      Picard liked Earl Grey, Sisko Raktajino, Janeway black coffee. We never knew what Kirk and Spock had for a hot beverage.

      Me too for me Janeway made the show and Kate Mulgrew as Janeway. I can’t imagine anyone else in the role. She was better than Picard or character, even though Patrick Stewart really tried to bring quite a bit of gravitas to it. She was always better than that, her character was also always better than that… Tim Russ as Tuvok is the only true Vulcan character he plays the Vulcan character better than anyone. I’ve seen play Vulcan and yes even better than Leonard Nimoy but then again, Leonard Nimmo‘s character was never holy Vulcan to begin with. I’m sorry I’m using voice to text. It doesn’t write things down the way I would like to. I hope you can make heads or tails of this. It may say I edited it, but I didn’t. I just added something so that my comment would make sense and I agree she is the best of all of them. I did like Deep Space 9 however I found it very chauvinistic in so many ways and I found the same thing to some degree on Voyager, but it was to be expected considering that one of the show runners, one of the guys in charge was known to be a male chauvinist pig and a racist to boot.

    She seems as humble as rumored. Though I’ve never heard anyone in the industry...say she was anything other than “difficult” to work with would be putting it kindly, no 1 knocks her acting talent. I’m very glad I never had the chance to work with her, and just enjoyed the series. Playing a liberal was pure acting, too. I loved that character, and I loved the series. It was fun.
    I’m glad I was never the type to ask for an autograph after a show in NYC; I’m not a huge fan of actors in that capacity...probably b/c I grew up doing theatre and naturally associate it with work.
    That being said, this is one talent I’m glad I just saw in a series I liked as a kid. Damn.
    I was a Star Trek fan as a kid, but oddly out of all of them Voyager was my fav...especially after Jeri Ryan was added to show. Who doesn’t like Borg story line? And Ryan and Mulgrew were pretty top notch actors.
    I mean sure...I loved Stewart and Spiner on TNG, but I’d much rather watch hawt women who were just as good if not better.
    I went to see Mulgrew on the boards in the city, but really couldn’t tell if she could act. The script was wretchedly uneven. The men had fantastic monologues, but the women were not as lucky. My friend had worked with her a couple of times...so I asked if she could act...”Oh, yeah, she can act. She’s great. But she’s a (expletive filled).” My friend worked with A listers all the time. Kate wasn’t anywhere near A lister at that time. Voyager had been off the air for a decade (not that, that sort of thing mattered) ...I had just never heard her say anything negative about talent. She was usually pretty classy, and just would say nothing rather than say something negative about talent. I was kinda shocked. I guess she didn’t care for the way she treated her fellow talent or her Star Trek “fans” who came up for autographs after the show. It was a different show in NYC. My friend didn’t take to kindly to whatever she saw, not that she was a sci-fi fan...but she assumed some people came to the show because the were fans of Mulgrew’s from Star Trek. My friend would have been in a position of authority...so I’m sure that was pleasant. She usually was the great defender of the actor...so I always wondered how that convo went. Of course, this was not pro-offered. In fact, if I hadn’t been asking about Mulgrew in the capacity of a producer...she would have never said anything. NYC is a microcosm of the entire theatre industry. If you have a good script and you want to look at types you start hitting agents, managers, anyone and everyone who is the right type. Before you go hit up an EP you’ll shop it around to the right talent...but you didn’t come here for a lecture on NYC seed money...Besides...some ape nearly killed me in a hate crime so I got waylaid...
    I was there 15 years ago when my friend took her first call from Oprah...
    She doesn’t generally diss talent. To be fair, she didn’t knock her acting...and that’s why I’m glad I never met Mulgrew. Her rep is kind of infamous...in general.
    So why write all this down? I’m just some playwright no1 has ever heard of that’s not connected to anything...
    But I know few that have left a lasting impression that Mulgrew has.
    But as much as no1 likes her...she can act. Glad I never met her. Glad I never worked with her. Glad I never will.
    Liked her work on a TV show a long time ago. Made me smile. She’s jacked up more people than Uta and tons of acting coaches. It’s just impressive. Seriously. I haven’t seen the latest ST show, but I have a friend on it...I will watch it. Well, stream it. But Mulgrew...damn...
    F$ck it. Buy her book. I think I will.
    Born with Teeth...
    I’m sure she bites. Never met her. But, I’m buying the damn book. Hey, she was a nutball conservative (well back then...it would rate like a 2 on a scale of 1-10 now). But that would have taking some acting to pull of Janeway. She’s so pissed in this interview...
    Like everyone in the industry didn’t work 18 hour days. It’s the business.
    You go girl...sorry, woman...I’ve heard you roar.
    You might be a stone cold bitch. But, yeah, everyone without fail, says you’ve got acting chops for days.
    I’ve been a ghost for everyone on social media...I know this that and the other...
    Glad this chick was Janeway, Glad we never crossed paths, and she’s probably worth a read:)

      @@gjd1942 Well, maybe she didn't like the fact that a woman must be in a tight-fitting costume in which she casts so that the young men can drool. Maybe she didn't like Braga being a sexist and Jeri slept with him. Her character promoted sexism. And thanks to her strengths, and now I'm not talking about fasting, most actors had nothing to play. Maybe she didn't like Jennifer Lien leaving. She simply protested against sexism in the workplace. And Braga didn't even hide his sexist views. I noticed that Jeri said Kate would attack her, only that it was hard to work with her. Garet complained that he had a hard time enduring it then. I didn't notice any of the other actors complaining, except Jeri and the weeping Garett. It doesn't change the fact that Janeway is a fascinating character, and Kate Mulgrew played her perfectly. I like the Seven, but I sincerely hope that because of my work, I won't have to dress in something so humiliating. It was like bait

    If I ever got the opportunity to meet the cast of Voyager, I would want to thank them for all the hard work they put in to contribute to the universe of Star Trek, and that despite how much Voyager is maligned as the worst Star Trek Series, it still holds a special place in my heart to this day. Hell, Voyager was what got me interested in science as a kid. Without Voyager, I probably would never have watched the rest of the Star Trek series. I don't blame the cast members for anything bad to come out of voyager. Instead, I blame the writers and producers. Rick Berman, I'm looking at you.

      Voyager and TNG were my fav ST series. I honestly don't get why some people dislike voyager. I think they just don't realise TNG, DS9 and VOY are different genres. They dislike the genre and blame the series.

    • @mulder19x95
      @mulder19x95 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Baluvideo I don't think people liked the change in ship. I wouldn't say that it's not popular or that it's the worst because there are tons of books still being released for Voyager that take place after the series end (I'm starting up "A Pocket Full Of Lies" soon which came out last month). I think it's that people didn't like the fact that it was a different ship, different class, and a different sort of mission. Star Trek with the exception of DS9 has always been a five year mission with Enterprise and I don't think some people liked that it changed with Voyager. I will say that it was popular because it lasted just as long as TNG did which was 7 seasons. Voyager is by far my favorite ST series and to be honest I think there is a group of trekkies just like with any series (Star Wars, DW, etc) that you will never please. It's sort of like Star Wars with the new films. Basically all they did (no spoilers if you haven't seen it) is they remade a New Hope and a whole bunch of people hated it, well Lucas did his own original idea with the prequels and people hated that. No matter what you do within a series that has a strong fanbase like Star Trek or Star Wars; there will always be a group of people who dislike it simply because it's new. All of the Star Trek series have been good except Enterprise. Enterprise is the greatest example of "trying too hard" I have ever seen. Enterprise tried so hard to bring Star Trek out of the future and closer to our reach (just look at the intro which showed space shuttles and rovers) and it failed. To add a bit of salt to the wound the captain was just immensely unlikeable. So I don't think Voyager is massively disliked I just think it's a small amount of "purists" who felt Star Trek should've never changed, but the books that are still being written and released by Kirsten Beyer prove that people still love Voyager.

    • @baluvideo
      @baluvideo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @mulder19x95
      @mulder19x95 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Baluvideo Yeah there are tons! It's released by Pocket Books (you can find them at Barnes And Noble they aren't hard to find or pick them up on Amazon for like 3 bucks each) and they started back in 2003 and they are the adventures of the Voyager after the end of the series so Janeway is now Admiral and Chakotay is now Captain of the USS Voyager. The cool thing is that you don't really need to read them in order to understand them since they sort of give you synopsis within conversations in the book. I'm sort of new to being a Trekkie in all honesty. I actually hated Star Trek as a kid (mainly because I didn't understand it, it was too technical for a 10 year old) and made fun of it. Well now that i'm 21 I watch all of them and realize what an idiot I was because they are so cool. I just recently got back into Voyager which I always sort of liked and I love it now absolutely love and adore it. Well on a trip to Barnes and Noble I found out they started continuing the Voyager timeline way back in 2003 and they still are releasing books. Like I said Kirsten Beyer just wrote and released a new one this year! So definitely pick some up they are really good and they are very well written.

    Kate Mulgrew had every right to be proud, her work was awesome as the first female Captain of a Federation Star Ship. You would be surprised, since I'm up here in Alaska with Fishermen, Rough Necks, Miners... I'd ask them who their favorite Star Trek Captain is and most of them said Captain Janeway! More guys, more macho guys than women! I can only guess that Alaska men love women who can take care of business, "Here dear, here's the shotgun, going on the slope for 6 months, don't let let that pesky brown bear eat our dogs, or the children." I know one thing, Alaska men really have a thing for Captain Janeway. LOL

    Kate Mulgrew, thank you for that hard work. Star Trek needed a strong / smart female to be captain of a starship and you delivered 10 fold. Voyager exceeded my expectations and you were the biggest part of how I felt about the series. Excellent writing by the way. This, coming from a guy who grew up on the original series.
    I had ties to the new Star Trek film's producers and directors but, unfortunately, that evaporated 'beyond' (no pun intended) my control. I had a concept for a thriller that incorporated, Captains Archer, Kirk and Janeway into one film. Maybe some day.

    this woman carried the show on her own. The writers gave her an inconsistent character and her charisma alone turned it into an epic, compelling leader.

      She did NOT carry it on her own. She was a part of an INCREDIBLE ensemble of actors.

      @@1978rharris fair, let me rephrase: from my point of view she carried the show on her own and was a much better actor than the rt, except maybe the doctor, even if Ihave nothing against the others. Mileages may vary, but for me and my circle she was the only one that kept our attention consistently. Better?

    Great actor. "Actress" is an antiquated term. An "actress" is an actor who gets paid less. She's an ACTOR. And a damn good one at that. Her contribution to the "Voyager" series can't be overstated. She was incredible!

    • @aurex8937

      Well, no. An actor is male, an actress is female. Wage gap is a myth. We really don't need more social justice in Star Trek.
      Also, she's probably the worst possible choice for the role. Awful actress.

    Everytime I see her in interviews or videos at conventions I always feel like I really would like her as a person and enjoy her company. She seems like such an honest and stoutly forthright person, with a genuine passion for what she does.
    This clip just reinforces how much of an amazing hard working person she really is. Working that many hours, getting up at stupid o'clock every day and for that many years ALL whilst raising and providing for her own family... really is inspirational to hear 🙂

    While I admire her spirit, I think it's a real shame that she *had* to work 18 hour days every day. I wouldn't have minded Star Trek Voyager ending 6 months later than originally intended if it meant having the cast and crew having reasonable hours for the rest of the show. Those long hours must have been killer, and I question if it was really necessary.

    I love Voyager, and her portrayal of Captain Janeway is probably the reason number one. What a great role model, the strength, the ideals, and the heart of a lion. I've watched Voyager back then on TV, but since then I keep rewatching all seasons again and again. And the final episode, when Janeway pays Tuvok a visit, it always make be burst into tears. Thank you!
    I wonder what Kate Mulgrew could do today with the arch story telling of modern Star Trek shows. Live long and prosper, Kate!

    Janeway was so much more interesting as a captain than sisko. But of course, I’m voyager, the show didn’t get too deep into the captains personal life, as opposed to DS9 where it the main plot a lot and I just wasn’t interested.
    I did not care sisko was the emissary outside of how it effected his decisions in starfleet, nor did I care about his wedding, his relationship with Jake or even dax or anything else. Because ultimately most of it was superficial while everything janeway did had a direct impact.

    For those of you who are ST fans but dislike Voyager, read the comments. That series touched us fans in the similar ways. It wasn't so much about ST, though that was a brilliant franchise to work from, it was about the actors and the characters. Their friendship and their separation from Earth and their longing to get back. There was something about that whole scenario and especially the chemistry of the crew that was held together brilliantly by Mulgrew's talent that caused us fans to love this show. None of your criticisms or nitpicking of the scripts can ever change that for us.
