How fast does the MG4 XPOWER get to 100km/h? Is this supercar beating hatchback the real deal?

- @mgmotornewzealand claims the MG4 XPOWER can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds - but can it really? We put it to the test, and take a close look at what looks to be the performance bargain of the century.

Getting ours next week, we are so excited.. great review. Going down the rabbit hole, it is interesting that you compare it a little to the actual group B Metro 6R4 the xpower actually has slightly more bhp (410) but can’t touch its insane 0-60 of 3.2 which made it the fastest car at that time in the world to 60. But If measured against the clubman spec it had “just 250bhp” making 0-60mph in 4.5s.
However, this electric version will never match the value of used 6R4’s over £225,000
I have it here in the UK in that green. Awesome machine. Bonkers bargain.
Very cool!
👍🏻 we get ours next week but in Grey, as a company car we just couldn’t resist upgrading from a VW T roc and will actually enjoy driving again..
When you were a toddler Richard we actually had an MG Metro as the family car for a year or so you wouldn't remember I am sure. I like this one though disagree on the colour, other options though. One aspect I like is on the open road you are effectively in a sleeper, cheers Dad
Toddler? Try eight or nine! And I very much remember. You drove that thing like you stole it. Isn’t that the car the cop gave you a lecture in heading up the hill to Glen Eden?

Test drove this, and it boots, I noticed the MG pogo a couple of times, it squirms around on the stock tyres, you can feel the vectoring, with an almost shuddering feel,on power delivery. I suspect mg may iron that out. Personally i liked the headroom, the quality is good. If i buy it, coilovers and sticky lighter 18s might be better, id drop circumference as much as legally possible on wheel size, dropping weight and increasing grip, but also it gears the car lower so 3.6 might be possible.
I think they will get the squirm sorted through software. Feels like it needs to sample its sensors quicker.
I don't know why EV manfacturers don't make practical everyday 4wd's. It seems that if it is 4wd it has to have breakneck straight line acceleration that boy racers giz over at a price only the wealthy can afford.
They are coming. BYD, Toyota, Subaru and Mahindra all have family all-wheel-drive coming.
BYD will take over in this segment.
Who cares? Does it cost $20K?
Nope. Well over half the cars sold in NZ each year are new and have prices averaging about the same as this.
Wait five years and you will be able to buy one for $20k
There is the 7 year old Nissan leafs or Suzuki Swifts for $20k for poor people
nissan leaf 2018
If the price tag of MG 4 Excite 51 is too much, then you can go for an old, 1st gen Nissan Leaf or if you're lucky, a Mitsubishi iMIEV (iCar based).
