Great idea regarding the camping responsible sticker Just come back from France and they are an example of how things could be, Black and grey empty sites in many car parks top up water points, and electric hook up points plus overnight parking, This country is extremely backward thinking
They wouldn’t do that here as they want us off the roads. They will use LEZ, ULEZ and pay per mile to make it very difficult for people to move around without paying. Consultation into pay per mile ended. If it goes through it will effect all motorists. 😢
I don't think we're backwards, I think we're irresponsible...we'll some are...hence why campers etc are disliked. If people took more responsibility and kept places clean and tidy after using them then there would be more tolerance for people in vans
@Pootz1000 I think the vast majority are pretty respectful. Its a shame the powers that be can't clamp down on the minority that aren't, rather than punishing the rest of us. I think there should be more locations offering park ups with basic facilities, it may actually reduce the problem without ruining things for everyone!
My daughter had to get the engine changed on her transit, that she'd already converted, not wanting to let all her hard work go to waste it had to be done. It served her well though, so was worth it. Also the license sounds like a good idea!
Surely a better solution would be to have dedicated campervan car parks (or sections within car parks) like they do in various places across Europe. Even in those paid car parks in Marazion we can often struggle to park the car because a van is taking up a space and a half, and there are multiple vans doing the same. If the spaces were organised especially for the purpose, there could be water and waste disposal, and CCTV to keep an eye on those abusing the area.
Now that I've just caught up with your Vlogs, I too think this is a great idea, however, I would suggest adding, that before the camper is issued with an ID membership number, they should adhere to where possible, spending money wherever they wish to camp for the night. Then, as their ID number is on the card, this could be registered at the till, so that at the end of the year, the card issuer can provide a copy of your spends that proves your support to any sensitive council's that have in the past venomously objected to camper vans. I recommend that any councils that currently have height restriction barriers on their carparks, especially those near to 'must see' places of interest, remove them, then they too would see numbers of visitors growing, and guess what? Revenue's would grow aswell. Too many of our historic attractions are off limits to the very people who would help supporting with the running costs. Councils may be surprised to hear the number of times that prospective revenue paying potential customers simply just turn around and go somewhere else that actually makes the effort to spend time and money. In general, the majority of campervan people are caring, and very interested to explore and see what our past managed to achieve hundreds, or even thousands of years ago. The greater majority typically 'leave no trace' and care about our history, wildlife and countryside. Not really a rant, but perhaps you are managing to stir good people up, that maybe one day, something will change for the better.
Hey. Sorry to hear about your engine troubles. Set up a just giving page or something similar (not familiar with other such services sorry - so just using as an example). There are enough people watching and enjoying your vids to pay for the engine for the cost of a coffee from a few hundred of your 43k subscribers ... Just saying - you take the time out every week bring us these vids if we can help out at all, I'm all for it and don't think anyone would take offence! So set something up - I'm sure you'll get lots of support. Stay positive... all will work out in the end.
I thought this straight away aswel, you’ve got 12,000 views on this video alone in 18hrs even if only half them donated a pound for all the content and time you give to making these videos a new engine would be bought and paid for, thus allowing more content 👍🏻 genius 😁
a camping license is a cracking idea ... I would def buy one and it should be 24hrs in popular places and 48 in some places it would encourage you to visit towns and villages bringing money into the places what need it ..
You would probably need to go further than just a sticker - I'm thinking something along the lines of Blue Badge with photo / unique number etc that must be displayed on inside of the window matched to the registration of the van. I think its a great idea...could start with an impassioned letter to your MP, Cornwall Council or maybe even a petition. Good luck :)
Local authorities are very nervous about allowing any free camping due to the precedent and potential costs for emptying bins/clean-up. They would also be wary of local backlash unless it could be shown that it has a local beneficial effect. So your idea is a good one as it potentially feeds funding into local resources and amenities, prevents rough camping on private land and places onus on the card holder to act responsibly. Where do I sign up? 😁
Sorry to hear about the new van with engine trouble but fingers crossed it will be active soon , that causeway is simply amazing and how it survives the storms etc , how often you down that way as would like to come by and say hello :)
Just found your channel and enjoying the content. Perhaps little late to comment after 10 months but the licence scheme is a great idea. Perhaps we should all write to our MP.
It’s an idea not an actually thing. Something that I thought might work in this country as it does in others. Just a way of allowing people to stay in council carparks overnight. Maybe one day it’ll happen
I went through similar disaster with my Hilux surf (you know, the one with the unbreakable bullet proof engine? That one.) it hurts but you can use the opportunity to buy new EVERYTHING. New seals, hoses, belts - it’s peace of mind.
I remember the days you could park on the road enjoying the view of st Michaels mount, then they made it a cycle path. Now even longrock is no longer free on Sundays,. I kayaked there too the other week. So nice. Id put my name down for that license
Yes! I’ve just had to do it for license to fly in EU too. it gives a feeling of qualification that what you think u know is actually right. In the uk where space isn’t as available and with an opportunity to make extra funds to cash strapped councils it really should be a thing.
I had to retire my first van due to rust so the way I see it is better to have a dud engine in a solid van than the other way around. you can swap an engine but if you have to change the body you're starting again from scratch.
After 6 years overseas, I am moving back to England in 5 months time. Considering full time van life from May next year, so the licence system sounds like a really good idea 🙂 Oh, how I have missed the green fields, hills, forests, canals, rivers, railways, amazing countryside. I may have had amazing sun etc, but it's surprising how much you miss your roots. Peace out and keep up the great content Shaun 🙏
better stay where you are the UK has changed drastically from your rose tinted glasses days. A dirty and unsafe place to be with hoards of illegal foreigners taking over the towns and cities and turning them into ghettos. an unelected government hell bent on destroying the UK you knew and turning it into a dictatorship.
What a lovely family beach day. So sorry to hear about the van engine. It will all be worth it in the end. Many years of trouble free camping & lots of happy memories made with your wife & Charlie.
Sorry to hear about the engine in the new van but, like you say, at least when it's done you'll be able to have some confidence that it won't break down. Great to see your Dad out there. Harry looks like he's going to follow in your footsteps.
Awesome family experience. Great music 2:08-2:17 and overall. Good idea. One might also require cleaning up after these pigs/people so they appreciate the problem.
Check to see if its due a recall on wet belt (ford etis) you might get engine for free, also get a new engine/turbo not a recon, just been through all this myself on my 16 reg custom
A few years ago my Ford Transit had a recall for replacement oil pump to be fitted. Apparently there were a number of faulty ones fitted. Perhaps worth investigating(?) . Thanks for sharing.
Mate, I could sit in front of this beach for days looking at the mount and causeway as the tide goes in and out. Flippin gorgeous. - The Malaysian Emmet
Great idea, the council's are missing out on a huge revenue steam, with up to 20,000 car parks in the UK, if they only charged a fiver night the numbers soon add up they just need to allocate a few parking bays per car park, with a simple licence system. You do have to applaud the French Aires system it's just so easy to use and well used too. maybe will catch up one day. Hopefully someone has some sway to make inroads over here or just overnight parking bays 🙂
I would welcome the licence, it would certainly help with the 21st century version of right to roam. But there are many obstacles to overcome. vested interest by landowners (okay the establishment), those who ruin for the rest of us, our basic culture that we have now (not a nice culture TBH), and the fact that Scotland already have wild camping and it works! France have got the right idea and welcome this sort of thing. As do many other countries in Europe. In fact, the USA have a big nomad society as well. I would say, forget approaching councils at the moment, and instead find an MP who is into this sort of thing. Someone who likes camping and motorhoming themselves and can see an understand the issues of van life as an alternative. Investigate every MP and their loves, and find the best one. It does not matter if they are red, blue, yellow, orange, etc etc, They just need to have a passion for camping. Worth looking into.
If you only want 1 or 2 burger rolls you should buy fresh from the bakers. Not only do they taste better they are not wrapped in plastic like supermarket bought burger rolls.
Fantastic video Shaun, the look on that young man’s face says it all, a memory he’ll never forget👍 I’m not a camper Van person (yet) but the idea of a licence is ideal and local councils would be missing a trick and much needed revenue if they turn it down, it would pay for facilities and the policing of it,surely the volume of people coming down in camper vans would prompt them to look at it and look at how it works in other countries, look at Scotland! Keep pushing this, there are plenty of people who will back you.😊👍
So you advocating another tax? If you look closely at NET ZERO, the government and local councils want all ICE vehicles off the roads as they consider them all “irresponsible” as they “pollute”.
I have a transit custom sport 2013 and I blew up my engine it cost me £2000 for a new block and everything taken off my engine and put on the new one. Also a few parts put on it as well, in total it cost around 4k
We have "self contained" status for camper Vans in NZ. It's currently under review as officialdom thinks it needs stricter standards, especially with toilets. Also its easy to just buy fake stickers online. The good thing is there are many Dept. Of Conservation campsites in incredibly scenic places that only allow self contained vans.
Love the idea of a responsible camper licence. Van - obviously van was not fit for purpose - if you paid for any of it via a debit / credit card or personal loan you could raise a chargeback claim under section 75 of the consumer credit act
If you look at the videos from salvage rebuilds, they have had a few of those engines and have used a company that refurbs the engines.coukd be cheaper for you.
Gutted to hear about your engine dilemma and also feel your pain! 😬 Had a gasket issue with mine back in 2014, it was pretty close enough to a new engine.😭 As for Marazion, I've been twice and failed miserably as the tide was in. So no St Michael's Mount. I will get across there at some point! Just need to time it right! 😅
Glad you had a fun day with the family at the beach. So nice to see Charlie for a few seconds. Good for you for helping your nephew with his snorkeling. He seemed happy with his accomplishment. Hope the engine thing gets sorted out quickly and it is not too expensive. Have a good week.
Great video, keep us posted with engine and costs im sure people will buy you a beer to cover it if your transparent. Dont be too hard on the van or yaself... i brought the best t5 i could find but still had to spend a small fortune on parts i had no way of seeing or knowing til it was stripped
Sorry about your van and hope you get a good new engine. I remember well the video of you snorkelling over the causeway. I is really beautiful and a bit surreal and I have watched it several times. Great experience for your nephew to go with you on a real snorkelling trip 👍😊 Thank you for sharing 😊
Great video! I spent most of my childhood summers at Perranuthnoe so brought back happy memories of looking towards St Michaels Mount. Nowadays we only get as far down as Charlestown but hopefully get further down the coast sometime in the future
I just spent £5k on new turbo and new injectors and dpf filter it's still not right so now they're saying new engine ....I feel your pain but I saw a video in you tube with similar van troubles and it was a faulty sensor on his so I'm gonna change that first before I drop another engine in 😢
This is what the garage have said to me. It’s best to just bite the bullet and get a new engine then have to spend loads on fixing things to eventually need a new engine anyway
@@LoveSundays I suppose yeah your right ,just my van is a work van and I use it everyday (self employed postman) I do intend to convert it one day so a new engine would be a great contribution.
Aww gutted for you about the need of a new engine x I guess you could say you would have had to buy one eventually as you will be keeping the van after all its upgrades? You looked upset though x LOVED seeing St Michaels Mount and Marazion again been a long time since I was there x and the family day at the beach was nice x Yeah NZ is really much more camper friendly!
If there is a "license", then there would need to be an 'agency' to enforce it. And there might lie the biggest stumbling block. There would need a be a budget and funding for the new 'agency', for it's overhead, personnel, vehicles, office space, etc.
The easiest option would be make all council car parks have the option to pay to park overnight and to be accepted you have to put in your camper licence. Especially if you do it through the justpark app that way it wouldn’t let you stay there for longer than 24 hours
Great idea about the camping licence not sure how you would go about getting the council on side as you say a few silly people spoil it for the rest of us x
Hey Dude, defo a good idea on the licencing style idea for the vans, I've been saying something along the lines of what you've said should be in place for a while now (also not sure how we'd go about getting it up and going, it's brilliant that you've just used your platform to bring this idea to a wider audience) I've stayed in that laybe a few times & always had a good nights sleep, we generally look for that style laybe nowadays rather than car parks, due to the strict bans of overnight stays! Hope you manage to get the transit sorted ok, it's been nice seeing the progress as we're currently going through the process of upgrading and getting a van converted bit by bit too 😎
Sorry to hear about you Ford motor, but no compression > a new engine right away? Well guess you know the inside outs. But anyways I think it is not a bad idea at all introducing a license like that, not only for the UK but Europe as well. Looking forward may you want to give this idea some form! Cheers Albert
I live in Marazion and just brought my first T5 from Devon. Great you say and well done, but the guy I brought it from stiffed me with £5000 or repairs. Still you cant take it with you so just enjoy it.
I'm not a van camper but it sounds like a great idea! You might need to collect names of support to help your cause before taking it to counsel. Great video this week!
Good vlog once again, Not good news on the new van diagnostic 😢, lucky too have the old van 😊 Great idea about the licence though the people that litter or mess will not join and would still be able to camp overnight at these venues, would have to take video evidence or pic with licence plate then would have to go through dvla for the council to get information? Though if cctv the Council could fine vehicles not registered on the licence to camp overnight? Council might not have resources. Good family day out 😊😊 like Marazion and Praa areas 😎🤙 0:03
I think the idea could be that to stay overnight it would need to be a Cornwall council carpark and to be able to stay overnight you would need to input your camping licence number when you get your ticket.
Sorry to here about the van but it will work out ok in the end. Lovely spot looking at the mount and where you parked overnight. Was it close to the Perranuthnoe turn off? Also nice to see a bit of snorkeling. Thanks as always Shaun for another top video. 👍
I had the same idea about the responsible van camper type thing but maybe setup by a cooperative of TH-camrs as examples. Everyone gets a card to start, like a license, two complaints (with photo or dash cam evidence) and it's void. Change the colour each year, if you don't have this year's, your a bad en.
Hi, Sorry to hear the bad news about the new Van. Did you buy it privately or from a Dealer / Motor trader ? If you bought from a Dealer / Trader they are legally obliged by consumer rights law to make sure the van is fit for purpose for 6 months even if you didn't purchase a warranty. If this is the case they are obliged to either replace / repair the failed engine or give you a full refund. This doesn't apply to a private sale as vehicles are sold as seen ...... Love the videos ...Cheers Dave
We were there this morning, having a double sausage and egg Mcmuffin overlooking the Mount ❤ Great vid as always chap 👍 Edit - reach out to Councillor Zoe Young, she is doing a lot of work to help Cornwall Van dwellers and discussing various options, so may be a good local person to help advise on your ideas buddy 👍
Having seen the episode when you first purchased the Transit, surely the dealer provided you with a warranty? as he would have to by law. Even so you should be covered by the consumer protection laws? Thanks for your content, I hope to be getting a camper myself soon to discover more of North Devon and elsewhere, some of your tips etc have been very helpful. Many thanks👍
Hi, just subscribed, your video was great, looking forward to watching some of your others. Im 100% behind you with the 'Responsible Camper Licence' card, but as another comment mentioned, something like a blue badge to put in your window is a good idea. Good luck and keep us updated with it please. Oh by the way your baby is just gorgeous!! 😊
Hi Shaun. What a cracking video mate. That burger looked pretty tasty mate, The camping license is a cracking idea shaun but you did mention 1 problem that talking to a council that will listen, such a shame about your new vans engine mate bit off a nightmare that is bur at least you’ll have peace off mind once it’s done. 😊
As someone with a 220k mile Ford Transit myself, total engine failure is a major consideration for me too. I hope you're going to cover it in some detail, because I suspect Imma find myself in your precise position one day. I'm right with you on the responsible camper license. I'm in Cornwall too, so I think what we need to do initially, is form some form of nascent group/organisation around which others can work on and solidify the concept into something that the council has to take seriously. I think the proposal has legs, and could provide tie-ins with suppliers of the necessary equipment, and even insurance discounts? You mention chemical toilets, but I was considering a composting toilet for my conversion. Do you think that would be a problem?
Lot of newer transit has a rubber timeing belt that goes in oil bath when belt wears it gloggs the the oil pump strainer and ruins the engine its bad design you need to make sure ure timeing belt has been done any doubt get it changed and get the strainer cleaned out and change oil regular probably a 5k bill for engine repair
@@eddie4561 Thanks for the info. I kind of factored that into the price when I bought her. High-mileage yes, but a 2018 L4H3 in otherwise excellent condition for £5.5k? I found it hard to turn down.
Great idea regarding the camping responsible sticker
Just come back from France and they are an example of how things could be,

Alright Matey,

Wild Camping Licence ... Brilliant idea 💡... First step IMO start collecting names and addresses of those interested ... Create a page on your website
Responsible camping sticker a winner
The license could come with a test a bit like the operator’s license for drones. So new campers are educated about waste etc
I just had to do a refresh on my operators licence and that’s what gave me the idea 😂
Yes! I’ve just had to do it for license to fly in EU too. it gives a feeling of qualification that what you think u know is actually right.

We stayed in Ashton a few weeks back, house sitting for a friend. Went to the Mount, tide was in, sun was shining, amazing views 👍

I was worried you were going to drop that burger in the sand!
Awesome family experience. Great music 2:08-2:17 and overall. Good idea. One might also require cleaning up after these pigs/people so they appreciate the problem.
Common Transit/Ranger issue unfortunately, faulty injector & hole in the piston 👎 - hope it gets sorted ok for you.
Check to see if its due a recall on wet belt (ford etis) you might get engine for free, also get a new engine/turbo not a recon, just been through all this myself on my 16 reg custom
It the 2.2 engine not the 2.0. I made sure I stayed clear of buying a van with the wet belt in it
Shame about the engine Shaun however it hasn't stopped you doing what you love the most. Cheers.
Love the mount one of my favourite places in Cornwall.
Attach a yearly charge to it to go towards upkeep of these camping spots.
A few years ago my Ford Transit had a recall for replacement oil pump to be fitted. Apparently there were a number of faulty ones fitted. Perhaps worth investigating(?) . Thanks for sharing.
And really sorry to hear about the engine. I'm assuming the oil pump failed and took out the engine with it?😢

Look up phoenix engineering, will swap transit engines over for a fully reconditioned one. Not near you but they are a highly recommended company
Hi great idea for the lis ence it would help aall who live and use campers .
We have got to have a system that doesn’t allow for a group of travelers taking over a car park with the need for overnight stays for the rest of us.
Never mind your nephew...well done young man. Was that Dad x?x
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree ❤
Come on ppl , 43k in subs , if we all chip in , let’s get this engine sorted … Get quote for new one not second hand or referred .
Thanks!
Thank you
Amazing video as all ways good luck with the van and great to see you out with the family keep up the good work
I have a transit custom sport 2013 and I blew up my engine it cost me £2000 for a new block and everything taken off my engine and put on the new one. Also a few parts put on it as well, in total it cost around 4k
Hi matey sorry to hear about your van. Yea I've been in both lay-bys with caravan but there is a guy that blows is horn parking attendant I think.
Great video and camping idea, cheers for the battery advice the other week.
Great video again 👍🏼really enjoyed watching it , thanks
Have you tried the rattler zero yet. Tried it at the Shire for Sunday dinner, really crisp and refreshing.
Yes I tried it in a video a little while back
@@LoveSundays I'll check the back catalogue.
Best of luck with the new van. Keep up the great content. Commenting from Ohio!!!
The Causeway always reminds me of Elton Johns Goodbye Yellow Brick Road , so sorry to hear about your bab luck with the van
great idea for the camping licence
That was so nice 😊 of you to take your nephew out for a snorkel to the island. Great memories for the kid💜
He really enjoyed himself
Love the idea of a responsible camper licence.
Van - obviously van was not fit for purpose - if you paid for any of it via a debit / credit card or personal loan you could raise a chargeback claim under section 75 of the consumer credit act
Awesome video mate, looks like you had a great, destressing mini break :)
We should do what they do in France, you can park overnight in places as long as you’ve moved on in the morning..
If you look at the videos from salvage rebuilds, they have had a few of those engines and have used a company that refurbs the engines.coukd be cheaper for you.
Gutted to hear about your engine dilemma and also feel your pain! 😬 Had a gasket issue with mine back in 2014, it was pretty close enough to a new engine.😭
As for Marazion, I've been twice and failed miserably as the tide was in. So no St Michael's Mount. I will get across there at some point! Just need to time it right! 😅
Great idea. Might work.
Glad you had a fun day with the family at the beach. So nice to see Charlie for a few seconds. Good for you for helping your nephew with his snorkeling. He seemed happy with his accomplishment. Hope the engine thing gets sorted out quickly and it is not too expensive. Have a good week.
Totally agree with burger buns lol newly single and I waste so much food like that. Same with salad stuff.
Morning Shaun . Currently down in Cornwall if you fancy a beer . Glad you are finally getting the transit sorted. And get you 43k subscribers 👏👏👌
Great permit idea! 👍
Thanks Torunn
oh dear buddy hopefully you get ya van bk but I love the old van TBF Shawn 😂
Bloody Great Idea And really enjoying your vids 👍
Great idea about the camping licence not sure how you would go about getting the council on side as you say a few silly people spoil it for the rest of us x
Hey Dude, defo a good idea on the licencing style idea for the vans, I've been saying something along the lines of what you've said should be in place for a while now (also not sure how we'd go about getting it up and going, it's brilliant that you've just used your platform to bring this idea to a wider audience) I've stayed in that laybe a few times & always had a good nights sleep, we generally look for that style laybe nowadays rather than car parks, due to the strict bans of overnight stays! Hope you manage to get the transit sorted ok, it's been nice seeing the progress as we're currently going through the process of upgrading and getting a van converted bit by bit too 😎
Ah man that’s bad news! But I guess it has to be done
Hope all goes well with your other Von and doesn't cost to much
I'm not a van camper but it sounds like a great idea!
@@LoveSundays yes that would work as long nobody shares someone their reg, but would need too combine with cctv for vehicle reg and licence reg. 😎👍
Do you have a warrantee with the new van - you’ve not had it long for such a catastrophic failure? Could there have been a fault when you bought it?
Yea it still has warranty but it only covers up to £1k of repairs
@@LoveSundays at least that’s something. I’d support what others are saying with a go fund me for the rest 👍🏻
We were there this morning, having a double sausage and egg Mcmuffin overlooking the Mount ❤
Great vid as always chap 👍
Edit - reach out to Councillor Zoe Young, she is doing a lot of work to help Cornwall Van dwellers and discussing various options, so may be a good local person to help advise on your ideas buddy 👍
The van came with a warranty but it only covers up to £1000 of repairs
Hi, just subscribed, your video was great, looking forward to watching some of your others. Im 100% behind you with the 'Responsible Camper Licence' card, but as another comment mentioned, something like a blue badge to put in your window is a good idea. Good luck and keep us updated with it please. Oh by the way your baby is just gorgeous!! 😊
Welcome to the channel Cheryl
Your nephew did a great job, well done Harry!
I think so too!
Hi I'm looking to come to St Ives in Sept would you know of any park ups in and around thanks
Well done harry!!
Thanks Jon
@@LoveSundays keep up the good work mate.
Another good video 👏👏👏👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
