Hi Sue! One thing about the damage to the area, is that Paris took many bombings during the German occupation, so it isn't vandals who did damage, but the bombs! I could make out some shrapnel damage to some of the structures. I looked up the domed Mausoleum and found one small photo of the interior, and it looked magnificent! The Mausoleum with the woman guarding the door, there are stairs going down to the lower level, and the floor is glass blocks to allow light to get down there too! Such a huge and historic cemetery! It could take years to see it all!
thanks for that! also, a thing i think happened which confuses young metal detectorists finding droplets of aluminum scattered across fields in Europe....the stock footage that's been used ad nauseum in film and television, most notably 12 O'clock High is of a B17 going down burning, melting. the deaths of an aircrew have cycled for years as entertainment.
@@fionagreenwood3231 There are so many things to see, and once you start seeing some of it, you will want to stop and learn more about the things you are seeing, and it all adds up in time, that you really need so much time, that it could take many lifetimes to learn all you get interested in, so you have to get selective in what you want to learn about! Once I started to learn about teaching myself about what interested me, it overwhelmed me as a young man, that I was very depressed, until I met an old man who knew what I was struggling with, that he was able to show me how to filter all of the things I was interested in, into things that would benefit what I had as a life goal, which really helped me to trim the interests down to a few that made it manageable. So I have had a very interesting time going through life, and even when things went 'wrong', like being fired from a job of 36 years, I did not feel loss, but I was able to transition into a new life, without any feelings of loss or bitterness. I am doing new things, and the person who fired me is struggling with the loss! And I am using the lessons of life to continue learning new things!
It's so sad when these get so old they begin to crumble and when they get vandalized. But beautiful cemetery and most definitely beautiful stained glass windows.
Never ceases to amaze me how some of these mausoleums were built in years past, great video sue safe travels to you and GV,god bless from ballarat in Oz,👏👏👋🙏🙏👍🇦🇺
Wow!! This cemetery is literally a city for the dead!! What an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING place!! Thank you for showing it to us in such depth, Sue and GV!! XXXX ❤👍🤗💞👏👏
Simply amazing to see and walk through. It is so big it never gets old! My favorite part are the thousands of mini-masoleums; you can rarely find a duplicate. I think the French have it over everyone else, they have such class. XO ♥️🙏
The sculptures are just magnificent! The pin point details are superb, but to have your spot reserved? Guess that’s one way to make sure to be put there. Tc and stay safe always.
My favorite Oscar Wilde quote is: "It is better to be talked about, then not talked about at all." This is my new favorite cemetery even though I have never been there.
At the entrance of the Lagarde - Gueret family vault, there is a hooded female gatekeeper who guards the tomb. The glazed sculpture and gate are one which swings open inwards. Inside a small spiral staircase leads to the family vault below. That is where you saw the drop on the left side when you looked inside.
Impressive cemetery, these monuments and mausoleums are beautiful. That one mausoleum, I think the lower section where the remains are collapsed on itself. That is sad to see. That one huge mausoleum with the steps going up to the doors, I would love to see the inside. Great walking tour Sue, thank you very much. Take care. 😊
It’s amazing the different designs of each of these mausoleum’s. This place is huge! Thank you for letting us see how many beautiful places there are in this world 🙏
Watching again. Like you said it would take video after video to cover it all. I do find it very exquisite elegant and crowded. I really enjoyed the visit and walk again. Blessings to you you guys.❤😊❤😊
Hi Sue! Could you explain in a video…..? I would love to know….what is a crypt versus vault? Where the bodies are in these slim looking mausoleums? I get confused over the different designs and their names and functions…. I understand the ones in NewOrleans USA but not so much these ones in Europe….thank you!
Not much difference really, a vault goes deep under ground for family, crypt is really very similar. In the mausoleums here, the bodies are underground
Not sure I've heard of a waiting list to buried in a certain place. I was looking at your merch. Can you tell me what/who the Morty merch is. Thank you 😊
Wish I would have gone there when I was in Paris. We to many in New Orleans though. It's below sea level so all the Graves are above ground. During Catarina hurricane many were destroyed. With Bait royal coffinsfloting away.😢
My Dad was in WWII and he mention the beautiful cemeterys' and the beautiful cathedral s in Germany...he was worried with all the bombings by Allies and Germany the destruction
Thank you for the most interesting story of this poor young woman. Hoping she will be at rest soon... Seems like she was out and about when her visage was witnessed along with that of her mother. I'm from Tubac, Az. Have a good winter and spring to follow. 😊
My dearest friend, Sue❤ I love it here. The land for the cemetery was given to the people of all denominations by Napoleon Bonaparte. Many famous souls are interred here. The grave of Oscar Wilde is covered with plastic/glass to prevent desecration by admirers ♥️. I have visited so very many times and the musicians graves are exquisite. I send you all my love and wish you holy joy 😇😇 xx
You should travel to Genoa in Italy where one of the largest and most spectacular cemeteries in the world is located - the Staglieno cimitero monumentale - the statues in that cemetery ARE TO DIE FOR !!! Pun intended!Particularly beautiful is the one of an young angel which even appeared on the cover of a music album!
I wonder about the Mausaleums and tombs, etc with bad damage , roped off, if no funds left to fix them, who pays for the repair. There must be quite a few and more coming up???

If there's a vault that you're entitled to be buried in, I'd imagine you still have to pay something towards it and probably a fee to keep your body in there
