    The poise that the Porsche showed at 5:32, when the back end came snapping back around, and the Cayenne just straightened out like it was on a rail. That was so impressive, I had to watch it a few times in a row. That's a well tuned suspension.

      I agree. It has great tuned air suspension and 3 suspension modes. Comfort, regular, and sport mode.

      Im guessing you are being sarcastic but I know a few people who expect their suv's to perform like a track car whenever they want to. This demand is becoming more noticeable with the newest cars coming out for example Acura suvs and now an electric mustang suv. Im not a fan of suv's but Im interested to see what these manufacturers can come up with.

  • @ChrisSalazar1983
    @ChrisSalazar1983 10 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    You can disable to auto tensioner features of the seat belts and FULLY turn off all safety features on the ML. I am a Mercedes-Benz Tech so the info on how to do it is available to me. They should have gotten someone to do it for them. And no, you do not need any special equipment. You just need to know how to put the vehicle into dyno mode through the instrument cluster using the steering wheel buttons... Point is, they compared apples to oranges during this test.

    • @atraxr603
      @atraxr603 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Deafeats the purpose when an ordinary person can't just press a button, right? Irrelevant if you can disable it by tricking the system in to thinking it's somewhere it's not.

    • @ChrisSalazar1983
      @ChrisSalazar1983 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      An "Ordinary" person can do it. Ordinary people reset their maintenance/service due lights all the time, correct? Well, dyno mode is in that same exact menu. The information is just easier attainable for me than most others. By no means is it impossible for people to get. I personally don't give out the instructions for safety reasons. People can do some stupid shit with the vehicle in dyno mode. If they happen to come across the instructions on how to do it, then so be it. I feel comfortable knowing it wasn't me giving that information out there. As far as the seat belt auto tensioners go, how to disable them is in the Owners Manual... I apologize as I don't follow the "tricking the system into thinking it's somewhere it's not" part. What is that in reference to?

    • @woodsmark0
      @woodsmark0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MBTech Im a Technician for Dodge and can 100 percent agree with you on this. In or Hellcat and Demons there are pretty obvious buttons if you're trying to enter a certain mode. If you are "ordinary" then keep your damn hands away from even turning it into its full potential. You would think if they were going to test this beast they would have read into it more. I would love to work for MB.

    The porsche ceramic brake made all the difference, even the track race because the driver could brake later than he could with the Amg also offers a ceramic brake optional extra should've included that in the merc to get a more accurate comparison. and I'm sure the merc would've one all these tests if they included that optional extra

    The thing about AMG SUVs is that they aren't meant to go around a track, but off road. That is how the chassis of the ML and GL are built. The Porsche SUVs are meant for flat out speed, sure they may be able to do some off roading, but not as much as the Mercs. It's not built for that purpose. Both are fantastic cars

    • @dbz0412
      @dbz0412 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Samuel Abraham so why put a 500-600 amg under the hood if its not specifically ment for track? 500hp is over kill for off roading dont you think

    • @SamAbraham
      @SamAbraham 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Proverbs 16:4 KJV Sure maybe it is, but I'm not complaining that it has more than enough power. They pretty much took the engines from the S63 and E63, and dropped in the SUVs. They probably didn't feel the need to change too much to the engines, as they have all. Plus, what's wrong with overkill? The new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has 700hp, which makes these seem like nothing haha. AMG is not just about speed with the SUVs, it's more about effortless power and torque.

    • @ImYoshiDoingPvP
      @ImYoshiDoingPvP 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Then you've never been on real off-roading. Would like to see you in 300hp suv doing off-roading in Czech Republic. Here we literally go so much uphill you feel like you're taking off and having 2+ tons car without ,,overkill amount of power,, you're just gonna slide down.

    • @SamAbraham
      @SamAbraham 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A Muhovic Never said other SUVs can't go off road lol. I was saying that AMG SUVs just give you the luxury of power for whenever you need it. As do the BMW M SUVs, and Porsche SUVs

    I have both cars 957 Cayenne S and W164 ML550. Both cars are great but they have two different characters. Porsche Cayenne is a true sports SUV means it has a character of sport's cars, stock exhaust note, suspensions, tourqe, cornering, just almost everything, although I'm not too fond with the interior but I don't care I want that super SUV feels. Mercedes Benz ML is more of a big cruiser, more of of cruising SUV, and have better interior.

    You can clearly tell, that they started breaking at the same time. But that makes no sense, because the merc was much faster to 100 mph. So its really dump that the Porsche started to break 10 meters behind the Merc. I doubt that the Porsche even reached 100 mph when he started braking.

    • @erics9754

      Exactly this was rigged did you notice in the time trial the guy timing the Merc stopped the clock after he passed the Finnish line and the other guy timing the Porsche hit timer before he crossed the line that would more than make up the one-second difference. Bottom line the Merc is faster no matter how these guys try to spin it.

    This isn't a very good review in my opinion. Yeah they talk about the performance of the two but realistically speaking having looked at both of these SUVs to own myself, I will say for the money the Mercedes is hands down the better of the two. To find a Turbo S equally appointed with the standard options of the M63 is rare. You're looking at easily over $140k. $3900 for a moonroof Porsche!? Really!? And it's not even panoramic... Dollar for dollar the M63, performance wise, the Cayenne will do better on the track but not significantly which I find irrelevant because that's the last place you'll find either of these two.

      Dezz D Those are all great choices and in NO WAY am I knocking the Porsche. I love the Cayenne Turbo, my problem is I'm 6'5 and athletic. The Cayenne, especially the newest ones, are a tight fit so I lean more towards the spacious ML63. This review is ridiculous, they are scolding the ML for it's safety features on the track. Keep in mind the history of this SUV is a family shuttle with mild to moderate off-road capability. The Porsche comes from a family of sports cars and roadsters. They tried to highlight the Porsche's stopping power, but just lightly mentioned the nearly $6,000.00 brake package you'd have to buy to get it. After review of both of these, I went with the ML63 - Genuinely happy with my purchase :-)

    I think the problem here is the ML was designed first and foremost as a SUV to do SUV tasks unlike the Porsche that had sporting pretensions from the very beginning. There's a difference between a beef burger that was meant to be a beef burger and soybeans that get compressed to imitate beef.

    I have to state the obvious here, carbon ceramic brakes vs steel brakes in that first test is irrelevant , carbon ceramics only provide better "SUSTAINED" performance, which actually makes steel brakes better for the road as many carbon ceramic brake setups don't reach optimal performance until they have some heat in them !
