter connected, but hardly use ac and even then mainly on shore power which bypasses the inverter anyway
The music at your dad's van sounds like blink 182. Sounds like me lol but yeah I put on headphones. Saying that I roller painted my van with blink playing and 2 bottles of wine. Went badly

Hi we would agree with the campsite comment but because we took our grandkids of Ten and seven there had to be entertainment in log flumes and Amusements but perhaps not During peak season and While Boardmasters was on !!!😮

Is the shunt even necessary in that charging circuit? I'm not sure what it's there to do. I have a Renogy system not a Victron one so it's not exactly equivalent but the only thing I have between my mppt charge controller and my leisure battery is a 50A circuit breaker. Looking at the description on the Victron site for the mppt charge controller you have I wonder if the shunt and the charge controller are getting in each other's way and cutting the shunt out of your charging circuit will solve the problem.

I love the idea of those window vents and wanted to get some for my vivaro but I have to say they are extremely overpriced even with discount code that's still £89 for a peace of plastic, shame really.
I think they’re worth every penny to be fair the amount of times I had my window open on my Vivaro to vent it out and woke up to wet seats 😂

Dad put earplugs in my mum got annoyed because the were noisy and my nephews couldn’t sleep. They left the next day though so not so bad

The baby is safer in the crib, laying on the bed, not without it. To many people have rolled over and killed their baby through neglachance and crush them.😢. But glad you all had a good time even without leccy.😊
