    Thank you so much for these amazing videos! They are so helpful! Many of us would be grateful if you could do a comparative review of A7RV, GFX100S and X2D 100C with details about capabilities but most importantly image quality. It would be very helpful to hear your thoughts and your reviews given all the great and so well documented videos you have done on the Fuji, Hasellblad and now the new Sony. Thank you again!!!

      The medium format camera will still have better IQ with better low noise performance and more detail, when it comes to everything else though, A7RV is better no questions asked. Honestly very simply conclusion can be made just looking at the specs. Honestly I would go for the A7RV just because I’m in the Sony ecosystem, and even if I wasn’t I would still go for the A7R5 simply for the more lens options, better general performance, better software support(e.g. Lightroom), and size/weight. If I were to go medium format I would go with the GFX simply because capabilities matters more to me than build quality and shooting experience, and also it’s cheaper both in the lens and body department for the GFX. Right now I’m using the Sony A1 as my main camera which is why I’m checking out this video and personally, I’m going to wait until with the A1 II or the 100mp A7R6 rather than getting the A7R5 simply because of the low sensor readout speed and low burst speed, and the resolution boost is honestly quite negligible when I compared 61mp files from the A7IV to the A1. Obviously there’s the new stabilization, the more intelligent autofocus, and the new screen, and although the screen and the stabilization are definitely a win win for the A7R5, I would say the new autofocus system isn’t really much better if better at all. Anyways in my opinion I would go with the A7R5, but GFX100s if you’re only shooting for detail and not much else, and Hasselblad if you want the best shooting experience.

    Thank you very much, great video!
    I love my sony A1 and the lens selection but frankly their lack of substantial/meaningful firmware updates is embarrassing!
    Even for their "Flagship camera".
    Focus breathing compensation came out with A7SIII (OCT 2020) and still not available for the A1!!!! So I don't see the new focus stacking (A7RV) making its way to other models.
    Also $1200 for a CF express type A is disgusting!!!

      I fully understand your points, Kevin. In particular firmware updates are always an issue. I never get them to work via my Macbook, always have to find a Windows laptop to get it done. But the a7RV does a lot of things right and deserves a closer look. It is a really good camera.

    A simple way to sum this up is The 7R series cameras are made to excel at Still shooting so when it comes to features needed in that aspect it will have the best possible specs The Alpha1 is the FLAGSHIP so the only specs that are lower than the 7R5 are simply because its older But even tho its still has a Better sensor and will excel in Videography use. Remember Megapixels don't have anything do with the quality of the sensor matter of fact the higher the megapixels the worse Lowlight capabilities it will have. BTW what a great thorough comprehensive SPEC view.

This being said, I am surprised you are as into small-rig as you are rather than the RRS L-Brackets. Of course... if you are shooting video all the time... maybe. RRS is for photographers rather than videographers. Very good video. Our release date is December 6th. Ill pick my new one up that day. • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Color Science is definitely significantly better in images coming out of camera with the Hasselblad X2D, no doubt about that. But maybe you can create a preset in Lightroom Classic transforming Sony images getting closer to X2D images when it comes to color? I never tried to do a color matching for these two cameras, will have a look what can be done. In terms of applications, the Sony is the more versatile tool. In terms of color and the last quantum of image quality, the X2D is clearly better.

    I know that you also do a lot of videos on Leica systems. For someone who does not do sports or wildlife, but does do travel and landscape, how would you compare the Sony A7R5 to the Leica SL2?

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are not into sports & action photography, I would go for a Leica SL2. My judgment here is probably a bit biased since I work a lot with Leica Switzerland and shoot a lot with Leica cameras. Quick download on comparison: both cameras have a high resolution and high dynamic range and excellent image quality. Autofocus system on the Sony is much better than on the Leica. But the shooting experience on the Leica is at the top, simpler menu, easier to handle, great in hand, etc. And if in landscape photography you need multishot resolution, the handling on the Leica is much easier since the multishot is composed in the camera body whereas on the Sony you have to compose manually on your computer with Sony software. So if I would be you and care about landscape, reportage and travel, and do not need super fast autofocus tracking, not shooting sports & action, the Leica SL2 would be my choice.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว

      By the way, next days I will post a comprehensive tutorial on the Sony a7RV so that might help further to see if the complex menu on the Sony really is for you or if you'd rather prefer the simple handling of a Leica SL2.

My sony A1 can't get rid of them regardless the mechanical shutter, variable shutter and or antiflicker funktion. Sometimes also when i am matching the frequency 1/50 or 1/100.
