What I appreciate is how these scenes handled a sensitive topic without telling people exactly how they should feel about it. It's much more realistic than shows that have one character be the overly supportive saint and the other be the completely dismissive demon

None are perfect; the sister puts herself at risk for fear of discrimination, the doctor doesn't know much about nomenclature and accidentally says something offensive that pushes the patient away. Yet they all move forward with health as a priority. What a great moment.
I can only imagine how health issues like this effect a transgender person and it's all the more reason I urge people to take their health seriously. I am glad that more and more friends and family are supportive like Maggie is to her sister. At the end of the day, no matter your pronouns, you're someone special and you worthy of a healthy happy life.
"I learned a long time ago that you have to do what makes you happy. Even if some people think it's weird." I can't really explain it but this line feels so powerful especially with Maggie looking at her sister. Her sister must've gone through so many complaints from her family members probably even Maggie herselft but pushed through and did what made her happy. Being her true self.
I love that haltsead is not judgemental with his patients. He maybe akward but he means well and he tries to do his job in intention for the best long term result for the patient. One thing I critize about him that he is sometimes too pushy when the patient doesn't want the treatment, but mostly he does come around.
i love that shes trans, but maggie focuses alot on how her sisters transition affects her, especially in her early seasons appearance. not really the trans rep i wanna see but i do like seeing a medical professional treating a trans patient with respect like halstead
it's complicated bc many times the moment they know you are trans, they actively misdiagnose you or even mistreat you. It's super hard to navigate health care as a trans individual, one always has to juggle the timing to asses when it's riskier to withold the information or not. When I was in a car accident, the paramedic that took me started asking me about my health history, I told her I took testosterone bc I was trans. She stopped treating me and started yelling me saying that I was disgusting and that I should die. You have no idea how terrifying that experience was. I didn't know how bad I was hit, if I was going to make it or not, and the person that had to take care of me was abusing me instead of treating me. Other times, it's the broken arm syndrome. You might go to the ER with a broken arm and yet make it to be about your gender. None of this is just my opinion, it's what the statistics and data show. As trans people we must be extremely careful when to disclose this information, even from doctors, since it can put us in danger.

Maggies reaction is perfectly normal to it. I'm trans and I've had people in my life mourn who I used to be and that's okay. It's a process that you can miss one and celebrate the other side of it
I like hearing your perspective :) I have a very close family member who is trans, and she feels different about the idea of "losing who the person used to be" because she believes that she is still the same person. Always has been. But she just uses a different name and pronouns, and has a more feminine appearance. But she says that who she is as a person, is still the same as she was before she transitioned. But i also do really love the idea of celebrating the new identity of the person, and also acknowledging the memories they have with the person before they came out. And making jokes about it is a really good way to ease the process too.
I agree with you. For example: the mother of a son who transitions to female is grieving the loss of her son, because now she has to welcome a daughter. It takes time to accept. She loves her daughter, but misses her son.
In this show , all the people who works to save lives are given equal importance . They are treated with respect. Unlike grey's anatomy where nurses are looked down upon.

I am sorry, but birth gender is relevant in medical situations. I know it's not fair, but there are medical conditions that are caused by the body that you are born with. You should be able to be who you are, but.....
they could have had a bad situation in the past when they disclosed that they’re trans. ppl have been killed just for saying that they’re trans. i’m not saying that medical professionals are inherently transphobic or that you shouldn’t disclose it it’s just that there is a sizeable risk in telling ppl that ur trans bc u have no way of knowing how they will react. and medical professionals can be bigoted too. there are cases where professionals don’t act as they should because of biases and bigotry. it’s not as black and white as ‘just tell them’ when just telling someone has gotten trans ppl killed in the past.

I think something key about this is that the one chicago team casted a trans woman for this role. She brings to her character a deep element of understanding and experience, for the difficulty to both herself and those who care for her, as well as coping with how those around her react, trying to care for herself and them throughout a period of transition.

You may mean well but your remarks sound like a white man getting off on black women - a little bit plantation owner racist - please be a bit more thoughtful.
Wait, is being called transgender when you are transgender offensive?? Also I want people to understand that being trans can be difficult for family members aswell, and it’s possible for them to go through a state of morning when a sibling or child transitions because it can feel like there brother/sister or son/ daughter has died or gone away. I learnt this a while ago when I had a birthmark on my chest removed cause it was getting bigger and for the few weeks that it spent healing I felt weird knowing that it was gone cause it was the same way my whole life, my doctor explained that It was a form of morning, you don’t necessarily have to be upset or against something to grieve
The first part, it can be down to dysphoria. For me, it isn't offensive but for other trans people it could cause heavier dysphoria so it depends on the person, although doctors and professionals do need to make it clear that they're trans regardless if it's important, And as for the second part, that's true, but at the same time it also depends on the trans person as well as some trans people can't cope with hearing about that type of mourning,
I think it's not that he called her transgender, but *a* transgender. Using such descriptors as nouns can feel very dehumanising. It's like he called her "a black" instead if "a black woman".
"biopsy came back" and they're wearing the same clothes.. so, same day? no wonder people have unrealistic expectations of the medical field.. as if this wouldn't take weeks.. and he's saying, "I'm hopeful it can be cured" as if he has any idea of the severity of the cancer diagnosis after knowing this patient for literal hours. Seriously Chicago Med
I wish Will could have just been like, "OOOHhhh! OK, that makes sense now." And then just continued on. Normalizing. No different than if the patient turned out to have both sexual organs internally and was just too embarrassed to say, or born with just one ovary but didn't want to say.
I am not a huge fan of when someone transitions and then their parents say "i lost my son/daughter" because in reality, you haven't. They are still the same person. They just changed their name and pronouns, and medically transitioned if thats what they want to do. But unless its the trans person's spouse and they identify as straight, the relationship between the trans person and the family member doesn't really change just because of their gender. But i did really love when Maggie said "not completely" either implying Denise is the same person, or that Denise is still alive and Maggie wants her to get testing done. Or both! But yeah, you aren't losing someone just because they transition, they are still the same person they always were.
You forget to put shoes on the other side as well. Yes Its harder for people that transition, but think about the other person too. Bottom line, everything is a process for BOTH sides. And the process needs to be natural and not instant. So dont shame people if theyre struggling to cope with you transitioning when You know They love you. Again, its a process. They'll get there, it could be slower or quicker than you thought.
Will Halstead said in this episode that to use term transgender is offensive. Why? Is it bc she is transwomen if I understand correctly the terminology. Transgender term is used when person hasn't been through transition yet. But she clearly was, so she is (trans) women.
Will said: “Did you know it was offensive to use ‘transgender’ as a noun?” The word ‘transgender’ is actually an adjective, usually a pre-modifier to be specific. As a guess, he probably said something like “as a transgender….” rather than “as someone who is transgender….” or something along those lines. He never said the word itself was offensive, he just was curious about the way he used it being offensive. Hope that helps🙃.
It's also important to remember what's offensive is very subjective based on our personal experiences. While yes, there are many words and phrases that are commonly considered offensive there's a lot of grey area where words can be offensive to one person and not others. I'd someone tells you they found something you said offensive, you should acknowledge it, promise to do better and move on. Going around asking others if they knew it was offensive is the right approach. It doesn't matter if someone else didn't find it offensive, all that matters is the person in question found it offensive.
Dudes naive Maggie did you you know it was offensive to use transgender as a noun But medical terms you have to use the birth gender i think that's how everything falls in place correctly and there are not accidents
I´m glad that she said she misses her brother. So often its forgotten what the family goes through in this process. And its supposed for everyone to embrace the other part just because.
She probably fears being treated poorly if she tells the doctors she’s trans, so wouldn’t bring it up unless it was relevant like this turned out to be. A trans woman going to the doctor for prostate cancer isn’t the same as going to the doctor for pneumonia, for example. Being trans is relevant to one but not the other
Like just admit that you're Trans.... Hiding it makes other people focus on it more Be proud ! And who gives a fck if there are any haters There's haters for literally everyone! You're the one holding yourself back by pretending to be something you're not since you're always going to be focused on it. Who cares if people know, who cares if some people don't consider you a real woman. Move on, do what makes you happy and live life.

I wonder how CSI episodes are gonna work for "representation". Usually, with DNA samples from unidentified bodies they say the victim is male or female, now ppl are going to be upset about that? And how will biology and anatomy classes work when teaching differences between male and female bodies and their specific problems?
We won't. Male and Female are biological terms, Man and Woman are social. We're transmen and transwomen, not transmale and transfemale, and we know that. It's not too hard for a mortician to tell if someone is trans, if the show wants representation, they'll include it.

All I’m saying is, don’t equate cancer to death, there’s a lot of therapeutical options out there, medicine has come very far.
My poppa died from prostate cancer after fighting it for 15 years.
Maggie is absolutely gorgeous
Ok but why did I think she looks like Beyoncé in the thumbnail
maggie: you mean i'm right?!
nat: mmmmmm
maggie: 👁👄👁!!!!!
I love your videos keep it up guys
It a nice to see some representation
Is this a nice or a sad? nice for a new clip or sad for the plot?
Why do these black woman are so beautifulllll , like april she is so pretty can't take eyes of her, and maggie i love her curls and denise , wow like a gorgeous queen
You may mean well but your remarks sound like a white man getting off on black women - a little bit plantation owner racist - please be a bit more thoughtful.
It's not about screening programs. Too many men are hung up about having a prostate exam.
this is the best video ever!!!

I have to know if Denise’s name before her transition was Dennis
I believe so.
Reposted video but it's fine!
When I hear the name Denise, all I can think of is Denephew joke.
Not the way Maggie literally deadnames her sister at the end of the episode tho
where?
This is already posted so why did u repost it
From what I noticed they're doing that with all Chicago shows
What’s the name of this show?
The ridiculousness of it all. Ever had surgery? -No. Pretend all you want, but don’t lie.
Denise genuinely looks like Beyoncé ngl
I'm sad for you Maggie.❤❤❤😢😢😢😮😮😮❤❤😢😢😢❤❤😢😢😢❤❤😢😢❤❤❤😢😢❤❤❤😢😢😢❤❤❤😢😢😢❤❤❤😢😢😢😢❤❤❤😢😢😢❤❤❤😮😢😢😢😢
Why are you sad?
Why does Will always have to make it about himself? 🙈
For me, it isn't offensive but for other trans people it could cause heavier dysphoria so it depends on the person, although doctors and professionals do need to make it clear that they're trans regardless if it's important,
And as for the second part, that's true, but at the same time it also depends on the trans person as well as some trans people can't cope with hearing about that type of mourning,
@@That_Demiboy_Poker thank you for explaining ❤
@@Vivistar_ Yw :)
I think it's not that he called her transgender, but *a* transgender. Using such descriptors as nouns can feel very dehumanising. It's like he called her "a black" instead if "a black woman".
Let's forget about that gender. When this is my blood, I would do anything to keep a good soul happy and alive. Put away the fight.
我爱你chicago med
So Denise is the pretty sister?
"biopsy came back" and they're wearing the same clothes.. so, same day? no wonder people have unrealistic expectations of the medical field.. as if this wouldn't take weeks.. and he's saying, "I'm hopeful it can be cured" as if he has any idea of the severity of the cancer diagnosis after knowing this patient for literal hours. Seriously Chicago Med
never be ashamed! transpeople have fought a very hard fight and they should be proud of themselves. no shame you hear me!!! 😡
and maggie i heard lot about you i dreamed that i could be nurse like you can you teach me
I wish Will could have just been like, "OOOHhhh! OK, that makes sense now." And then just continued on. Normalizing. No different than if the patient turned out to have both sexual organs internally and was just too embarrassed to say, or born with just one ovary but didn't want to say.
But she said she's transgender .I don't understand
She is. She was born with a prostate and called a boy/man but then transitioned and is a woman now.
He apparently used it as a noun. So instead of saying she's transgender he said she's a transgender. Like saying someone is A gay.
I'm Indonesian, and no, there aren't over 700 languages here. Not even close.
The transphobia in these comments are just disgusting
It's just me or she kinda looks like Beyonce?
i need a job ya i cant stay home
Why did Maggie bring will spill the tea
"Sir...
"It's ma'am ! ...
" OK ma'am... you have Prostate cancer!!
@@grashla okay, thanks!
She's a trans here and in Code Black same thing she doesn't tell her doctors
Dudes naive Maggie did you you know it was offensive to use transgender as a noun
But medical terms you have to use the birth gender i think that's how everything falls in place correctly and there are not accidents
I´m glad that she said she misses her brother. So often its forgotten what the family goes through in this process. And its supposed for everyone to embrace the other part just because.
It jumpscared me when she said “I’m a transgender woman” 😞 never thought I’d see a trans woman in Chicago med but as a trans boy I’m appreciative:3
nasty
Ngl though Maggie's sister looks like Beyonce on the thumbnail
Why can't she accept reality yes she is a woman but she needs to acknowledge that she's a man when it comes to medical science.
Hiding it makes other people focus on it more
Be proud ! And who gives a fck if there are any haters
There's haters for literally everyone!
You're the one holding yourself back by pretending to be something you're not since you're always going to be focused on it.
Who cares if people know, who cares if some people don't consider you a real woman.

@@meggrotte4760 I guess that's fair, I also get tired of seeing stories about black pain or gay pain because it's already something I experience on a daily basis
We don't say the same about straight people.
Very special episodes are so annoying. We get it, the writers don’t know anything about lgbtia+, disabled, or non-white people and just rehash the same story over and over instead of treating them like people

Psych eval?
I wonder how CSI episodes are gonna work for "representation". Usually, with DNA samples from unidentified bodies they say the victim is male or female, now ppl are going to be upset about that? And how will biology and anatomy classes work when teaching differences between male and female bodies and their specific problems?
We won't. Male and Female are biological terms, Man and Woman are social. We're transmen and transwomen, not transmale and transfemale, and we know that.
It's not too hard for a mortician to tell if someone is trans, if the show wants representation, they'll include it.
@@tally9542 Maybe you are capable of understanding the concept of male and female, unfortunately not everyone is. I read an article they are pushing for anthropologists to stop using these terms.
@@eeeccc3562 Most trans people are very understanding of this kind of stuff, just cause the vocal minority isn't doesn't mean we are all gonna react with rage.
@@garuda9416 That is a good thing to know, it s unfortunate that it s not the information that reaches the general public.

Sexe and gender should be a seperate thing by now . U can be a male woman or à female man
You can be a masculine female woman or a feminine male man or a feminine female woman or a masculine male man
First
doctor: so you have any medical history I should know about? surgeries, medication?
transgender: no, nothing. no major surgeries here.
karma: looks like it's my time to shine!
What?
1. Don't use transgender as a noun
2. She said the surgery would be too complicated to have it removed, it's not her fault that it couldn't be removed
@@kgroveringer03
1. Don't tell me what to do
2. It's not her fault it couldn't be removed, but it absolutely is her fault for lying about having major surgery. She 100% straight up lied in the face of her doctor about her medical history. Everybody knows that can have disastrous consequences. Be smart, don't lie to your doctor to make yourself feel better. It might just save your life.
@@descent1234567890 maybe, just maybe, we shouldn’t treat this like an actual debate to have, when there is no known case of a trans woman on hormones to get prostate cancer.
Also transgender is not a noun, it’s really ridiculous to insist on using it in a weird and creepy way
@@nogroth1 the moral of the story is "don't lie to your doctors, no matter how uncomfortable you are talking about it, because it can very much safe your life". this applies to everyone, not just transies.

@MisuMeow A sister is a female sibling. A brother is a male sibling. Only males have a prostate gland. Maggies sibling has prostate cancer, and you can't have prostate cancer without a prostate gland, therefore logically Maggies sibling is a brother.
