I just wanted to leave a message for you - I've been into PC's for more than 28 years, and have built dozens of PC's (probably close to 200) - and came across this gem of a channel. You are a great communicator and obviously have the passion for PC's - and you also watch out for the consumer - ensuring people that are new to the game don't get ripped off. That's what sets you apart from others - you actually care about people spending their money wisely - please never change. Love your channel and will be watching your videos as they come up. Big kudos and warm regards from Canada - Chris.

Just did the exact same as well. I always buy the lowest bin version for this exact reason, plus I normally watercool so can usually easily hit the higher clocks on the more expensive models.
Paying for the “better” version is for fools.
Also, I apparently have one of the only RTX 3080 XC3 Black cards ever made, got lucky in the queue way back in October of 2020, ordered it, and I have only seen a couple of others in the wild since then.

My MSI RTX 3080 Ventus 3X OC has always had thermal issue with it. Even after replacing the thermal pads and thermal paste, the card can still get over 70 degrees under load. The Vram temps are much better now, but the coolers on the Ventus models absolutely suck.

Was just looking at the EVGA 3070 XC3 Black at $580, ends up being $630 at checkout with tax and shipping. In this case it actually is different from the higher end versions because it does not have a backplate. I don't care a lot about that. Do you think it's a good buy in the current market? I would like a 3060 TI for cheaper, and I can get a 3070 TI for $700, but then with tax and shipping it's much more. Any thoughts? Thanks for the great video!

Generally the coolers are better on the higher models if not wanting to water cool, the 3090TI I guess is the exception with its higher TDP. Also some don’t want to shunt mod and some models come with less power connectors other then the 3090TI.
Got the blower cooler power color 5700XT spent extra to water cool it.
Got the 3080FTW3 just added more pads etc to the backplate
Got the 3090 KPE, did the HC conversion and MP5 works
If you dont want to mod it and the power and cooler options are different then a higher model maybe a better choice for the average person. I think I would have been happy with the 5700XT Red Devil.

My guess on the no markings thing is that they only did it woth the first runs of the card. In the GN video when steve got evga on the phone, the guy said theyre only marking chips for the first run.

hi, under € 350 what is the motherboard that barricades / limits less the (high) frequencies of the DDR5 RAM? With the highest maximum frequency limit of the RAM, which supports the highest possible frequency in OC pushed DDR5 (with top-of-the-range CPU and RAM working at higher frequencies than those generally supported by the Z690 mobos, which therefore in this case could represent a limit and block / run RAM and CPU at a lower frequency than the max they could reach, unless we are talking about Asus Apex or very expensive mobos), then mobo that does not impose a frequency limit on CPU and RAM and letting them work at their high frequencies. I foresee in the future to probably put an i7-13900K (keeping the same mobo) so the only thing I need is that it is a model of mobo that lets CPU and RAM work at very high frequencies without barricading and not limiting CPU and RAM to the limit frequency of the mobo. With high max frequency limit (the one indicated by the manufacturers in the data sheets), but above all true in a real scenario, because I see that in the data sheets some models have indicated 5333MHz, others 6000MHz, but some say that all mobos with 4 DIMM / slot RAM barricade / limit all to 6400MHz (frequency of ddr5, even if these and the CPU could theoretically work in OC even at a little more than 6400MHz), hoping that this is not true, I am looking for a mobo suitable for OC pushed RAM, the goal is to try to bring even more mature ddr5 banks that I will buy in the future (with 13900k having better IMC and SA) at the highest achievable frequency, perhaps between 6500 and 7000MHz.

@@HyFlexx hi sorry i meant to respond last week. I actually just finished the build about 2 weeks ago. Had some car issues i had to take care of. But I’ve only had a few times to play with it so far. The video card is great and runs cool. I over clocked it in the traditional sense. Raised power limit and bumped up core clocks and memory. I’ve ran some benchmarks. Played several matches in call of duty 2022. It sure does draw a lot of power @291+ watts. Next i will under volt and over clock the gpu. But with my cpu i went with the i5-13600k. Upgraded from the i5-4690k. What a difference in performance. But the thermals are pretty high. I’m using the nhd15. So I’ve been racking my brain on the best way to approach the under volt and or power throttle the power cpu. I find it so stupid that mobo manufactures are setting the stock values for voltage to the max. I’ve been researching all week about the new technology that I’m unfamiliar with in comparison with my old mobo/cpu. At the same time I’m pricing out some aio coolers that way i can just over compensate for the extra heat.

Kingpin is meant for ln2. Likely would do better than the others on that cooling. Back when you could check asic quality in GPUZ it was always the high score cards that clocked like crazy on air or water but the low score (60-70) that would beat ln2 records.

It seems that as we go forward the lowest models make even more sense as with the manufacturers now jacking the power up absurd amounts to extract a very limited amount of additional performance that undervolting is now the most popular course taken by many users to the higher end card for cooler temps, less power consumption with at times a very large power decrease which only results in minimum performance loss that the higher end cards are even more irrelevant now than maybe in the past with certain models of cards.

Although, from what I know there is a 550-600ish power limit even with a shunt mod, so it’s possible to hit power limit and not be able to sustain such a clock if playing 4K in some games.

    • @taiiat0

if you're bypassing the measuring Resistors there is no limit. the Card won't know how much Power it's pulling so it can't limit itself.
that's literally the entire point of Powermodding - the Card can't stop you using more Power.

@@taiiat0 There is an unshuntable power limit on the card from what I've read on the 90FE models at 550-600W, I believe that card hits NVVDD/MSVDD current limits, but I have not done the shunt mod myself though & can't confirm. From various forms though generally everyone has hit this limit, but except maybe two people I've read...This problem also seems to be 90FE exerpience that AIBs don't hit due to being able to flash bios or different bios parameters in general.

@@MacA60230 If what this TH-camr claims are true, then he wouldn't have to contact EVGA or other manufacturers. All he would have to do is submit his findings to a reviewer that does take this seriously. It would blow up. Gamers Nexus has a reputation for holding flames to the claims for any company. How stupid do you have to be to suggest that this information wouldn't set a wildfire if it were true. 🤦‍♂️
If he wants to become relevant, then he has a lot of work to do.
