Today is my second day wearing a head covering and I'm still nervous that people who don't realize why I'm wearing it will judge me when they begin to realize that it will be a daily habit of mine. No one at my church wears them and no other Christian I know wears them. I feel like this is something God wanted me to do.

@JesusLightsYourPath How wonderful that you've started to cover your head in church! Yes, it can be uncomfortable; I have been the only one covering in my church for about 11 years. But, we can keep on pursuing obedience and find our joy in that. You may be interested in our Facebook Community Group, where you will find many ladies who also cover:

I did a study on what prophesying was so that I could be more aware of when to cover. Long story short, means to speak or teach about the Word of God or God himself. It would explode from my bones if I did not talk of HIM and give HIM praise all day, so I cover full time. And of course it covers my whispered prayers for strength all day as well.

Thanks for the encouragement!! The Lord had been putting on my heart months ago to cover my head when I was in deep prayer with Him alone. I didn't think much about wearing it any other time, or even at church. Then the Lord spoke to me about 3 weeks ago and said "step out of my comfort zone". Get up be bold, do not back down. I heard the same message 2 more times from different Believers within a week. I'm pretty introverted but the fire and passion for His Word, He put in me was lit like I have never felt in the 17 years I have been walking as Believer!! I also felt Him leading me to cover my head. As I was researching, reading the Bible and asking the Lord for confirmation. I prayed at night with my children, specifically for protection of the neighborhood we live in. I was always getting nightmares before when I would do this with my head uncovered. That night, no nightmares. Praise the Lord!! Not only that. A well respected pastor/evangelist I had always watched his sermons online. I have never seen his wife. A video came up and him and his wife were answering questions about women's roles in the church. Her head was covered and they addressed the head covering question from the audience!! The Lord reminded me of the 3 dreams he gave me about 5 years ago when I was praying about headcovering. It confirmed what He Has Been saying all these years!! Praise the Lord He is so faithful and patient 🙌

Clear Bright Light hi......as to “over” obeying, think about this. Imagine a little boy being told to bring in his bicycle by his parent. Is that parent going to be angry if he does it? What about if he also brought in his sister’s bike he found in the yard? Would his parents be angry at him for over doing it? No, even if they wanted that bike in the yard for some reason they would observe his child like behavior and understand that he was attempting to do a good thing.

So I have to say: Thank you Christy for your boldness and obedience to the Lord. I actually watched this video a couple months ago when I was first looking into head covering. But for awhile, due to how I understood the passages, I thought that our long hair was a covering. But I kept feeling the Lord gently tugging at me in the matter so I kept looking into it. I have since found a couple of wonderful videos that explained for me thow the original Greek words proved that the covering was a different thing than the covering of our natural hair. It then became solidified for me that I needed to cover when praying or prophesizing. I came back to your videos to get some encouragement. Thank you so much. ❤

Question: "Should Christian women wear head coverings?"
Answer: 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 addresses the issue of women and head coverings. The context of the entire passage of 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 is submission to the God-given order and "chain of command." A "covering" on a woman's head is used as an illustration of the order, headship, and the authority of God. The key verse of this passage is 1 Corinthians 11:3 "But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God." The implications of this verse are found in the rest of the passage. The order is: God the Father, God the Son, the man or husband, and the woman or wife. The veil or covering on the head of a believing Corinthian wife showed that she was under the authority of her husband, and therefore under submission to God.
Within this passage is also verse 10: "For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels." Why is that important to angels? The relationship of God with men is something that angels watch and learn from (1 Peter 1:12). Therefore, a woman's submission to God's delegated authority over her is an example to angels. The holy angels, who are in perfect and total submission to God, expect that we, as followers of Christ, be the same.
This covering not only means a cloth but also can refer to a woman's hair length. How can we say that? We must take this verse in the context or the setting in which it is presented. "Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering" (1 Corinthians 11:14-15). Therefore, in the context of this passage, a woman who is wearing her hair longer marks herself out distinctively as a woman and not a man. The Apostle Paul is saying here that in the Corinthian culture, when a wife's hair was longer than her husband's, it showed her submission to his headship. The roles of the male and female are designed by God to portray a profound spiritual lesson, that is of submission to the will and the order of God.
But why is hair an issue in this passage? The apostle Paul is addressing an issue related to the Corinthian culture that was being allowed to disrupt the church. For a woman to have a shaved head was a disgrace (and, in Jewish thinking, a sign of mourning, Deuteronomy 21:12). Her hair was her “glory” (1 Corinthians 11:15). In the Corinthian culture, women normally wore a head covering as a symbol of their submission to their husbands. Paul affirms the rightness of following that cultural mandate-to dispense with the head coverings on women would send the entirely wrong signal to the culture at large. In fact, Paul says that, if a Christian woman refuses her head covering, she might as well shave her hair off, too (verse 6). A woman who refused to wear a covering in that culture was basically saying, “I refuse to submit to God’s order.” Therefore, the apostle Paul is teaching the Corinthians that hair length or the wearing of a “covering” by the woman was an outward indication of a heart attitude of submission to God and to His established authority.
God's order is that the husband is the head of the wife as God is the head of Christ, but there is no inequality or inferiority implied. God and Christ are equal and united, just as the husband and the wife are one. This is not a passage that teaches the woman is inferior to man or that she should be submissive to every man. It is teaching God's order and spiritual headship in the marriage relationship. In the Corinthian culture, a woman who covered her head during worship or when she was in public displayed her submission to authority.
In today's culture, we no longer view a woman's wearing of a head covering as a sign of submission. In most modern societies, scarves and hats are fashion accessories. A woman has the choice to wear a head covering if she views it as a sign of her submission to the authority of her husband. However, it is a personal choice and not something that should be used to judge spirituality. The real issue here is the heart attitude of obedience to God's authority and submission to His established order “as to the LORD” (Ephesians 5:22). God is far more concerned with an attitude of submission than an outward display of submission via a head covering. First Timothy 2:9-10, "I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God."

Be careful that you don’t misinterpret the word kaphale. It cannot mean authority. because all authority was given Jesus Christ in heaven and earth. @dkjems 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lyssalouise2705 Whatever Kaphale means
as it applies to women, it must mean the exact same thing as it applies to Christ. I’m going to answer your question with a question. If God is the “head” of Christ (as it says in the same verse) then how is it that Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth? How is it that Christ is given all judgment? How can Christ be Almighty God as it says in Isaiah and God still have authority (headship) over Him right now even after the resurrection. Kaphale cannot mean headship. It can only mean head as in originator.

It is rare for the Bible to self-interpret but this passage does. You’re right, this is a New Testament teaching. Some call covering a form of legalism when it’s *truly a simple obedience to a New Testament teaching.* The second 1/2 of this chapter is read in church and obeyed very carefully. The passage itself gives 3 reasons to cover in addition to the natural. The headship order you mentioned; God, Jesus, Man, Woman. Secondly, the order of creation is cited by Paul. First man, then woman. And, the 3rd reason, you also mentioned, is because of the angels and that Greek word can mean any kind of angel. Some people think the long hair is “the” covering but a completely different Greek word was used (katakalupto vs peribolian, which means vest or mantle) and rules out that idea. Others think that it was cultural but Corinth was not a head covering location. Paul was giving them a NEW teaching. He was strongly teaching men to uncover their heads when praying and prophesying. Plus, we can’t remove and restore our hair every time we pray. God, in His wisdom and might could very easily have omitted this teaching from this letter thus making it so that you and I would not have to cover our heads. Why would God overlook that? He wouldn’t. Also, believers in South America and Asia are covering to this day whereas western culture gave up covering in the 1960’s. Similar to when the Israelites lost the Law and the kings stopped reading it-that doesn’t make it right-God instructed the kings to read the Law annually during that time. Our society has stopped wearing a head covering and as a coverer for 30 years I find that most of us come to this teaching in private Bible reading at home. For me, I read it and then set out to figure out why I didn’t need to cover. But weeks of Greek study showed me I couldn’t find a loophole. I couldn’t get out of it. I could write about this topic all day but allow me to thank you for making this video. I hope it blesses many families.

Yes I agree! I was talking to my mom about covering my head and she just shook her head and called my legalistic! It’s pretty insulting because I never looked at it as a law or strict rule I must follow. I looked at it as a sign of obedience and love towards God and to men. I think modern Christians who are being convicted on this, have not grasped the true reason. It shouldn't be because of the writings Paul has given at all. There are many many who are being convicted, and they see Biblical reason in Corinthians. But. I have been praying about it, and wondering, and I have come to believe the real reason, has to do with being the betrothed bride of Jesus. If you look into the traditional betrothal process of Jewish customs, you would see, many similarities to what Jesus has done for us. (Such as a price or dowry determined by the Father. (His Blood, paid the ransom for His bride - the church) - then we see a traditional marriage covenant, of sharing wine.. (This was symbolized by the Last Supper) - The Bride-Groom would also give his wife a gift before he left. (We have been given the Holy Spirit) - After this, the Bride-Groom leaves, and goes to prepare a place for his bride. Although, they are considered married, they have not consummated their marriage, nor will they be together now for 1-2 years. (Immediately after Jesus sacrifice, and appearing, He went to His Father's house to prepare a place for us.. and He told His disciples this was what was to happen) - While the Bride-groom is away, the Bride will be cleansed with immersian (Baptism) and make herself ready for her husband, when he comes. She will also begin wearing a headcovering, this symbolizes that she is married, and that others should not bother her, while she waits for her husband to come and take her to His Father's house. Christians who wear head coverings, I feel, are saying, they are Jesus' bride, and they are sanctified and "holy" (as the Jewish custom teaches) while they anxiously wait for their husband. - There are other aspects to this teaching as well, including the "taking of the bride in the night" .. and the "10 virgins parable" also relates. But. I think this is the true reason that God is calling out and convicting so many women in these last days. I encourage anyone reading this, to look into the Jewish Marriage Betrothal process, and how it relates to what Jesus has done and promised.. I promise you will see the connections and be even more shocked and amazed at the divine details our Heavenly Father has place within His word. Here are a couple videos I would recommend watching to get the full teaching. May God bless you! th-cam.com/video/epzJiU1N-6s/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/d07pvJAdjsM/w-d-xo.html

I laughed and took that as conformation that I should look into it and try it out.

I agree that if its Biblical, it is right BUT since Christ came, died and raised, we are free from the law (this doesn’t mean we shouldn’t stick close to it), but we do have Christian liberty. I strongly believe based on my own walk with the Lord, He is not going to give us all EVERY change at once. He is going to work with each of His children differently based on what He knows of our hearts and what He desires to work on in whatever order. Example: I was convicted to not listen to secular music at a time my friend who is also a christian did not feel that same conviction. Although i can easily say “she shouldn’t be listening to that music”, it is not my job to convict. The Holy Spirit was clearly working on her in other areas while she was facing marital issues. That being said....i am now looking into head coverings bc of my convictions. I feel the Lord is showing me something and I as a willing servant want to test it with scripture as He tells us to along with prayer. If this change is to happen in my life, it would be wrong of me to say others should follow me. Bc its what i was convicted of. God knows my heart and my struggles and they may not be the same as my sisters in Christ. BUT if i were to be asked, i would give my honest experience and knowledge of the scriptures. We should be cautious of our own attitudes toward what should or shouldn’t be happening. This is where legalism begins and people get pushed away from the faith. A lost person could miss out on the message that our faith is a RELATIONSHIP not a RELIGION. I see a few comments already that scare me, seeing some people might be missing the point. Don’t be lead by traditions (this was also what Jesus warns of) but by opening your heart to hear God speak to you personally and work in your heart in a way only He can. And I pray that all believers seek to grow closer to Him everyday. May God bless you all.

Is the path so narrow because the temptations, culture, politics, agendas and the dark energy of being of the world consumes most people? Likewise when women cover their hair, they are not trying to ensure their hair is not seen but to symbolize that they are under headship.

It’s not so true today, but men used to wear hats that were associated with their status or profession, so removing their hats or headcover was humbling in a way. Those verses seem to be a bigger change for men than for women as women often wore veils or head coverings. Jewish men were supposed to pray with their heads covered with prayer shawls etc. I thought, when I first read those verses, that it was such a striking change for men from the Old Testament to the New Testament, but not so much for women.

8 And he who is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes and shave off all his hair and bathe himself in water, and he shall be clean. And after that he may come into the camp, but live outside his tent seven days. And on the seventh day he shall shave off all his hair from his head, his beard, and his eyebrows. He shall shave off all his hair, and then he shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and he shall be clean.)
Now,they were already cleaned, they only needed a washed (Here is the reference:
      Exodus 40
30He set the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing, with which Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet. When they went into the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed, as the Lord commanded Moses.)
This was the preparation fo the communion with his body and blood (Let's remember as is said in the letters from the apostles that we should be conscious about the discerment of His body, Holy, pure, innocent, sinless paralel to was entering in the temple in our Gods presence and droping death so is the one that has communion with our Lord and dosn't know that He is the clean one and that we must wash (now that we know physically and in our hearts)before being so close to him ( (Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.)
This is to be done in His remembrance at the set time given by our Lord at passover.

Over obeying came up in a prior comment. Years ago I made a little analogy about “over” obeying, think about this. Imagine a little boy being told to bring in his bicycle, from the yard, by his parent. Is that parent going to be angry if he does it? What about if he also brought in his sister’s bike he found in the yard? Would his parents be angry at him for over doing it? No, even if they wanted that bike in the yard for some reason they would observe his child-like behavior and understand that he was attempting to do a good thing. Thank you!

True, but that’s taken out of context. The context of 1 Corinthians 11 was authority- when Paul says “because of the angels” it’s to be like the angels, as they are made to worship and serve God at all times. Another words, God has authority over the angels (as He as authority over all) and woman should follow that by using a symbol- the headcovering. :)

Holy Spirit = Hagios Pneuma, Holy Breath of God, there is no Trinity in the Bible, the Disciples Baptized in the "Name" of "Jesus".

      22. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
      23. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body.

      4. That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
      5. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. .

      34. Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
      35. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
      36. What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
      37. If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD... .
      .
      1 Corinthians 11
. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
      4. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
      5. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
      6. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
      7. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

God the Father is not above Jesus Christ. Kaphale means that the a Father is the originator of Jesus. You will have to look up what that means because it’s very complicated. Jesus Christ is fully God. He had no beginning. However when you state that kaphale means head as in authority, you are stating a false teaching about Jesus because all authority was given to Him and all judgement. It sounds like you’re a subordinationist. That will lead you to a wrong understanding of the Trinity. Look at the book of Revelation and you will see the unveiling of Jesus Christ. I am not against submission to one’s husband. I have stayed in the home and reared our two children, home Schooled them and also worked from home taking care of other children (for 19 years). I have cleaned, cooked, managed the finances and maintained the home. I have done what my husband has asked from me for the most part (except when I have sinned) but I know that this doctrine of subordinationism) is from a demon. I believe that we all have to understand what the word Kaphale (Head) means. I believe that the mistranslation of this word has caused so much oppression of women. There should be a mutual respect and oneness in marriage that is similar to that which takes place in the Trinity. If you look at the Arian controversy, you will see that at that time Arius tried to demote Christ as a lesser God. This is a serious doctrinal error. This is where this (headship doctrine goes ontologically and in all ways). The only reason I was watching your video is because I was considering wearing a head covering just to show respect and honor to my Lord and to my husband. However, Jesus Christ is my head and He needs to be yours too. You are to submit to your husband as unto Jesus Christ. If those two things are not in agreement you must submit to Jesus. Of course, ultimately Christ is concerned about what we know and understand about Him and not necessarily what we wear on our head. But if what we wear on our head helps us to understand who Jesus Christ is better, and that is our motive, then go ahead and do it but also be careful you don’t stumble your sisters in Christ who are weaker and might misunderstand.

Hi DK, our definition of Greek words should come from lexicons that are built off NT usage as well as other documents from that era. Wayne Grudem has done a lot of good working defending the definition of "authority/headship" as opposed to "source". You can read one of his articles on that here: www.waynegrudem.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/does-kephale-mean-head-or-authority-over.pdf

    • @dkjems
      @dkjems 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I do not respect Wayne Grutem’s work. He is not a complementarian although he may say he is. He’s a local seminary prof at a seminary near us and I’ve met many of his (not Christ’s) disciples. He is a subordinationist. I know because that is exactly the fruit of his disciples at the church where I worked at for two years who espoused the doctrine taken out of context about women not speaking in church and about headship (which isn’t even a biblical word) that Grudem drives in with a sledge hammer. The women were severely abused at this church especially the single women. They were mentally and emotionally broken by their authoritarian husbands, leaders and elders. I was verbally and emotionally abused as well working there at that church; the emotional turmoil that I experienced from working for the elder I was under nearly drove me to a mental break down and I had to take a lot of sick days unpaid because of all the physical stress I was under. Be careful that you do not believe what people write down on paper, you need to look for the fruit of the lives of these people who preach what they preach. This was a very well-known church. In fact, it has a seminary and a college associated with the man (not Christ) who built it. They now actually preach that you can still be saved after you take the mark of the beast. They have really lost their spiritual and biblical minds and their hearts are now quite hard. This and Calvinism are the doctrines that destroyed them I’m quite sure.

I respect her a lot for wanting to wear a headcover in order to follow God's word. However, i find the difference between the meaning of Islamic and Christian head coverings very interesting. In Christianity, it symbolizes man's superiority over women. And in Islam, it symbolizes woman's rightful ownership over herself. I find headcoverings in Christianity degrading towards women and in Islam gives the woman very high dignity and high respect for the woman

    • @headcovering
      @headcovering  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hi Marie, we absolutely do not teach that head covering symbolizes "man's superiority over women." Complementarians (like us) teach that both men and women are equals. Different gender roles (which the symbol points to) doesn't affect value/worth in the same way a police officer is not superior to the citizen though he has an authority the citizen does not have.

@@headcoveringaww, you are so sweet to reply 🌷🌷🌷 I am not aware of the complementarian denomination. Do all women wear headcoverings with this group? (Like the orthodox Mennonites?) Your view is far more favorable but as far as I am aware the original biblical teaching on headcoverings (1 Corinthians 11) teaches man's superiority over women like Christ is superior over man and God over Christ. But as i said, i have a lot of respect for women who want to show their faith visibly (i wear the hijab Islamic headscarf). It has a lot of inner beauty that reflects the heart of the person with their desire to follow God. I have a high respect for headcoverings of different faiths 🌷🌷🌷

Marie Khalaf I was saddened by that too at first! I actually cried and wondered why God loved me less because I was a woman and should be seen and not heard. But that’s not true at all! We cover, symbolically that husbands are our heads, and for single woman God alone is their head. But that doesn’t mean the husband should be abusive to their wives! All over the Bible we see men must love their wives! In Song Of Solomon, we see love expressed! In Esther, we see how much the king loved her and was willing to give her whatever she desired. In the New Testament, when Joseph wanted to divorce Mary because he thought she was pregnant because of sinful reasons, he wanted to send her off quietly to not disgrace her. In several of Paul’s epistles, we see that men are too love their wives and treat them with respect! It’s a two way street!

It caused enough if a stir that Augustus had to make new laws! Look it up guys. Look up what Hyppocrates (remember him, b the FATHER OF MEDICINE) thought about the function of hair and why it was important for women to have long hair and men short. He was the leading authority on anatomy and all the body members' functions so Paul certainly wouldn't have known better. He was a world-class Bible scholar but not a Dr. Hyppocrates' views may explain why head coverings were a thing for women at all. Seriously, look it up!

Oh my we are saved by Grace through Faith in Christ alobe not by any custom works? The whole passage reflects a cultural custom that has no relevance today. The veil is local customary headgear; the uncovering of the head reflects a local sign of prostitution. The sign of the woman subordinating herself to the man is a Jewish custom that is outmoded in light of the overall teaching of the New Testament. Since we live in a different culture, it is no longer necessary for a woman to cover her head with a veil; it is no longer necessary for a woman to cover her head with anything; it is no longer necessary for a woman to be subordinate to a man.

Mahmoud alnashar you comment is ignorant. The Christian Headcovering can show hair and can be of multiple styles and doesn't need to cover our faces. Plus Islam is a false religiong who's prophet stole stories from the real propbets of GOD but twisted the TRUTH.. Judaism and Christianity are the Same religion when speaking of the Messianic community. If you want to love the one true GOD you haven't found him yet allah is a false god. Muhammad was an evil man who followed many people. He was immoral and not like Any of GODS real prophets who performed miracles and prophesied things that muhammad copied and twisted. Study the prophets and you will see the truth! That is why Islam is not respected. Even Muhammad himself was friends with the Jews and traded with them and did not begin hating them until they would not except his evil teachings or serve the god of this world as he did. When the Jews and Christians rejected him he in turn began calling them infidels and began persecuting GOD'S people! History has all this recorded study it and see. But you probably won't because Islam tells you to never question it. Because its founder even knew he was no prophet and it would be discovered to be a huge fraud and a twisted knock off of the ONE TEUE Faith that does worship GOD. And Muslims try to decieve Some Cbristians saying we serve the same god Yet it is written in your own unholy book that you do not worship what we worship and that your god is not our god. People are waking up and MANY muslims are learning the truth and converting to Christianity daily because they have a desire to serve the ONE TRUE GOD. The god of this world is satan and it is written that he comes to LIE, KILL & DESTROY and if you honestly consider the teachings of Islam. Those 3 things are exactly what Islam teaches it's followers to do..

It's impossible to change the Bible Mima. We'd really encourage you to think through how you change a decentralized text that spread quickly to many different parts of the world in many languages. How can you change a text when you can compare manuscripts? Manipulation is only possible if the Bible is under the control of a singular authority and all other transcripts are destroyed. That's the history of the Qur'an, not the Bible.

@@headcovering LOL! Well isn't that a balanced, objective perspective. The fact that you honestly think that a text such as the bible is excluded from the possibility of IMMENSE manipulation is actually hilarious. Some of the world's most respected theologians have confirmed that it is nay impossible that the bible has not be altered since it's origin. I would also argue that a Christian should not immediately seek to discredit other religious texts in order to try and prove a point, it just makes your argument even more flimsy than it already is.
