  • Tattoos aren't permanent until they've healed and looking after them once you've had one done is just as important as getting a good one in the first place. Meagan Massacre from NY Ink teaches you how to look after your tattoo until it heals.

    Megan is so sweet.
    Since I'm thinking on getting four hearts that represent my family when I'm older I might just purposely travel to New York to get the tattoo and look at everything that New York has to offer.

    I really, really wish I had this lady for my first piece of ink. The guy I had never answered my calls when I had an infection, and was actually out of business shortly thereafter. Had to go to a different salon just to get answers........and I'm even thinking about getting it removed and replaced.

    I have over 16 tattoos :
    When you get home unwrap it clean it off put a "Thin" layer of A&D Ointment and only reapply if needed, when taking a shower just be careful not to soak it, try and clean it with non fragrance soaps ( I use Ivory) after 24 hours DO NOT USE and more Ointment, just Lubirderm Lotion Non-Fragrance you wan the tattoo to breath as she said. it should take around 2 weeks to fully heal ( Dont worry about peeling it's a natural process , just dont pick it)

    That's wild that you brought this up. All my other tattoos have scabbed in the past during healing. Some more than others. The last one I just got a week ago, which was a larger piece and took way longer than the other ones, has not scabbed. Minimal scabbing. Very minimal. It's pretty damn comfortable. lol. I was preparing myself for a "scaborama" of drama. Peace

    I can’t overuse the ointment, I only got a small tin of yayo tattoo butter and the tattooist said that was all I needed

  • @ColossalRay
    @ColossalRay 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I always use a gentle antibacterial soap to clean my tattoo, and will usually wash it about 3 times a day for the first week. Stops it from drying out, but isn't chemically harsh so it doesn't cause irritation. I personally like "Honey I washed the kids" soap from Lush for this. I use a small amount of palmers cocoa butter to moisturise it. It's cheaper than those nappy (or diaper to you Americans) rash creams, naturally smells good without added chemicals and really locks in moisture without suffocating it. My first tattoo I used too much cream, used a harsh soap, and didn't wash often enough. As a result, the tattoo became scabby and itchy and at times I would unconsciously scratch or pick away bits of the colour away accidentally. Needless to say, it did not heal well. Learning from my mistakes, I treated the rest much more kindly.

    how long does a tattoo take to heal? I'm thinking of getting one but I go on beach vacations a lot and I'm not really sure whether or not this will be affected.

  • @madwithhats
    @madwithhats 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wash off the lotion. reapply the lotion. Twice maybe three times a day. If that. That's after your initial week or so of not using any lotion, only the ointment. It's cool as hell that when you finish washing it to dab it dry with a towel. Then let it sit in the fresh air with no water, lotion, ointment for 10/15 minutes. Then apply your stuff.
    Hope that helped.

    I know this sounds extremely stupid, (especially now that I know better,) but I didn't think a tattoo was as much work as a piercing. Maybe it's because I wasn't as interested as I am now, but before I literally thought you just got them, they peeled, & that was it.

    Every tattoo artist has his very own opinion about aftercare, but Meagan summed it up pretty nice. Also you should try to avoid any blood thinning substances just like before the tattoo. Then you should be good to go :)

    I've got myself a beautiful tattoo, but I'm very confused about the aftercare youtube advice. And the advice from the tattooshop. They told me not to wash it for 4 days after that I can rinse it of and put some moisturizer which the shop sells on the clean tattoo 3 times per day.
    Some youtube films let us see that you wash it after 2 hours and than put bephanten on it.
    It's confusing, please tell me what will happend when you do this or that? Kind regards, Marianne from the Netherlands

    every tattoo artist says something different -.-' but if you want the real answer based of education on this, avoid all lotions and frageranced cosmetics for at least a week, and ointments like polysporin do he trick, like megan said, only a thin layer, once a day you dont wanna suffocate it.. thats what i did for my tattoo and it's never been infected, still looks great c:

Mine told me wash it when I wake up to get the plasma and gunk off then apply the ointment and then do the same process before I go to bed. 2nd day, I washed it and waited about 30 to an hour before I applied the ointment. Today is my 3rd I washed it this morning and there was no gunk or plasma and cleaned up well.

    How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?

    • @NocturneVideos
      @NocturneVideos 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hailey Arnold I know this is old, so maybe you already found an answer, but anyway :
      It's different for everyone and you have to take in mind that smaller tattoos generally heal faster than big ones, but from my personal experience, it takes about two weeks to make it through the "first cycle" of healing. By that I mean that it will be mostly healed but it will take another month or so for your skin to completely "accept" the tattoo.

  • @chuies1314

    All tattoos flake and kinda scab in some spots regardless of sun... My thing is when it does start to flake and u rub lotion on and the lotion starts kinda taking off the spots that are steel healing.. how do u get around that... I was looking into the h2ocean foam cause that doesn't have to be heavily rubbed in.

Yesterday i noticed almost bruising and broken blood vessels under the skin next to tattoo by my bikini line. I've been doing the normal care routine washing and moisturizing 3 times a day thinking it'll just heal with the tattoo. Is that right or should i be concerned? It's not under the tattoo but next to it

      Hid mine from my mom for about 3 weeks before she found it. She wasn't happy. I was 22. Lol. She eventually accepted it, and talked to me about it, so it may suck at first, but they'll get over it.

    • @Megan_Behrens

      When all the scabbing has cleared. I would say, depending on the size of the tattoo, 3-5 weeks

    why did my tattoo artist tell.me to leave on the wrap on for 5 days is that normal .

    • @daesunghitandrun
      @daesunghitandrun 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leighann m it depends on the wrap, if they used like cling wrap take that off asap but if they used a product like saniderm then that is meant to stay on for a few days. But I'm not a professional go ask your artist they will be more knowledgeable
