Nagisa Shiota "Don't inject in public, it's indecent!!' Sorry Shannon, I didn't hear you over the sound of your several kids screaming the place down while you complain to the manager
i had to inject in a fast food place and an older, run down looking man looked at me and said “oh, starting young i see. you’re just like me” and that’s the highlight of my diabetes
Story time: Once we were doing a lesson and it mentioned type two diabetes. Almost everyone in the class looked at me. Straight away my teacher took notice and said. “Alexis does not have that type of diabetes. She has type one, this is type two.” I was so happy. another story: I was at tgi fridays (a restaurant.) and an older couple saw me with my insulin. They asked me if they wanted to do it in a corner near there table and I politely declined as I’m comfortable doing insulin in public. Last story: I was at tgi Fridays (different location) and was holding my insulin pen. A waitress who was ordering out deserts said. “I have type one diabetes as well.” And showed me a band on her wrist that said type one diabetic.
@@harmonie8802 same, I essentially did 😂 my teacher bless him warned me before hand in case I was like bothered by it and I was just like class I'm finally gonna know the answers
I remember a girl at school, she needed her insulin during the annual tests and the teacher (a teacher from another grade, that way the real one won’t help us cheat if that makes sense) said no, and that “it could secretly be drugs” next thing you know, an 11 year old little girl is in the hospital because her shitty substitute wouldn’t let her use insulin. What a day that was.
If I was the student I would have took the Insulin and whatever happend happend. You need it to live, which is more important at that moment then obeying the teacher. The teacher definitely was not critically assessing the situation, due to some precomposed beliefs or fleeting feelings at the time.
My pump went off in class and the teacher yelled at me after I had repeatedly told him I needed to go to the health office because I was going low. They had also supposedly been trained on my diabetes and should have known what was going on. I ended up going dangerously low after the class period. Thanks Mr. Modershead.
Me personally I would not even ask, just walk out deal with it and if you get into trouble you can fire back as a protected group. Diabetes is a disability under ADA They know better nowadays.
Ok but that pink Diabetes kit looks so nice and organized and pretty, and mine over here is full of used test strips, needles I have yet to dispose. Oh and five lancets I know will take me three years to use.
that's doesn't make sense... you still need to carry keys and cloths and mobile and many more. what a needle more will effect? what she should say: my dream is to eat without thinking about my blood sugar
Mrb Drm Its more than just a needle lol... For insulin it depends if you use pens or a pump: for a pump you have to carry a minimum of extra insulin, reservoirs, cannulas, extra batteries, and alcohol pads. for pens you have to at least carry 2+ pens, backup needles, and alcohol pads. On top of that, you have to carry a glucometer and backup test strips, lancets, and alcohol wipes. Diabetes sucks lmao
‘I was actually involved in a horrible crash, where I was crushed under kilos of sugar... that’s how I got diabetes...’ 😂 died at that line. I liked how there was a variety of people in here, shows that this can affect many different people,
When I was in a psychiatric ward the medical doctor refused to let me take insulin for the food I ate! I explained to her the basics of diabetes(which she ought to know as she's a doctor???) Then she accused me of arguing with her and when I told her that I knew what I was supposed to do as I've been a diabetic for over 10 years she told me that I had been doing it wrong! For 10 years! If I had been doing it 'wrong' for 10 years I would be dead! I expect this kind of stuff from ignorant uneducated fools but from a doctor? I got her to call my diabetic nurse and things were sorted out but I got no apology! ThAnkS For PutTinG mY LiFe aT RiSk I hate people:)
I have the insulin pump. And I was putting my Carbs into the pump and this guy said hey can you play some music from the iPod and I was laughing so hard.
Don't you worry about their uneducated opinions. I have diabetes type 1 since 1993 . My boyfriend and I are still together for 24 years & counting and have 4 beauitful kids without any fear of being around me as being a diabetic person. Now, he has diabetes type 2 few months ago..it has nothing do with how much sugars or carbs he ate or drank..he never been fat and still isn't fat or chubby. After all, it's in his family genes just like mines is as well. Wish you a good long life and stay heathly! ☺
"is that the kind you get from eating too much sugar?" bro i was diagnosed before i even had teeth. what do you think i did, drink pure sugar as a newborn?
I remember when I was 7 there was a girl in my after school program that was diabetic and was eating a candy (or maybe she was drinking a juice or something, I can’t remember) because her blood sugar was low. A boy asked her why she was allowed to eat candy and she answered that she had diabetes so she needed to have sugar. The boy then said that he wished he had diabetes (obviously not understanding that you don’t really want diabetes, he just meant that he also wanted candy) and I remember the teacher/after school program worker getting suuuuuuper mad at him. She basically cornered him and yelled at him that he should never say that and that he absolutely doesn’t want diabetes. I just remember being terrified and him in hysterical in tears saying that he understood and then apologizing. The girl that had diabetes wasn’t mad or offended, she understood why he had said what he said and she wasn’t mad at all because let’s be honest, if a kid gets a piece of candy and has a valid reason why of course other kids will want it too. To this day I still think that the teacher reacted a little too harshly considering that he was just a 7 or 8 year old child.
_Issaboll _ I can relate to this story too, I have type 1 and I’ve had multiple people tell me they wanted type 1 diabetes full on knowing what they meant, 1 got cornered and yelled at and another one (because karma keeps receipts) developed type 1 and couldn’t stop apologising and crying
Haha I once injected while at a restaurant and a woman told her husband "Harold, I think that girl over there is doing drugs, should we tell someone?" LMAOOO
Moonlight Dreams You get a “rush” from drugs and he said insulin rush as a joke bc the lady thought she was taking drugs, getting that insulin rush baby
How. What. Where. Why does this person think this way. What does injecting yourself have to do with being some random person being vegeterian. Why did they need to mention the vegeterian part.
My 3 year old nephew is diabetic. One of the most annoying questions my sister & I hear all the time is, “Oh poor baby! How did he get that?” He was born. Some lady literally asked my sister, “well how do you fix him?” 🤦🏻♀️
So my “friend” saw my bloods were low picked up my insulin pen and said “here I’ll inject you so your bloods go up” I slapped that girl round her head and was like “are you trying to kill me”
Sharae Williams Why would someone even *want* to inject another person, unless they're unable to do it themselves and it's to save their life, which obviously was not your situation? My father is a type 1 diabetic and one of my worst fears as a young child was that I would have to give him a shot. What did actually happen was the opposite, I constantly had to help him when he got low because he was irresponsible with his diabetes, but he had showed me how to give him an injection once at a young age so that made me think I would have to do it someday lol.
One of my high school friends had type one and we would often be sat together during exams, because our last names were 2 letters and a pronunciation apart, and because she had a bad bladder as well every time an exam was about to start she'd often be in the bathroom, but she would leave her diabetes bag next to me because I was smart enough to tell the proctor that the person sitting beside me has Type 1 diabetes and under state law they can't take the bag away from her during the test. The amount of times I had to tell proctors that there is a law that makes taking an insulin bag away during tests illegal and then convince them is so fucking annoying. She also had a pump that stuck in her arm, and it used to be in her other arm, and there's this horrible scar there because in middle school before I knew her, one of her test Proctors tore the pump out because they thought it was a cheating device. Like, these people are so concerned about cheating that they forget that children do have medical issues and human rights.
Yasemin Kemal All the females on my nan's side of the family, have had diabetes, alternating between type one and two. My mum has 1, nan had 2, her mum had 1, her mum had 2 etc...
When people assume that if you have type 2 its because you were a fat pig who ate lots of sugar. Mine is from advanced heart failure....I had rheumatic fever as a newborn. Its a serious disease no matter which type. My having type 2 doesnt change my daily reality....I still take 2 types of oral meds and 4 insulin injections a day and stab myself in the bloody finger a dozen times a day.....
i’m type one diabetic and you just gotta learn to not give so many shits about it. laugh with them, gotta get some humor out of this shitty illness. or my new favorite is: jokes on you karen i can’t get diabetes from these donuts bcs i already have it.
I slap them every time, and scream that it's not always a person's fault even in they have type 2 and there's a whole different type they haven't even thought about
Right like they don’t get that ppl w type 1 can have literally anything😂 just cause we gotta take are insulin manually don’t mean it’s not the same shit😂
12 year old diabetic here: been diabetic since I was three. I personally LOVE it when people ask if I keep needles in my bad because I get to go “yes, and if you ask me again I will stab you.” Really freaks my friends out. At least we know if a school sh**ter enters they know to grab my bag and go “stAnd bAck, I hAvE A nEEdlE On A stIck” (insulin pen)
@Graciela Montano I never said the she wasn't allowed to ask. Heak, I would love it if someone did ask and she was telling a story about how she was afraid sorry I should have said that sooner.
I’m the first one too but it’s only my parents who really understand my sisters dont really know or my aunts and uncles or my grandparents or all my friends exept one because she has type one diabetes as well
School is one of the worst places to have type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed in 6th grade, I was 12, and I was having a hard time dealing with it. I had great blood sugars, but at first I couldn't even test my own blood sugar so I was completely dependent on the adults around me. My parents were great, but the school nurse (who is literally being paid to do this) had such a weird attitude about it. She always tried to rush me in and out (side note, the school had like 150 students and I was typically the only one in the office. There wasn't a line out the door) so she'd set up my meter and syringe before I got there. Apparently her arthritis made it hard to get the lancets back out, so instead of just having me set up my meter she wouldn't put the lancet in all the way.... it's designed to make you bleed and retract very quickly so it doss minumal damage.... unless you don't push it in. Then it doesn't retract and you have to take it out of your finger, causing way more damage than it's supposed to. That one was fairly easy to fix. I just asked her why she did it that way and then with a little pressure she let me set it up myself again. After about 2 months I could test my blood sugar indepently and it wasn't as big a deal, but I still couldn't inject myself. I could draw my insulin but I'd always just end up sitting there after wiping a site off. I just had this mental block around doing something to my body that would harm it... and I was 12 and dealing with something no one else in my family had so it wasn't expected. About 6 months after I was diagnosed I went to her office before lunch and she told me she wasn't going to give me injections anymore and that I had to do it. A school nurse does NOT have the right to do this to you! But I didnt know that. She wiped down my arm and pinched it for me but made me give the injection... in my arm (would recomend thigh or stomach as a good first injection site because you don't have to strain to reach it). After, I went to the cafeteria bathroom because I was crying and a lunch lady/ nun came and shouted at me to stop crying without even asking what was wrong (don't send your kids to Catholic school! Espically if they have diabetes. Public school is much safer because they're legaly required to always have a nurse in the building). After the fact, my doctors wrote multiple strongly worded letters informing the school nurse that she couldn't do that to diabetic childrenn but it had already happened. It then literally took me 2 whole years to be able to inject insulin by myself. If she had just followed the laws and done her job instead of traumatizing a kid who was dealing with a whole new way of life I don't doubt I would have been able to work through it quickly like i did finger sticks, just at my pace. Her impatience with me, whom treating was her job, made me even more grateful for my wonderful parents though! They didn't sign up for this mess, but they've always supported me when I've needed it and now they're barely involved in my treatment at all. Sometimes you just have to be willing to give people the time they need.
@@margaretsikes1330 It had a huge impact on me as a kid struggling with a new diagnosis by amplifying already existing fears and setting my progress towards independence wayyy back, but I did get there eventually. I'm happy to tell you I'm in a much better place than I was then (even from when I wrote this post). Currently, I'm attending college and managing my diabetes completely independently!
Only once have I been offended regarding my diabetes. When I was at some sort of camp other teenagers asked me to not inject Insulin during meals, but to go outside instead. (Yes, they grouped up for that) One of them was "sensitive" (afraid of needles or sth). I told them I would do it under the table and make sure they didn't have to see it. Later I overheard one of them say, that going outside would not be such a bother and that they didn't understand why I did not comply.
TheSassi42 I'd have said 'Oh no, you're scared of needles? That's fine, I'll just die rather than making you uncomfortable for one minute.' Some people...
My brother, Daniel, has Type 1. My dad, my brother and I went on a trip to my dad's friends cottage. While we were in the car, my bro had a low blood sugar so he had to eat something. That's when my dad's friend Alan found out my brother had diabetes. So he asked the usual questions ("what are those needles for" "should you be eating that" "but you're so skinny"...etc.) and Daniel politely explained them. The questions went on and I could see he was visibly tired of answering them so he just went to sleep lol. When we stopped at a restaurant, Alan starting repeating some statements. "Wow that's a hefty steak. Are you sure you're allowed to have it?" We told him the answer in the car. "So like do you have to lose weight?" he was repeating questions over and over again. He even said "Isn't the government trying to take our money though needles?" Daniel was visibly annoyed. So I tried to change the subject but it wouldn't work. At the end of all this, Alan simply says "I still don't feel like it's a real disease." ????????? Anyway, the point of this long story is that people with chronic illnesses are not walking, talking factbooks that you can just nag and nag. Of course, questions are great but you should know when to stop. Great vid, bbc.
I completely understand what you're talking about. I had my pump site on my arm one day at work and the uniforms are short sleeved, so one of my coworkers thought itd be a great time to start asking me all the usual questions while I was trying to seat some customers. Someone literally had to tell her to give me a minute to do my job. It's so annoying that on top of how constant the literal disease is, people always want all of your time to correct their misinformation. And the part about the guy not believing it's even real??? Someone should put him in dka and tell him hes fine like all the diabetics who starved, went into comas, and died before all the advancements we have now
As a t1d...very relatable. Also reminded me of that one time when I was at a Chinese buffet and had to inject my insulin and that women next to us looked at me in disgust saying „I ruined her appetite“ 🤦🏻♀️ like my pen has a tiny needle that you almost can’t see, I also didn’t pull my shirt up a lot and neither am I fat (not that it matters), it’s basically like someone holding a normal pen to their stomach for a second but GO OFF I GUESS?
My older sister has type 1 diabetes and it's so funny if someone says something like this she likes to respond with a dark sense of humour . If someone says something like "Ummm should you be eating that" and she says something like No I'm going die now with a big kabang let's plan my funeral
When I was first diagnosed the lunch ladys in my middle school kept coming up and telling me if I ate right and exercised it would go away. I'm type 1! I was so sad at the time. Hahahaha!
The woman in the spotty shirt is so right, type 2 isn’t always caused by a bad lifestyle. My nan has type 2 caused by an illness that meant her losing part of her pancreas and she has a relatively healthy lifestyle 🤷🏼♀️
Type II is not always lifestyle. Period. There is a large genetic component as well as things like PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) and other reasons why the body loses its sensitivity to the hormones. My body produces WAY more than it should (which meant I used to have chronically low blood sugar and was having to monitor to keep my sugars up enough that I wasn't in real danger. Now... my body has lost sensitivity to it (which my doctors told me would happen eventually) and now I'm on medication to make my body sensitive again. There is a HELL of a lot more to it than just lifestyle choices, but as always, people just LOVE to point the finger of blame at someone whos sick and blame them for being sick.
Yes. And also, maybe fat people and people with an unhealthy lifestyle still deserve to be treated with respect and dignity? Like even if somebody has type 2 purely because they've been eating mcdonals every day for a few decades doesn't mean you have to be rude to them either.
Yeah my friend (I was 10 at the time) her mom asked how’s ur diet. I told her nope I don’t have a diet i treat it with insulin anyway now I am overweight doing everything to go back to normal weight
Now after a very long time I understood why the school would give us a medical form to fill *every* year. I used to get annoyed but only when I reached a certain age did I understand that there are chronic illnesses such as diabetes type 1 or epilepsy or asthma. Recently they also started asking about mental health as well which I appreciate since some people have cases such as borderline disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, OCD or autism (now am not saying autism is a mental illness its more of a disability however most of the people I meet who have autism suffer from mental illness such as anxiety or have anxiety attacks)
I’ve been waiting for you guys to make this video for so long! One other thing that I think is totally not understood about diabetes is that it’s not just what you eat that controls your blood glucose. If you are stressed, workout, angry, have a lot of adrenaline, etc all of that can affect your blood glucose. Even if you eat the same thing for every meal and know exactly the macros for the meal and dose appropriately, there’s still a ton of other factors that can make your numbers too high or too low.
As in anything no one really knows anything. All we know is the surface level, which I am atleast grateful for since people used to die from this condition. The vast interstices of all these factors are normally taken care of the pancreas but we are in the driver seat and have to figure out a way and get locked in for optimal results.
If you're still at school please listen to this advice: always talk back, never stay silent. I did and I still regret it 8 years after I left school. Don't let anybody mistreat or disrespect you in the slightest.
I would say “well do you want me to die? Because you’re the one who would loose your job when I collapse on the floor and let the head know you didn’t let me use my insulin”
Alice Hamilton is it bad that I get weird feeling while saying “diabetes” it’s the same feeling u get when u say ur name, it feels kinda unnatural.... so sometimes I joke around with my friends saying diabeetus, I think they do it so I feel less insecure about it hehe
I once used to think that if I had diabetes I'd just die because I wouldn't be able to inject myself. But I have a deadly allergy to tree nuts, and the day came when I had to use my epi-pen. And it turned out I can inject myself just fine if my other option is death. You never know what it's going to be like unless you're actually in that position. And I know it's not exactly the same thing as injecting insulin, but it's similar enough that it changed my perspective.
Yes I can relate to all of these. I also hate it when the doctors say that" I control the diabetes and it doesn't control me" because it's still a huge burden and we just have to accept it otherwise we die from it.
Laura Tunstall : You said it, diabetes IS a huge burden. You think about it every moment of each day, it affects every minute of your day. Always carrying snacks and a blood tester...🤨😛
Dicksbefloppin perhaps. I was diagnosed at age 12 so it hit me pretty hard and I was the only diabetic I knew so it was pretty lonely on my end especially considering my friends and family have never fully understood what it is and how it works or even what to do in an emergency and even them asking or telling me the stuff in this video but not trying to understand my answers. Perhaps that's why I see it as a burden.
Laura Tunstall Oh damn that’s pretty rough. I was diagnosed when I was 5 and I’m 16 now so more than 11 years. What part about it does make it so hard for you? Maybe I can help you out
lazy lank I got it about a month ago and it’s made my life so much easier! Especially because I have to go to school and drawing your blood at school isn’t very sanitary.
THIS IS SO DANG RELATABLE! I actually freaking hate when people ask: “Can you eat sugar?” And I’m just like: . . . PUH LEASE I mean, I have an insulin pump so people ALWAYS ask me about it too. Even when I prick my finger, EVERYONE ASKS IF IT HURTS 😂 But seriously, the most painful thing is carrying a bag EVERYWHERE!
When I was in primary school I had people try and avoid being near me since iapperantly diabetes is contagious... it was really annyoing back then but it is laughable now
Really? I was diagnosed when I was in year 4 and if anything people wanted to be my friend because they got to come with me if I had to leave the classroom when my bloods went low 😂
Waking up to see that this video was made like makes me so happy! I've been type one diabetic for almost 15 years and I've heard EVERY SINGLE ONE of these things! Thank you for uploading this!!!
Once when I was putting my blood sugar and carb intake into my pump I had some kids yell at me "Hey you should download flappy bird on that thing!" I died laughing
I had a pump where your have a dermal implant to read your blood and then it tells the pump to pump insulin but it was way to expensive so I ditched it
My pump and blood sugar transmitter is being payed by the health system (Germany). But it can only warn against bad sugar, not give insulin on its own.
It’s a prototype the nhs were trialing it’s didn’t have an official name we just called it x12 but the implant was £50 a month or whenever it needed replacing because it got caught on clothing and ripped out easily and the insulin cost another 70 per month but it may be cheaper when it’s mass produced
chicken stripper 50 a month is cheap. the tube from the pump to the body alone is 15€ a piece and replaced every 3 days. Good thing the Krankenkasse pays.
TheSassi42 what I mean is it was expensive for me because I kept ripping it out on a weekly basis sometimes multiple times a week and it got to the point where I ripped so many out that by the end of the month my parents had to pay £400 and that was when we decided to quit but I think they changed the implant so that it’s sits under a sheet of like tape
I’ve been type 1 for almost 40 years and none of these questions bother me, because they are just curious. What REALLY drove me crazy was my whole family Micro-managing me as a child about food!!!!
@@magdaleinefravien4687 i have mine, and teachers have said that before, but as soon as you remind them that it's a pump, they instantly apologize. Altho, i do admit i was prerry harsh in what i said.
Can I just say how helpful this video has been to my 15 year old son who was only diagnosed just before Easter this year. Your attitude and humour towards something this life changing is amazing and I thank you for being so positive with living with type 1. It's great for him to know that you can have this and still be cool. Thanks to every one of you xx
I never exactly knew how diabetes worked. But then again I never asked someone with diabetes questions. Because there's this thing that's been out for awhile. It's called the internet. And this video.
I work with teens on a residential unit and we've had a couple type 1 diabetic kids stay. They made me nervous when they refused to eat when their blood sugar was low. I think when you have diabetes you need to talk to people and give them information about diabetes because if something happens and the blood sugar gets too low and you don't respond, people need to know what to do, so I think sometimes these questions are necessary.
My sister has Type 1 diabetes, and when she was little our parents sometimes had trouble controlling her blood sugar and would have to monitor her carefully for symptoms. This led to us all getting in the habit of asking her, "Are you low? Do you need to check your blood sugar?" every time she was acting upset or grumpy. Eventually as she got older she got super irritated with that because not only were we micromanaging her, we were dismissing her feelings as, "It's not real, it's just your blood sugar." 😂 Update: she's married now, great at managing her diabetes, and is stronger and more energetic than I am.
I had a friend in elementary school that was type-1 diabetic. The dang shame, y'all, because I said the whole "I could Never give myself a Shot!!" while she was injecting her long-lasting insulin before bed during a sleepover. Flashforward to a few years later in middle school when I was diagnosed myself 😐 You learn quick when you ain't got no choice.
Jayanti Leslie-Iyer I SAY THAT ALL THE TIME. a couple of weeks ago my band teacher asked me what they were and I said “drugs but don’t worry I brought some for you too” it was great
@@conormcdonnell3313 Yes this is designer heroine - I like to have the "Levemir" type as it has a nice continual effect and if I want to get really high I take the Novorapid. This is not for peasants for you, go take your black tar crap.
Yes finally! Been waiting for this for so long 🙌 I've been type 1 for over 3 years now, and it has affected my life hugely both negatively and positively. It's nice to see it being brought to the light when so many know so little about our condition! As for the 'silly' questions, I would much rather people ask me questions that I can then explain for them rather than making wild assumptions they know nothing about 😊
Hannah Wetten I get a good laugh out of alot of questions, I love to explain to people and help them to understand, but when they are dumb question i always just make a joke
My boyfriend has a son that’s type one diabetes. I’m personally feeling a little embarrassed, and mildly ashamed of how I did come across for a little while there out of lack of not knowing anything about it. Thank you for the video.
"Have you tested your blood sugars?" by teachers and siblings was the worst maybe sometimes it's genuine concern but it's the same as saying to a woman is it that time of the month, 1st it's none of your business, 2nd i don't need you for my hypo awareness.
... I get where you're coming from, but for some people when their sugar goes low, they do not recognize it... At all. My father struggled a lot for years because the lower his sugar went the more convinced he was fine. The dexcom made a world of difference because it lets him know so people don't have to pester him
My 8 year old sister has type one diabetes and she was diagnosed when she was around 5 and our school was great and funded for us to hold a run where a bunch of people would run around the school a bunch and how ever many times would raise an amount of money to donate to finding a cure and helping support other people and we got a page in our yearbook and it was great :) I loved that school and she's an absolute brave kid and im so proud of her. Have a great day everyone! Stay safe ❤️
I actually have really good friends because whenever my pump goes off they will ask me if I am ok even if we are at school on the opposite side of the classroom they will mouth it to me
old type1 here, "should you be eating that" is a throwback to a time when we didn't have fast acting insulin like humalog and the others. I was on human mixtard in the 90's and you took it in the morning then in the evening, there wasnt any fast acting insulin you could take before a meal, no ability to counter carbs in your meal. Nowadays we have it so much better, the people that say "should you be eating that" just have to catch up, but their hearts are in the right place.
I wish you had kids instead of adults because I'm 11 got it at 7 I can't go to sleepovers I can't be a kid and I hate it when people say I'm happy I don't have type 1 diabetes well I didn't choose to have it
I was diagnosed @ 10 and im sorry you feel that you cant be a kid but as someone who had always had full education on type 1 and giving myself shots and knowing when I need yo check that your fine to go on a sleepover
True color Lol!!! I was diagnosed 20 yea ago at the age of 5, I would talk to your parents and friends parents bc yea it’s hard but it should not stop you from being a kid, also take care of yourself, I’m 25 now and wished I took better care of myself back then bc now I’m in college and am in a hospital several times a week sometimes months and it sucks, just take care of yourself kid, best of luck to you
Is it just me or when I open my diabetes bag I just love seeing everything organized in this little compartments and all the colours and it's one of the most fun things ever...
I love this video. I'm type 1 on the insulin pump and sensor. I was diagnosed at age 15 the summer before my freshman year of high school . I was in gym class and my gym teacher was a dummy. I did not know exactly what a low was yet. I started feel extremely dizzy and felt like I would passed out it was the worst feeling. I asked the gym teacher if I could go to the nurse she said no you have to run another mile I said I feel horrible. A good friend of mine said to me take my hand and you are going to the nurse I do not care what the teacher said. When I got to the nurse my blood sugar was 28. The teacher got fired.
When i was in 4th grade, a kid brought in some rocket candies. I asked if i could have some, and he said no because he needed them to keep his blood sugar low because he is diabetic. I nodded and understood since i have family members who are diabetic (leading me to understand it). In 7th grade, the same kid brings in a shit load of candy, like, BUCKET LOADS. I ask if he was saving that in his locker for his diabetes, and he said, and i quote, "I don't have diabetes". I caught a grade 4 boy in a lie, 3 years later... Now the kid is a drug addict and a pathological liar.
noooo this gives me memoriesss, I was in class yesterday and someone asked me ‘your so lucky to have Diabetes,I wish I did you get to eat food in class’ so I pulled out my needle and was like:’ so I’m lucky to give needles everyday Debra?’
My life on a daily bases!!!! Story time: Went for an interview, things where going well. They asked if there was anymore they needed to know. I told them I'm diabetic. They response "oh, it's probably best we don't hire you as you are contagious. We wouldn't want to infect our clients." I stared in disbelief.

@Ethan Moore • 12 years ago ik we should avoid it if we do or dont have diabetes,, but people make seem like its poison for us and i get ur tryna help linda but u are NOT my nurse
the “not aloud to eat that” one reminds me of my best friend. he’s got type one, and I know he’s aloud to eat whatever as long as he knows whats in it. so one day I suggested we go to the shops and buy some chocolate, my treat. he was all for it, until he realised halfway to the shops that he can’t eat any of it because his mum would see his levels go up on her phone and get annoyed at him for buying chocolate for the sake of it XD
I've had type 1 for almost 25 years and I've heard almost all of these over the years. *Never* once have I felt offended. Most people are just _curious_ .
It's so nice watching this. Few years late but my 2yo son has just been diagnosed and I feel aweful but watching this just made me feel so much better for his future. Thank you ❤

Story time:
Once we were doing a lesson and it mentioned type two diabetes. Almost everyone in the class looked at me. Straight away my teacher took notice and said. “Alexis does not have that type of diabetes. She has type one, this is type two.” I was so happy.
another story:
I was at tgi fridays (a restaurant.) and an older couple saw me with my insulin.
Everytime Diabetes is mentioned in class tho lmao

I would have taken it and said itst insulin repetitively until she got the point.. then shoved it in their face to read the pen.
That is horrible! I hope the little girl is ok!
Wow!!
I hope her parents sued the school into the ground.
My pump went off in class and the teacher yelled at me after I had repeatedly told him I needed to go to the health office because I was going low. They had also supposedly been trained on my diabetes and should have known what was going on. I ended up going dangerously low after the class period. Thanks Mr. Modershead.
Huh that sucks, did youre principial not give you a note that says youre alowed to leave class if the teacher does not let you? Great story btw

"is that the kind you get from eating too much sugar?"
bro i was diagnosed before i even had teeth. what do you think i did, drink pure sugar as a newborn?
Ouch
_Issaboll _ what a dumb teacher tbh

This is one of the most traumatic stories ever!
I know the feeling of the mental block about injections and the fact that school is NOT a great place to have Diabetes...

Someone literally had to tell her to give me a minute to do my job. It's so annoying that on top of how constant the literal disease is, people always want all of your time to correct their misinformation. And the part about the guy not believing it's even real??? My father has type 1, and still thinks it's type 1 only because of his age, he thinks if he was 2 years older it would be type 2.....
Exactly. You don’t need to be fat and overweight to have t2. My brother has type 2 and he’s healthy (acc to doctors)

@@solsolsolomon u know theres loads of types like the pregant one somehow its i think type 7 when theres none other

@@solsolsolomon there is a LOT more types than that. I'm LADA diabetic for example. Theres also MODY. There are others too.
Explorium exactly
As in anything no one really knows anything. All we know is the surface level, which I am atleast grateful for since people used to die from this condition. The vast interstices of all these factors are normally taken care of the pancreas but we are in the driver seat and have to figure out a way and get locked in for optimal results.
Ya dis shit on the deadlocs
After shooting up (insulin, of course) in class I had the teacher approach me asking if I thought it was appropriate to "do that" in class.

Raye J It’s amazing how people change from different perspectives. I guess you lose something you gain something
After a while injecting yourself becomes a everyday part in your life for a diabetic
To the man at the end... I am currently suffering with severe depression (and type 1), thank you for those words they have helped me greatly!
I never really care when people ask me about my diabetes, even if it is annoying I know they mean the best and are just looking out for me.
I understand, but after 8 years I am sick of hearing the same questions 🤣
Yes I can relate to all of these. I also hate it when the doctors say that" I control the diabetes and it doesn't control me" because it's still a huge burden and we just have to accept it otherwise we die from it.
Laura Tunstall : You said it, diabetes IS a huge burden. You think about it every moment of each day, it affects every minute of your day. Always carrying snacks and a blood tester...🤨😛
Laura Tunstall yeah it's a freaking nightmare and I personally hate it but what can you do
Laura Tunstall really? I’ve actually never had that feeling at all. Maybe because I got it at a young age and basically grew up with it.

I had a pump where your have a dermal implant to read your blood and then it tells the pump to pump insulin but it was way to expensive so I ditched it
chicken stripper Wow, it exists ? Which brand of pump was that, may I ask ?

They did do one on epilepsy; it's one of the older vids.
Eventually as she got older she got super irritated with that because not only were we micromanaging her, we were dismissing her feelings as, "It's not real, it's just your blood sugar." 😂
Update: she's married now, great at managing her diabetes, and is stronger and more energetic than I am.
My parents blamed all my bad moods on low blood sugar and I don't even have diabetes. Let your kids have emotions, people.
This happened to me today.
I had a friend in elementary school that was type-1 diabetic. The dang shame, y'all, because I said the whole "I could Never give myself a Shot!!" while she was injecting her long-lasting insulin before bed during a sleepover.

My 8 year old sister has type one diabetes and she was diagnosed when she was around 5 and our school was great and funded for us to hold a run where a bunch of people would run around the school a bunch and how ever many times would raise an amount of money to donate to finding a cure and helping support other people and we got a page in our yearbook and it was great :) I loved that school and she's an absolute brave kid and im so proud of her. old type1 here, "should you be eating that" is a throwback to a time when we didn't have fast acting insulin like humalog and the others.
