Maybe try the rf switch on the new black leds you have fitted? if you still get a whistle check the lamps are designed to be dimmed. Not all LED lamps are made equal. I'm a sparks so see a lot of this, been binge watching this build series & you have done really good ... albeit apart from not fitting any back boxes to those usb/240v mains sockets! And then using wood screws to mount the socket!!! (Cringe) Bit naughty I must say as the back of it was visible inside your "garage". Apart from that, good job man. Enjoying watching it as a fellow cornish person I always enjoy seeing my homeland on youtube.
hi shaun those fridge/freezers are great had on in my landrover, little tip fill fridge and run on the 240 in house 24hrs before trip or atleast make everything chilled b4 u put in fridge.. there is always a bit on noise at first compressor on full chat but at temp will only come on every now and again also sounds silly but crack open lid then open slowly,do it fast and the updraft will pull out all the cold air n beer will be less chilled jay
Dude! Just removed those exact spotlights from my van as they kept coming on and off randomly and also on occasion made that noise! Replaced them with some basic switches spotlights…. So much easier! Hope yours work out better 🤞
In your vid you mentioned plugging in your fridge in via the mains, if my belief is correct the fridge will natively run on 12v and hooking it up via the mains will just add a couple more conversation stages to the voltage, so just waste energy, I'd leave it as it is connected to the 12v feed. Also, you may want to look into roller catches for your doors and draws, they're cheap and tend to really hang on tight! 😂
So, to stop my cupboard doors, and toilet door opening whilst on the move, I've used toddler proof magnetic catches. They work amazingly well, and you cannot see them. It's been 3 years, I've never lost the magic handle thingy (when not in use, it just attaches on the metal framework, behind the carpet, above the cupboards). The only sign of where they are, is a small screwhead, countersunk at the contact point. This also has the advantage of holding the handle in place, keeping the catch open, if required.
10SETS Double Ball Catch Brass PAIR Cabinet Cupboard Door Roller Latch + Screws these work a treat for ur kitchen draws and cupboards u can even tighten the ball clips to be even tighter
I've never turned my fridge off, 3 years, still ok. I've got 2 solar panels to power it, and it's a big fridge, three shelves, icebox, and door storage. I always keep it on 12v, although it is plugged into 240v if required. I plug into mains at home December & January only.
Man I appreciate the time and money involved in this build. You have been so restrained inwaiting and expense for getting your hands on it to finish the job. In all vids you are doing everything so professionally. I am not sure I can be as good. You have your dad which is super for advice. I miss that imput. However you show us how it is done. Great work my friend. Keep it up. Get some of those beer zero alcohol companies to support your drink drive theme. Maybe they will sponsor all you do because you are a beer drinker. Lol you are most probably doing this anyway. It is just a thought for damaged goods. Love everything you do for Cornwall but I think everyone loves Cornwall. All the best from BrushStrokes of Frinton. Good luck m8 for your and your family. Cheers Tel
Glad to see you got the van back Shaun. Rewound the 1st few seconds to recognise the garage, just me being nosey. Hope you get it done in time for your holiday & havesome time together to enjoy it. Good luck...
The magnet catches are a sound idea you just need to get a set with a stronger magnet. I use a similar system to hide away my home server and IT equipment in the living room, the panels just pull off and do require a good tug so they're very secure. Look for some more heavy duty ones 👍
Possibly look at putting felt pads under the fridge, they make them for under the feet of chairs and such, just plain sticky back on them, will make it slide easier and stop any Possible drag marks on the floor.
I really enjoy your videos, I'm hoping to get another van one day myself. Child safety catches (Cheap fix) inside the draws and doors are very good they still allow them to open slightly (That's how you release them) but work really well and stop little hands going places they shouldn't. All the best.
Use 240v only to get fridge down to temperature. Using the inverter will be a waste of power. They are really energy efficient on 12v. Mine lasts for days on just the battery as you have a solar panel it will run and run and run.
Brilliant things are sent to frustrate us lol. Well done for being so fit. I could never fit in your freezer campartment lol. Hope it all goes well for the holiday. Just a note. Dulux is great but you need primer. Have you tryed BEDEC multi purpuse paint. First coat is a primer second coat and if you wish a third and it is water based. So easy to use. Some of my clients cannot spend £34 on primer plus paint. I know BEDEC is expensive but it helps. I am sure someone will destroy what I have just said but if it cuts primers it has got to be worth it.. Keep up the good work m8. Tel
Yes! The van is back. Loving the videos. I spent some time recently watching some of your other videos too.... I'm buying a mask and snorkel this week!! 😂
Brilliant to see the Transit is back Shaun and the build is coming along. I have worked on Dometic fridges for a while now and I've not come across any issues.
It's getting there marra 😄👍🏻I can't believe how big the inverters and other boxes are for these van builds. Yeh that fridge/freezer is expensive but it'll cover the family and you for days. I'm interested in the compressor noise overnight tbh, so be good to see how that turns out when you've done and get camping.
Two things I've taken from this vid. Firstly, if I'd wired those spotlights up and they didn't work properly, i'd have had a hissy fit and declared I was selling the van. Secondly, if I'd attempted to crawl into that space to wire the fridge up, I'd be like one of those potholers that went missing for weeks, only to be found dead with wild animals chewing my toes off........
Hello just to let you know the lights that you put the light in the light should unscrew by the the leds and then you push the LED down through the wood and screw the light back up .
Hi Shaun, the vans looking good mate coming along nicely, little creepy with you staring through the hole you just drilled 😂😂 keep going mate and you’ll get there soon buddy. 😊
Love the vids about the camper conversation but remember the fridge is a bit like a ps5 it needs air / space around the cooling/ compressor fans but so far it's a amazing build shaun 😊
Door catches, I saw on another TH-cam video using boat cupboard catches. Much stronger. Go to a boat chandler, you may find just what your looking for. Good luck. Love the vlogs 🙏
definitely agree with @projectzip, by using 240v to run the fridge, your converting 12v to 240v and then back down to 12v to run the fridge, its really inefficient, you'll be using almost double the watts doing it this way as a lot of energy is lost through the inverter. keep up the videos mate, great to see the van coming on
Shame about those lights. I've fitted 240 volt LED ones from Lego or whatever its called. They are brilliant. Just run them through my inverter. They turn on and off with a nice matching remote control and they don't make a noise. Only thing is there not touch sensitive and its either al on or all off . You can wire them on different transformers and use other remote controls . 👍
Great to see you back battling your transit again! I hope you, Kate and Charlie have a good holiday in it (I don't recall you giving your van a name)? I'm sorry but after seeing the lights stay off when powered up and wait for you to touch them, I knew your remote wouldn't work :-( They are designed to default to off when power is applied - you need some lights that are designed for a remote control or ones with separate mechanical switches (so the remote and local switch both need to be on (switches in series) for the light to be on. For light levels - look at the lumens the light fitting gives out. If you want a rough idea what (say) 470 lumens looks like, you can get mains LED bulbs from DIY stores / supermarkets with a known brightness (I tend to use Toolstation as I can pick the bulb I want from a paper catalogue (so much easier than from a website), but then I am a little old!) ... then wire up a standard bulb holder / length of flex with a mains plug on (your dad may have an old mains work light that has a mounting clamp and a cage round the bulb - this would be simpler) ... Then you can see if you need that much light or can have much less (this only works for lights like puck lights where the beam is wide, spot lights are much harder to 'emulate' Hope this is useful info, all the best
Great to see the van back, with it's new engine. Two questions: will the fridge need a vent panel in its cubby hole? And do you have plans to fit a wind-out rain porch on the outside?
Yea it was considering putting vents down the side but I thought I’d see how it goes first if it starts overheating then I’ll install some. No plans for a porch as it doesn’t look stealth enough but I do have a drive away awning for my Vivaro that I could use

Not an expert but many fridges nowadays especially compressor fridges all us mainly the same compressor, Years ago when I wanted on, they were stupidly expensive, Still are but many no name fridges are just as good and bigger, Found out with a family of at least 3 ,45L is a good size and up :) still loving the build, My transit is slightly older than yours by like probably 20 years LOL, Been travelling with my land rover mainly, still got it, but the van conversion is for more creature comfort I guess you would say

As far as the van build goes it might be worth just buying one and using it so it gets you out there enjoying it then convert one later on as these builds take a lot of time especially when you’re only doing it on the weekend
I'm really enjoying your videos, especially on this van build, I'm working my way through them. I was going to do a parallel lighting system (I have never done it before and not looking forward to it as there doesn't seem to be any clear videos out there on how to do it😬) but your lights could be a much simpler solution, please could you tell me what spot lights they are and where you got them? Cheers.😢
Thanks. I just noticed my accidental crying emoji at the end of my comment haha. I watched your last video of the van coming to an end so I could see how it turned out (incredible by the way 👊🏻) and noticed it seems you fitted different lights in the end, am I right?

Great to hear!

You can get marine cupboard latches that are used on boats so obviously are a lot stronger then the ones they normally sell in ikea and places :)

Thanks mate
Great to see you back in the van, another great vlog Shaun 😊
Thanks 👍
I found some extra strong magnetic catches on Amazon. Used them when a pull out shelving unit wouldn’t stay closed.
Have a lovely holiday with the family.
Thank you!
Good morning. Just watched the video nice to see you back to working in the van. Hope it goes to plan for you.
The magnet catches are a sound idea you just need to get a set with a stronger magnet.

Absolutely awesome hopefully I can do this one day
Use travel pegs in wood through the door handles to stop them opening during driving
Glad to see you're back in business on the van. Do make sure the fridge has proper venting!
That's the plan!
I used the same but longer magnets from toolstation but just doubled or tripled up to get more pull strength.
For the cabinets and draws try kid proof locks should do the trick
Rare earth magnets to secure the drawers and doors, tiny but super strong.
I really enjoy your videos, I'm hoping to get another van one day myself. Child safety catches (Cheap fix) inside the draws and doors are very good they still allow them to open slightly (That's how you release them) but work really well and stop little hands going places they shouldn't. Woohoo the transit is back...
Hi mate, I’m on holiday in Florida and still made time to watch your video, glad I did great video again 👍🏼👍🏼happy to see your vans good now🤞🏻🤞🏻

To secure your cabinets look into adding child proof latches. IKEA sells them for their cabinets I think if not other cabinet stores will have them
