Joan is one of the greatest characters ever written, hands down!
I think she's a pretty good character but _greatest_ is a bit of a stretch.. although I would consider Don Draper a great character. They both give phenomenal performances though.
I said ONE of the greatest and stand by my comment. She had a brilliant character development that showed how a beautiful woman with a brain played the game that was not set up in her favor. Brilliant.
Christina played her beautifully!
I noticed this watching some of her old interviews and the newer ones. She almost seemed just like Joan back then, and now seems more grounded and her own person. Nevertheless, the beauty, charisma and intelligence is the same. Love Christina.
Just... like... Joan's own character arc!
Cary Grant had that same public perception issue. He arrived 'as himself' to one of his last awards shows and the ticket girl didn't believe who he was. He said something along the lines of "Don't worry darling,..not even I can live up to Cary Grant." He ended up having stage production management vouch for him. The fantasies of celebrity.
People who can’t tell between an actress/actor and their character worry me. Please get a life.
dark.demon .queen And if some performers are always eager to please those people (consciously or unconsciously, for whatever reason), the problem just gets worse and worse...
That tends to happen to people who are "born to play" a certain character, like her and Joan (and seemingly everyone on that show, apparently)
You can understand why actors can be reclusive , must be scary for them sometimes
yes but also it shows how the actor did a fantastic fucking job
@spooky katt Rewrite your comment for intelligibility. Start with clear abstraction-generality and pronoun references. Thanks.
Christina looks good in anything and can be herself. I've photographed her several times and I'm always star struck. She's amazing!
I liked what she said about the girl who just wants to go to a party with a pretty dress and have fun
Mika Arguello me too, my social anxiety is through the roof, I’d like to just go to a party
So...Jennifer Lawrence, then? We all loved her for that so I'd argue that many constraints put upon themselves are self made. I think celebs get caught up trying to protect their career and forget that most of us will judge behavior either way you decide to go. I suppose a good tip for these people is to have some sort of inner circle that they can check in with that is not a bunch of anonymous 16 years with very brutal opinions. Check in with the people YOU approve of and, also, stop living for others in regards to fashion and that sort of thing. Just be yourself. Most of us respect that.
I am a massive Christina Hendricks fan. Terrific actress.
yes massive indeed
galen stone elite actress and 1950s gorgeous
you mean terrific boobs. Yes
yea I'm sure you're a fan of her MASSIVE acting skill.
@@SDwilly hey she is a really good actress as well:)
I've always loved finding out what characters are like off screen. We already know Joan but CHRISTINA knits and gardens and wears messy buns and jeans and I just love that about her. Acting is about duality and being your character 24/7 isn't acting it's anxiety. She keeps it balanced and that's why she will be good for just about any role she wants to play
She is a phenomenal actress. People could talk to her for hours and never bring up her body or looks, but the industry bring what it is, they never want to ask her about anything else.
What a beautiful woman. My hubby and I think she took over Madmen with her ‘Joan’ character. Yep, she stole the show.
Agreed! I found myself bored by every scene she wasn’t in. I was always looking for her.
Agreed, one of the best characters imo
She’s classy, beautiful & confident! Love Love her acting.
She's so much prettier and easier to relate to. I like Joan but I love Christina!
As a huge Bjork fan, I love the fact that she referenced the swan dress from way back when. I always thought that was a wonderful moment for individualism and a much appreciated middle finger to the Hollywood establishment., which takes itself far too seriously.
You obviously know absolutely nothing about Bjork. She couldn't care less about the mainstream media machine or impressing Hollywood elites. That was the entire point of the swan outfit.
Agree agree agree! Also, who else put together a look that we are still discussing this many years later? (I actually thought it looked good and was a nice dress too, which i have never heard anyone else EVER say, so i might be super alone on that point)
j bre no, your not!
Bjork is an artist and an eccentric and she is connected to other things, far too deep for people to have a grasp on. Her choices are not as a sign of protest, or as a " middle finger" to anything really, she is just doing herself , being true to who she is. She is interested in expressing her individuality and art, not in being liked ( which was a true artist is and does).
That being said, accusing Hollywood as taking itself too seriously, is again inaccurate. Hollywood is actually gone. The starlets that once were don't exist today, I am afraid. When you made a "Hollywood Star" you didn't simply hire an actress. You made her an ICON! . An actress was supposed to be an individual, glamorous, and a inspiration for all women. How many actresses can compare today to Kathrine Hepburn with her wit and strong personality?! Or to Mae West, or Ava Gardner, or Faye Dunaway? There are no icons anymore. There are only women ( and men) who have a job as an actress( actor) . But no actress is inspiring in the way that the Hollywood icons once were and the whole Hollywood thing was a dream. Hollywood was iconic. Not anymore. Hollywood does not take itself seriously anymore, if it did, the Oscars would not be the joke that they are today. There is talent , but that's it. Even on the red carpets the actresses are dressed terribly, it seems by amateurs. The fabrics of their dresses get crippled for fucks sake. Before, an actress would wear only custom made dresses for events, therefore she was seen as an unique archetype and dressed for her "part"( to be a star), not a dress that any woman with money could have because it is in the window of a shop ( as almost everybody does nowadays). The actresses before OWNED all the jewelry they wore, those hude diamonds and gems. They didn't pretend to be glamorous, they truly wore. Now it's like Hollywood is full of peasant girls that know only jeans and tshirts and some stylist plays dressup with them once in a while. This is not what Hollywood meant. So Hollywood does anything BUT take itself serious anymore...
@@mgdkns6678 Have you heard the joke about nostalgia? It was even better back in those days...
wow. She is SO different than Joan.
Sea_ Nettles i know right? What a stunning actress to be able to transform like that for the screen. I adore her
No shit?
ikr
She's amazing. Watching her now I would not have reconize her. That's how amazing an actress she is.
I loved her in Mad Men shes great in Good Girls too
What a gorgeous woman! She is an amazing actress.
When I saw her in Drive it took quite some time to recognise her. I was impressed by her shapeshifting
Shapeshifting? I mean, she was a busty redhead, how did you not recognize her?
@@raharu000 She's actually a blonde.
Wth i had no idea that was her lmao
WANLAN 369 right!?
I am so pleased to have found this channel and this series. The shot choices, the questions you ask, the minds you bring on-- It is bar none the closest thing to my heart since I discovered Inside the Actor's Studio.
I love this so much! I can't believe she's so gorgeous and still has insecurities. It really makes me feel better about myself
She’s such a talented and stunning woman
I love her, and your videos. Thank you for sharing!
Woah this hit me in the feels way harder than I thought it would
Loved her in Mad Men, and like this handsome interviewer.
First time on the channel. This was great! Never watched Mad Men, but probably will now. I'm a bit weird that I need for the hype to die down before I can enjoy a show my way.
beautiful lady, I like how friendly and grounded she is
She's beautiful inside and out,... I hope we see more of her in the future!!
What's up with the other 3 videos in the playlist which are listed as private? Why can't we see them? I'd love to be able to watch them, Sam is amazing interviewer and Christina is just a delight!
I love Sam Jones, he's so down to earth.
She’s very funny too, listen to her commentary on the MM DVDs, she’s on one with Kiernan Shipka (Sally Draper) and after one scene with Sally she says “Sally Draper your evil plan worked!” I fell over laughing. What a fun girl she must be!
Wheres the funny part?
What a scrumptious woman! A feast for the eyes.
I love how they were talking about the stupid best/worst dressed list. I’ve felt that’s just crap. She’s lovely and she made a great character come to life! 💕
OMG love CHRIS'S style
dress or pant suits
Smart, stunning and funny too. What a woman.
I love this, like a deconstructed, but honest joan holloway.
I think this is really great; I appreciate the interviews. However, I'd just like to say that Christina Hendricks not once mentioned that it was like being in high school, she said it was like being bullied. But the high school analogy came back a few times after she said this, without much recognition of her statement about bullying. Just a comment on the importance of listening, especially to the guests (and perhaps using their terminology more than one's own), in interviews (or generally). Thanks again for the interview(s), however.
I noticed this too. Making the analogy once was fine, but after several times it started to sound like the interviewer was overriding her experience. He's normally great but on this he could improve.
there's other excerpts of this interview where she talks about being bullied in high school. maybe this one came later in their conversation and it's in reference to an earlier part of the interview. check "Christina Hendricks: Can't a Goth Girl Get a Break?".
Around 2 minutes he says: I would think that it would harken back to highschool.. it's.." and there she cuts him off with an affirmitive "its like bullying" him: "yeah" while she repeats "its like bullying". Clearly they agreed on that anology there.. just saying
I like this side of her seems humble.
My first 7 years of business were at the tail end of the NYC Mad Men era. Every office had a "joan". The one we all drooled over. All the while the woman's movement was picking up steam.
it is wonderful i loveeeeeee you darling !
All the actresses in MM were just the best. To be a modern women in this world of the 2000s with today’s women’s power, playing women from the sixties. Amazing acting. They are so hot when you saw them on today’s talk shows, forgetting that it’s today not the 1960s.
She's INSANELY beautiful, Marilyn MONROE Beautiful.
She'll always be Saffron to me.
Smurph Ftw I was just thinking, here’s Yo-Saff-Bridge, reading the room and giving us exactly what we want 😆
Amen, our Mrs Reynolds
I'll be in my bunk!
This is a good video to watch on a lazy Monday afternoon.
Joel Otero 2 years later watching the video on a lazy Monday afternoon
Great actress!
Damn! Love this show! So refreshing
I love how she's explaining it
Love Joan...love Christina 🥰
She’s a queen 👑
She is mesmerising
I love her
Sam Jones won an Oscar for maintaining eye contact for that long. Amazing talent, impressive
She is a terrific actress..... look beyond her looks everyone
@GFrank i don't think she ever said that
GFrank That is what everyone say about women with big boobs but what do you expect her to do with them? It’s not like she can choose when to wear them. If she covers up comepletly it’s going to look like a big tent. I’m sure you can learn to look beyond!
GFrank Apparently not! Then how do you suggest she “hides” her boobs so you are able to take her seriously? It’s the same with your type - “she flaunts her body” when all she is doing is existing in the body genetics gave her. She could wear a full burka, but I’m guessing that wouldn’t stop you sexualising her or demeaning her.
GFrank No, that was never my point. But just as I don’t think people “demand respect” by the outfit they are wearing, I don’t think you should disrespect someone for their outfit. She is wearing pants and a jacket for gods sake - yes with cleavage but she is covered from feet to boobs and long sleeves as well. I think it would be hard to find a more conservative outfit without it looking like a nuns habit. You just disrespect women you find attractive and blame them for your sexual feelings or frustrations!
GFrank I’m not the one criticising a woman for putting her tits “front and center”! You can’t have much experience with boobs...
The #1 reason I watched Mad Men was to see Christina. Now the Audience channel is gone from DirecTv. Damn it !
My favorite Mad Woman!
Love her!
Love her hair.
I LOVE WHE SHE SWEARS
He's like "Eyes up there, eyes up there, eyes up there"
I loved her as Joan, now I think she's a fabulous, down to earth and intelligent person! Best of both worlds! PS: laughed at the media criticising one's outfit bit, and I'm sorry, I hope it hasn't dissuaded you from too many fun things :)
She was incredidible in MM. Way 2 go promoting the Show
The interviewer and Hendricks were discussing the same subject but from totally different perspectives. Hendricks made a point of going to a "red carpet" party as she would like to go to any other regular party and enjoy herself, like a normal person. After Hendricks explained that, the interviewer (trying to (re)interpret her words) said "Hey! I'm this artist, I came all the way here, I'm at the top of my craft (etc, etc)". NO, man! That is exactly the OPPOSITE of what she was trying to say. She said that she just wanted to enjoy the party and be seen at it for what she really is: a normal person (and not be seen -- at that specific moment -- as "an artist at the top of her game", which is (btw) exactly the cause of so much expectation and criticism from people who actually don't know her).
Our Mrs. Reynolds on Firefly
Is it just me or is she even more stunning irl? Is that even possible?
She looks stunning here
Anyone else trying to finish MM before it gets taken off Netflix🙋🏻♀️
OMG!!! Me ✋
Are they taking off of all countries?
ME, I am in season 6 and wondering if I'll take it.
Víctor Chávez I’m only on 5😩🥵 I’m just fast forwarding through at this point. I’ve come too far!
Isaac Jamil no clue:/
awesome awesome interview. i've just watched two gay men, a beta male, and a lesbian interview her, and they completely failed to address her as a person. you on the other hand managed to really get it real. awesome job.
Glenna Smith A beta male is, well first of all it's a male. For the liberals, this is a tough concept to grasp, and yet I'm going to grasp it, and move on to the subtype: the beta male.
The beta male sees his best opportunity in mating (with a female) deriving from the assumption of a servile deprecation.
This would mean of course agreeing with abortion, the wage gap, etc.
Glenna Smith nps. know your place, and behave
Glenna Smith paws!
@@arbogash1852 ouch I cut myself on your edge
@@arbogash1852 come back when you can write
This woman is amazing.....👍
People should check her out in "Tin Badge". What a different character.
Every woman in the world feels this pressure, not just celebs. Every car run, every PTA event, every post on your social media account is open to scrutiny. It’s everywhere.
She would be a great Angela, Huntress of Hell Spawn.
I know shes a down to earth girl.. Always have.
Some actors will always be identified with iconic roles they played long ago. For me, no matter how much she does, she'll always be...Yolanda.
Unreal gorgeousness.
Love her! 💕 Be the Bjork in a swan suite!!!
haha that's such a great point
I love her! She’s my soulmate!
Damn she's beautiful!
I found myself being very attracted to Joan not because of the usual trappings, but because she struck me as a very intelligent woman. But she never returned my phone calls.
ha? hatdog
She didn’t return mine either, probably lost my number, yeah that’s it! She’ll be calling me back any minute now....
Her trappings are lovely too.
Wear what you want to!!!
She is two my favorite people in the whole world.
She said "phenomenon". Probably the first celebrity I've heard to use the singular of that word correctly. Could she BE any more perfect?! 💕
Hey, that's the lady from that cat food commercial
Hollywood sounds wonderful.
The whole critiquing of what celebrities wear is so weird. It’s cool to see ‘best dressed’ lists as a sort of inspiration but putting a ‘worst dressed’ in there is just mean spirited.
I get it for men’s fashion where there are more concrete rules, like a pants break that’s too long, buttoning the bottom button on a suit, wearing a necktie with a tuxedo, wearing a notch lapel tuxedo, or just general tailoring and fit stuff. But women’s fashion more or less has no rules so the critique is never constructive, just mean, it’s not “these pants are too long,” it’s “this is ugly.”
Seems like a double standard
There used to be rules for women's clothing such as: Either show your breasts or your legs, match your shoes with your handbag, if you have a low neckline wear a necklace etc but these seem to have been abandoned recently where as the men's rules seem to have stuck...Although ankle grazers are everywhere in 2018!
I do agree that constructive criticism of women is way less than men.
I would much rather see more beautiful outfits than ugly ones, some lists have equal amounts of both. Then again that is like talent contests on TV, I would much rather see everyone who is good, I get zero enjoyment out of seeing someone embarrassed & talent-less, it just makes me cringe & feel sorry for them.
Don't forget wear a mask.. cocked a little impishly to one side...

High-school never ends
Interesting.... January Jones did not do that remotely. Would be interesting to compare where the difference approaches got them henceforth.
Daaaaaymm!
Riiiiiight...
I never thought of insulting someone’s look! Celebrities who irk me are usually hypocritical ones or phony ones.
beautiful and feminine. She is a rare one. Elegant.
How dare you say feminine!?!! Don't you realise it is forbidden?! What do you think those fat lesbians with hairy legs and green hair are fighting for?
oscar gomez that was perfection 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I laughed so hard.
It is a weird situation. People who are expected to be exceptional also being expected to be generic, to the point where so many of them get actual surgeries etc. to look more like one-another and less individual. I guess this goes hand in hand with how so many actors are simultaneously exhibitionists and deeply insecure.
I don't know if it's her makeup or the B&W picture (and the resulting lack of red hair), but I can't recognize her here. I recognize her voice, but I look at her face and I see a different person.
Does anyone else get this, or am I the only one?
Haters are aways going to hate..
Why is this video in black and white?
Stylistic choice. Every Off Camera video is in black and white, helps set them apart I guess
Love her❤❤❤don't call her full figured!!What
Full figured isnt an insult
Flat out the most beautiful woman in the world.
Eyes up here, Sam.
This sounds so crappy. Even Huffington Post is great at posting some of this stuff: “Look At This Stunning, Stupidity In Fashion Did! We Cannot Unsee This!”
Then there is the awards for the best, and “worst” fashion... Who made these people the Judgmental Experts?!
