    The only three reasons I keep my 2012 848 evo.
    It's paid for, It's beautiful (white on red) and it does 100 mph wheelies.

      Yes I agree that the 848 Evo was the best Ducati ever made. And yes I have actually really ridden one not like most keyboard asses on YT. I brought the 1198 and what a ripper. Never had a single issue in 4 years. Problem is cheap ass idiot owners who don't maintain them like they should and then the bike breaks and they whine Ducati is crap.

    For those saying that Japanese bikes have no soul, I understand. I own a Harley Davidson and I use to have a Triumph Daytona. These bikes have soul. But I think what we are calling soul, is actually feeling the engine. When we say the bike has soul, it’s because we can hear and feel the engine operating. Much like the old muscle cars. But that doesn’t mean that Japanese bikes have have no soul. The Japanese have refined the motorcycle engine so well, you can’t feel them. They may even have more soul than all others, they are just so smooth, you don’t notice.

    • @cranialdiscomfort
      @cranialdiscomfort 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      G Man Thats such a good way to put it. I own and ride a ninja 300 everywhere, and the soul it has is unique and of its own. The way it handles, the feeling of the bars, the seat, the noise, the slight warmth you feel on your legs from the engine, its all part of the soul.

The torque makes it much easier to ride fast without having to change gears as much to maintain the power band. It has better traction because of the smoothness of the power delivery. However, you are correct about ducatis no longer being in iom.. Twins, and any twin just can't do the job. My 2 legs would never out run a dog, you know,,,, they have four legs.. They will just always be faster... Ducati has just finally bit the bullet and folded "for the better" and moved into the 4cylinder game.. A little herky jerky at low speeds, the clutch is a little "black and white" with no smooth roll-on, the dry clutch kind of sounds like a two stroke, or a genuine race bike, but broken if you don't know motorcycles, and the first gear is tall when putting around town. Ben Daulton if service and maintenance costs are a concern, buy anything other than a Ducati.
      I had a Hypermotard 821sp, I loved it, but running costs were prohibitively high, and I ended up being scared to ride it in case something else broke and I had to deal with another massive repair bill.

      I had an 848 evo and several hypermotards.
      The big services would be £1000 easy, the small services would be £400, but there would always be extras (coolant change, fork oil change, brake fluid change etc) that would bump the overall cost up to about £1000.
      things you could do yourself, or take elsewhere, but if you declined, when you get the paperwork back, it would state “brake fluid change due, customer declined” which defeated the point of having full Ducati service.
      I took it to a local garage once because the Ducati main dealer was too far away.
      They adjusted my brakes incorrectly and cooked a caliper, abs sensor. You don’t want to know how much that cost.
      A screw vibrates loose from the abs ring and milled a groove in some components at the rear, you don’t want to know how much that cost.
      If you need to replace a hub, or a swingarm or bodywork or ANYTHING on a Ducati, it’s thousands, when it would be hundreds on a Suzuki.
      An abs sensor is £400. And you’d fail to find any second party suppliers

    Italian designers seek the exploration of limits in design so well. I feel Ducati builds some intelligent, demanding bikes. They're not for everyone, because of that.
    Performance should never be too comfortable. Some of us prefer a machine that's a bit raw, that requires the rider to get to know the bike, to build a relationship and understanding with its quirks and strengths. That process is part of the experience of riding, for some.

      Lukas no oil means more friction which means more wear. more efficient sure but less reliable for a margin of that efficiency that most riders will not ever actually experience. basically just lazy and ducati calls it their roots. personally i am still gonna buy a v4 but it is a stupid concept.

    • @Hemeddigkanalen
      @Hemeddigkanalen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BOBBY MAY i get what youre saying, but imo i still think the sound (especially ducatis) is worth the hastle. And as you mentioned, it is a Little more efficient at using the power. But i dont Think it is stupid in any Way on a Ducati, maybe on other bikes, but it is ducatis rutes and if you wanna get the full Ducati experience, you need to have a dry clutch. But thats just my opinion and you have your own.

    • @647killa
      @647killa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I beg to differ. Day clutches are lighter and have less frictional losses, due to not being doused in oil. Also, speaking of shared oil, you can separate the clutch fragments and keep the actual engine / gearbox oil much cleaner than a wet clutch system where oil MUST be changed sooner. Dry clutches are also fantastic for racing, as they work like an on / off switch. Obviously, Ducati has always applied racing tech to their motorcycles, but have since also come to terms with wet clutches, ONLY because wet-clutch motorcycles are easier to use in low speed situations with no clutch burning (daily driving). Really, since the dawn of time, manual cars have used dry clutches operated with your left foot, and they can handle a shit ton of power all day (think Hellcat, Corvette etc). Heritage is just a small bulletpoint as to why Ducati uses dry clutches. Ducati isn’t being lazy with applying tech on their motorcycles that others wouldn’t, just to play safe. It’s what makes Ducati special. All Japanese in-line-4s literally sound and perform identical, with the same wet-clutch systems and sky-high RPM fun. A Ducati is fast everywhere in the RPM range with instant torque. You don’t need to rev the piss out of it, but when you do, it’s stupid rewarding. Anyway, cars also use wet clutches in DCT applications, but you don’t control those clutches and the actually clutch packs are stupid expensive to replace. I imagine a Ducati clutch is cheaper to replace than a wet-clutch system, since there’s no oil changing involved. Just my .02 cents, but I see way too Wet vs Dry clutch and Euro vs JDM

    Displacement and horsepower are nowhere near the same thing. I dont know why people in the motorcycle world freak out about displacement, but largely ignore hp to weight ratio, and relative cost. The bike you're talking about here has about 20-30 hp more than the class leading 600. And, it is a lot more expensove than most other bikes. You really are comparing apples to oranges and gerting quite hung up on all this stuff. Why not just buy what makes you happy and go on with your day? If you want cheap performance, and you dont care what you're riding, then go for that. If you like the Ducati design and price/reliability isnt your concern, then go for that. It doesnt matter at all when you are riding around town. The only person who likely cares is you and a few other "gear geeks" who are rare IRL.

    People tend to hate on Italian bikes because of reliability, sometimes I wonder if they have ever owned one personally? While I admit I don't have a lot of experience with the older ones so I cannot speak on them, I have however owned 2 Aprilia Tuono's. My first one had a issue with the headlight lense fogging wich was quickly fixed under warranty and my current one is a 2017 which I put over 10k miles on in just the first year of ownership and it hasn't had 1 issue besides eating rear tires. I am nowhere near easy on this bike and it just continues to put a smile on face everytime I crack the throttle, between the noise of the V4 and it's ability to just lift the front wheel effortlessly all the way to 90mph in 3rd gear without having to clutch it up. I have owned Japanese sport bikes in the past and I currently have a Kawasaki z1000 also and I just don't get the same feeling when riding them as I do the Tuono.
    I say find that bike that makes you want to ride it, whether it's a Harley, an Italian beauty or Japanese bike. Whatever it may be, don't worry about others options, just go and ride the wheels off it.

    I'm guessing the real reason why you hate Ducatis is because it takes a next level mechanic to service and repair anything related to the engine. A Ducati is a hard sell for you if you pick up a used one and try to flip it, but it requires a basic tune up that usually requires a next level mechanic, a Ducati mechanic. I really think if you bought several Ducatis and just grind it through the learning process of working on these things you can make some good money because you're such a great dealership. It's just a whole other learning curve working on that desmo system.

    Pretty good video, and quite balanced if folks watch the whole thing--and I own a Ducati as my sole bike which I commute on daily.
    It's hard to hate a Ducati for very long once you ride them for a while, but yeah, many Ducatis aren't built for comfort. 😊
    That being said, you should check out the Scrambler 1100, Monster 1200, and Multistrada. They're a bit more comfortable, and I can't help but like my Scrambler 1100 more and more by the day. 😁

    Thank you for passing on your impressions, especially to people like me who don't have the opportunity to test a Ducati. If we can, however, check the level of unwanted noise that is heard in any unit that passes by on the street, or idling at a traffic light... but the surround sound that they emanate compensates I guess.

    I owned a ZX-6R and my friend had the same exact horsepower SV1000 V-Twin sportbike. And my 600 was like driving an electric motor. And I could idle in 6th grade at 20mph with no throttle and no chain lash with a passenger on the back. But my friends V-Twin had severe chain lash unless you were in a low gear and had the RPM's up. He hated driving it in traffic. What I've found is that V-Twins sound like they are going to tear out of the frame and eject a piston at high RPM. They don't sound good being revved and feel even worse at redline. Where as a 4 cylinder never protests at all no matter how low and slow you go (even idling in 6th gear and pulling a full load). My 600 inline 4 was so much more practical that I decided I would never go near a V-Twin the rest of my life. I think people buy a V-Twin without doing a side by side test drive. If you did a test drive with a 4 cylinder liquid cooled engine, you'll find the silky smooth intoxicating refinement and rush of power and low RPM electric smoothness of a 4 cylinder to be like NASA technology compared to a K-Car, which is what the V-Twin is. Why they even make a V-Twin sportbike is an absolute mystery. Making a V-Twin cruiser makes some sense. But even my low RPM ability of my 600 was far superior to any V-Twin. Being able to go 20mph to 167mph in 6th gear, without any chain lash. These things matter when you own a bike and want to use it daily.

    • @widow10rr31
      @widow10rr31 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shadow V. It’s not tho. I don’t have to explain this anymore, if anyone dosent get the point or difference between an L twin witch is usually 4 cams , fuel injected and water and fan cooled.. most V twins are air cooled , single over head cam and carburetor until 2007 in most harleys. And have huge Cc to make up for the lack of power per displacement , you can make a lot more hp out of a L twin with modern technology.

      I would agree with that comment about Harley but Ducati not so much. Overpriced and expensive are two different things and Harley's are definitely overpriced unless you feel the cost of admission into the Harley club is worth it. Ducati is giving you all the latest and greatest tech for the price you pay and thats just what it costs for the most part. Harley, your buying into the club, Ducati, your buying the latest tech which I will admit might bite you in the end.

    MotoGP bikes also have open clutches, are they behind the times as well? The need of 2 cylinder bikes for more displacement is so acknowledged that WSBK has set its rules accordingly - are they wrong? Last year the Panigale has won the BSBK championship, must be really old-school, that thing, I suppose? And about comfort... Try a 916, 996 or 998 - but do some push-ups before, otherwise you're in for a world of pain. Radical sports bikes are not comfortable, and that's ok. They're not for everyone.

    Problem with you hating Ducati's is I'm old enough to remember the 90's. Grand Prix bikes were 500cc 2 strokes that were dangerous as hell & needed an engine rebuild after every race. That was where the factory money went. Meanwhile the Supersports were 900cc 4 strokes that lasted. The Honda riders were wrestling these V4 monsters around the track, while the Ducati riders, Carl Fogerty in particular, were rounding corners with the front wheel in the air & the back tire spinning. The Honda guys deserved a lap headstart for riding those beasts, but I fell in love with the sound & beauty of the Ducati back then. Owned one myself for a few years. Got the family now, & live vicariously thru you, but it's probably old guys my age with the money to buy the Ducati's that keep them going. On the bright side, there's probably many of them out there with low miles that have never been thrashed, that have been owned by guys like me, trying to relive the past, but well aware we don't bounce like we used to!
    Safe riding, enjoy yourselves guys!
