We visited in 2008 and it really was an unforgettable experience. It’s worth investing in a guide book if you’re interested in the details - on the first day we visited Ankor Watt, Ta Phrom, Ankhor Thom and my personal favourite, The Bayon. On the second day, we went further afield to see some of the lesser known places. It remains one of the most amazing places I’ve ever visited. Lovely video Paddy (I’ve watched it twice!). The six armed statue is of the Hindu god Vishnu btw.

Spent a week exploring Angkor Wat and surrounding area way back in 2004 right after experiencing the tsunami on a Southern beach in Thailand. What an amazing place it is. From your previous video I can see that the tourist infrastructure has changed a lot and there is vastly more of it. Probably will revisit the area in the next couple of years. Thanx for the reminders and showing what it’s like there now
I think i should clarify, since there are some people that believes angkor was “abandoned from the world, hidden deep in the jungle”...well.....”...deep in the jungle” yes, but abandoned...never. although the capital moved to another area in the country, angkor still had people traveling through it. Henri Mouhot helped popularized it, but he wasnt the first foreigner to be in angkor (and he never claimed to be the first either). In fact, wall paintings found on angkor temple itself indicated that Holland had ships sailing into angkor. The date was estimate to be from the 15th or 16th century (i forgot). Among Holland, there were other european ships found on the wall.
BEWARE TEMPLE OVERLOAD I bought a 3 day pass and saw all the temples I'd listed to see, it was amazing. My tiny hotel provided a driver and after 2 full days, I'd seen my Bucket List, so paid the driver to have the day off! Siem Reap is a nice little town to stroll around too. Great video Paddy!
Hi Paddy. Great video thanks. You're right it's easy to spend a lot of time at the Temples. I got a 3 day pass, spread over 5 days so I could rest and do other things in between days. If you go to the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng museum in Phnom Penh it's very upsetting but you have to go, out of respect for the victims. I was in tears at one point, truly. I only took a photo of the gates of each place. When I got inside I didn't feel comfortable taking pics. It is a solemn experience. Get the both of them done in one day and then you can recover emotionally. It's amazing how beautiful the Khmer people are when you consider their tragic history. Thanks, Simon.
It's impossible not to fall in love with this stunning place. Did you know that Cambodians and expats who have been living here for two years don't have to pay 🤠
I literally just came back from Angkor Wat and the temples. A one day pass isn't enough. The heat nearly killed me. What I will tell you is no video or photo does it justice until you see it in real life. It's incredible. I had a 5am start and did sunrise at Angkor Wat. I recommend this early start because I was done by 1pm.

I have been to the Angkor Wat Temples 25 years ago and spent a whole week to see them all. It was truely amazing when you see the sun rising over the Angkor Wat , smell the flowers and plants and listen to the birds waking up at 5.30 am in the morning . Definately a must do on every Globetrotters bucket list !!!

Ever since seeing this about 10 years ago and on Tomb raider it is so magical and I haven’t been there yet … But wow thank you for showing us this spectacular place and I will definitely be visiting this site soon . Loving your journey in Cambodia 🇰🇭…
It amazed me , too, when I visited back in 2011 that no signs, “Do Not Touch”. Amazing to walk through but oils on people’s hands can be detrimental. This was my favourite, too. Angkor Wat was crowded when we were there so you were lucky!
I have been there 14 years old when I just graduated from college, and I’m taking my husband there later this year. Angkor wat is really beautiful and amazing.
As a Cambodian citizen I am really appreciates you for visiting my country. Also I 🙏🏽🙏🏽 your video about Angkor Wat and you’re being so authentic and respectful, I really enjoyed to learn from you as well even though I was born in Cambodia, but I only had a chance to visited Angkor Wat time in 207. lol I like how you included your drivers in here as well😅 overall I really appreciate you for sharing this to the world 🌍🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🇰🇭💗
Wow what a special place it looked amazing. I really like how you showed us the surrounding temples aswell instead of just the main one. More to add to our bucket list 😊
I spent a whole day just at Angkor Wat itself. If you start to look at all the intricate carvings in the walls of the outer corridors, it can take very long, because each side of the quadrangle is something like a full kilometer long, and every inch of the walls is full of elaborate carvings that tell a story. I hired a Park Service professional. It was not that much-- if I recall, it was $65 per day, and I used his services for two days. He picked me up at my hotel in a nice air-conditioned Toyota Camry and took me all around, and even stopped for lunch at nice local restaurants. If you want to see all the temples in the surrounding area, you really need four days or more. He also took me to a craft shop in the city of Siem Reap where local poor youth from the surrounding countryside are trained in arts and crafts skills to make various artistic souvenir pieces, and some of them are quite accomplished now. It was fascinating to see how the art was made, and of course there is a store where you can buy authentically produced art and craft pieces at all various price ranges. Some of it is very stunning.
Make sure to check out Kampot if you haven’t already paddy! It’s lovely. We stayed at The Hideaway, it was just out of town on the river, the owners are lovely. If you don’t stay there I recommend a sunset drink or for a swim
An amazing place, lucky enough to have had the chance to visit Angkor Wat. I don't usually like to get tour guides but for Angkor Wat it was a must I believe, they are so well educated on the subject and the place has so many hidden stories and information.
Just got back from Cambodia and Ta Prom was my favorite by far. The weight of history was very heavy there and inspired a sense of awe you don't often feel these days.
I researched Ancor Wat , it was found in a jungle of exotic plants , when they cleared away the jungle they discovered a metropolis of farming villages with a complex system of aqueducts completely surrounding the many temples , all overgrown and swallowed by the jungle
Jaw dropping scenes. I will be visiting Angkor Wat this upcoming Spring and I am absolutely looking forward to it. Currently starting to read history books on the Khmer Empire to get fully prepared for the trip. Amazing how civilizations and empires from hundreds and sometimes thousands of years ago managed to construct such impressive and complex temples like Angkor Wat. No modern flashy architecture of the 21st century will ever outmatch anything like this. Thanks for the great scenes and inspiration.
The 1000 Lingas is not too far away, and is amazing. 1000 Lingas carved into an active river bed, all coming from a small spring on the top of a mountain. Unreal experience.
Angkor is a magnificent place. It's like a labyrinth, where you can lose yourself for days, maybe weeks. There is more laying beneath our feet, to be discovered. Some of the smaller buildings at the main temple are built on top of older ones. It's was revealed thanks to modern ground scanning technology. I hope you are enjoying your time in Cambodia.
Hey Paddy so glad you are enjoying Angkor Wat!!Thanks for taking us on a great adventure. Yes Cambodia is so lucky to have these temples in their country.
Awesome video! I was there 15 years ago and did all the temples in three days. There is so much to see. I was also amazed at Angkor Wat in its entirety. You'll never forget it. Thanks for letting me relive my time by this awesome footage. A must see for sure! I like the time lapse at the end. I also saw the sunset from that viewpoint and it wasn't overly great.. no crane at that time. I also woke up super early to catch the sunrise over Angkor Wat itself, which was pretty spectacular.

Great video! I was here just last week and managed to squeeze 11 temples into 2 days - exhausting but so worth it! They all have their own unique elements and even one of them alone would be worth the visit. I had a similar reaction of just staring at everything, jaw on the floor the whole time. Truly spectacular.
Thank you so much for the video in 2018 the wife and I We're lucky enough to be in Cambodia for 3day and I literally can't wait to get back and spend a week there it's amazing the people were wonderful and thank you for showing it.
7:15 - Yes, you are right about the tree, it did grow down. The Tartarian culture that built it had their most sacred spaces built under the ground in specific spots for healing frequency. Later it was dug out during excavation.
Just Epic, so beautiful and amazing Paddy, you are inspiring me to get off social media and go travel exploring again. Awesome video very much enjoyed it. Looking forward to more.
Paddy my friend, thrilled you finally went to see Angkor Wat, all thru your Cambodia vids I'm like, 'why Paddy not visit most visited site, Angkor Wat' but that first site you went, so visually impressive and just wow, Tuk Tuk driver really went above and beyond so you see it as well, before main site. Just superb that tree even grew like that. Loved the latest video, Paddy, always can count on you to share your experiences (even the 'secret' sunset spot with a meh view) crowded, still beautiful and thank you for sharing with me-and us-loved it. Stay Safe and healthy!
From the moment I subscribed to this channel at the beginning, and you went to your first temple, I have been waiting for this vlog. I went to Angkor Wat in 2012, and it remains one of the most amazing places I have ever been to. You lucked out with the low crowds at the main temple. Good you didn't go at sunrise, which was overrun with tourists. And how about the monkeys? There were a few near the entrance when I went. I also got lost in Ta Pram (Tomb Raider temple). Thank you for this! Top vlog, Paddy. 🙏🛕
Looks beautiful. I'm still planning my Thailand trip and now I'm going to have to add some Cambodia time in!! Sending Cowboys family best wishes from Michigan!!
I did 3 weeks South Thailand and right now I'm 7 days in Siem Reap. And after I enjoyed the Thailand trip....these days here top it! Can't really explain why, and in a way it is a very personal thing, but: go to Siem Reap and discover the Angkor Park! Still not many tourists here, so hurry up. I had in the morning (8:30) a walk from the west gate to the Bayon temple. Alone on the road (closed for traffic), birds were singing and then the huge trees around you. Perhaps one of my most emotional walks. Don't miss it out!
I believe someone said birds and animals dropped seeds on top of the Ta Prom temples which is how the trees seem to had grown on it. But, some said Ta Prom temple was submerged underwater during the great flood hundreds or thousands of years ago. It makes sense if the roots of the trees are left exposed after the water receded.
Visited the same three temples about seven years ago feels like yday. Tah prom was also my favourite. Hope you get down to the south of Cambodia especially Koh Rong majestic down there a real hidden gem in South East Asia!
Really enjoyed this video! It gave me some good ideas how to properly VLOG this amazing heritage site. Really love this video series and getting to hear your take on Cambodia. I hope you come back!
Many tourist go to Angkor Wat to view the sunrise from the lake in the morning. The best place at the lake is on the left side. When I were there we spend 2 days, 13-14 hours each day without lunch at these Tempels. Then 2 days also 13 hours per day visiting tempels by car outside. Tough days for our driver too, despite he was sleeping when we walked the tempels.
Something changed here. I can’t put a finger on it but this is really vibing. Super cool, man. The photography and the edit are really very good. Nice one. 🙏
Hahaha Paddy is absolutely crazy!!! When they were running to catch the sunset, he says that he doesn’t care about sunsets, but then the excitement from the cowboy, gets him excited too!!! 😂😂😂
You know, there are even more temples deep in the jungle that were still part of the ancient city. We were taken to temple, that had just been rediscovered a year or two prior. No restoration had yet been done. It was a jumble of giant carved stones covered in moss and vines under the canopy. It was fascinating to see.
Yes, these kind of trees grow from top to bottom. Normally they are ficus tree such as Banyan tree, Bodhi tree. They can overtake a tree, or building. Unpopular opinion: My favourite is Bayon.
For me Angkor is the most amazing and magical ruins in the world. I have been lucky enough to see quite a few amazing places around the world but Angkor can not be recommended enough!!! Happy Travels
Angkor has stay with me in my heart ❤️ it's incredible how some places just make such an impact ✨️ this was for me one of the most incredible things I have ever done.
Paddy I think you will find the crowds at most of the temples at sunrise. We went at that time of day and it was so busy. Magnificent but beautiful. We got up at 4.30am three mornings in a row to see them all. Such amazing memories.
Wow, wow, wow. If this wasn't already on my bucket list, it certainly would after seeing your video. I can only imagine it looks even more spectacular in person, especially the Tomb Raider temple and those trees!

You should!
Visited last week and it was such a dream come true. Truly an amazing place.
Thanks Paddy . Another one to add to my bucket list. Stunning.
The site is magical and incredible Khmer art ! Murals are superb 😍
Thanks Paddy !
My pleasure 😊
You should!
Your time-lapse video in the last few minutes is so gorgeous, mate! 😊
Tough days for our driver too, despite he was sleeping when we walked the tempels.
amazing! thanks for giving us an in person view, so amazing to see the perfect symmetry on this building, what an advanced people they were.
Something changed here. I can’t put a finger on it but this is really vibing. Super cool, man. The photography and the edit are really very good. Nice one. 🙏
Glad you liked it!!
I was looking forward to this one. Thanks, it was great. I can't wait to go.
Hope you enjoy it!
You haven't seen temples until you been to Cambodia I had an amazing time there very found memories and the people are so warm beautiful and friendly
Hi Paddy, I’ve really been enjoying your Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia series. I’m planning a trip to all 3 so it’s been very helpful and wonderful to watch. Thanks for sharing 😊
My pleasure 🥰
Very well made videos Paddy. You know when to be respectful and when to enjoy yourself.
Well done thanks. I was there twenty-five years ago and I’m surprised at how little changed. Except the giant crane😮
THANK YOU, Paddy, THANK YOU ! Wonderful video ! I'm hoping, but may not make it there, so this was great to see ! Happy travels !! 👍
Absolutely stunning 🙏
Thank you! Cheers!
The look on your face is exactly what I experienced in 2005. The most amazing place i have ever been
Very nice guide. Stuff we wouldn't have known if you hadn't stepped up to show it to us.
Thanks so much for all your efforts, Paddy. Definitely putting this one on the list!
Glad it was helpful! this place was a MUST
I was lucky enough to go to Siem Reap in December 2022 and I fell in love with the town.
Like you Paddy Ta Prohm blew us away with the huge trees that have grown intertwined among the ruins.
Can't wait to go back to Cambodia :)
yeah it was an amazing place!
Lovely video Paddy. Thank you! 🙏We are visting in January next year and can't wait to experience it.
From the toon , great video 👍😉🇬🇧
Hiya Paddy. Your videos always have great content. So good to see you went with cowboy again. You will change his life with your videos.
You're a legend. You have a big heart of gold.
Love the tour of all the magical places. Always feel I am alongside you.
Great narration around. The temple with the tree. Wow.
That is great for free food. I hope his child was ok.
Loving the narration. Love hearing the history of all the places. Great video.
Thanks Nicky ☺️
Your angles of taking video are brilliant!! (4:10, 6:59, 18:14, 19:10, 19:19)
The temple with the huge tree, that's nicknamed the "Tomb Raider" temple as it was used in the movie.
I’m proud to say, that I’m Cambodian 🇰🇭
Superb video Paddy! Ankor Wat complex was always someplace I know I needed to visit at some point, but your video made me realize I need to put it more towards the top of my bucket list. Gorgeous!👌
ta prom was my favourite temple, too...
Stunning location, 20 years since I was there. I thought that if you went for sunrise the sun lined up with the central spire of Angkor Watt.
We're so stoked to go here in the next few months!
Hope you have fun on your travel and enjoy. Be safe and be well.
Paddy we’ve visited Ankor Wat twice, and will go again. Such a beautiful interpretation why we love it so much.
I'm from Cambodia. I really enjoyed your video, it made me feel very miss my country well watching your video.😊 Thanks for make very good videos and bring our cultural for other people our the world see it.
I like the new “look” to your video!!
Thank you for doing a TH-cam video my mother land … I loved it very much …you are best Paddy’s….
I've been to a lot places in the world, but this is by far the most beautiful that I've ever seen 😍
As an English learner, I love your English accent. Anyway, thank you for showing us to the world. You may also check the Southern part of Cambodia(Kampot, Kep, Sihanoukvile, Koh Kong), and the Northeast part of Cambodia(Mondulkiri, Ratanak Kiri).
I was at Angkor 2 weeks ago and it was quiet. Our guide reckoned that pre-Covid about 10,000 people would visit Angkor Wat per day, but now only about 2000 people a day are visiting.
I shot an Angkor Wat tour video last month. It’s such an amazing place. Great footage mate
cheers!
