    a lovely tour of Père Lachaise. I've been a few times myself but you can never ever see everything and I made a few discoveries thanks to you. Many, many thanks my friend - you're doing a great job for your English speaking friends!
    And congratulations to your second baby-girl.....

    Beautiful tour, thank you. I was there in 2016 - and visited Heloise & Abelard, and Edith Piaf's Grave. BTW, Oscar Wilde's tomb has glass coverage because people are constantly kissing the stone which will then need to be cleaned. I would love to come on one of your tours next time I am in Paris

    I toured this cemetery in 2016 and will return again this year. I enjoyed this video very much...good memories. The Passy Cemetery (near Eiffel Tower) is worth a visit , too. There you will find graves of Debussy, Gabriel Faure.. and others. Again, thanks for sharing.

    Thank you for another well-done video. Jim Morrison was buried in a cheap veneered coffin, costing his girlfriend a paltry 366 FF. Two shield markers (with Jim's surname miss-spelled "MORISSON" were placed on the grave in 1971 & 1972; both were stolen. On Jul 2/81 a white bust was installed; The Doors visited the grave on the day after, the 10th anniversary of Jim's death. The bust took an awful beating from so-called fans & was in bad shape when it too was stolen, in 1988. In 1991 Jim's parents put up a stone monument bearing the Greek saying "KATA TON DAIMONA EAYTOY", which is open to two interpretations, TO THE DIVINE SPIRIT WITHIN HIMSELF (Old Greek), or more appropriately, HE CAUSED HIS OWN DEMONS (New Greek).

    I'm planning a trip to Paris for 2022 and this will be definitely on my list of places too visit. My question is, if there is a gate around Jim Morrison's grave (to prevent trespassers), how are there flowers and gifts left there? I didn't think you were allowed too leave things? If someone knows please let me know. Thanks.

    • @afrenchfryeinparis
      @afrenchfryeinparis  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dan, thanks for watching. In my tours I always aim to distinguish historical fact from legend. When I tell a story that isn’t provable, I try to be clear that it’s a legend and an interesting story, nothing more. I didn’t invent the Dracula/Père Lachaise legend - other guides, authors, bloggers, etc. have shared this idea including Jacques Sirgent who owns the Vampire Museum of Paris and is considered an expert in vampire lore. That doesn’t mean the story is true; it only means that it’s an interesting piece of the cemetery’s overall character. Paris is full of unproven legends that tour guides talk about every day (Man in the Iron Mask, treasure of the Knights Templar, secret assassinations, lovers of Marie Antoinette, etc). As long as these stories aren’t presented as historical fact, I think they’re a wonderful part of the intrigue of Paris. Have a great day!
