    More than a billion people worldwide, mostly children, do not have a legal identity. In many countries, this means they can't get access to vital services like health care and education, says legal identity expert Kristen Wenz. She discusses why this problem is one of the greatest human rights violations of our time -- and shares five strategies to ensure everyone can get registered and protected.
    The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). This is a problem for the Romani community as well and one of the reasons they are denied so much assistance and basic public services. I'm not sure that requiring a birth certificate is as much the answer as doing what we have here in the Twin Cities (a temporary identification for public services called an Adult Services card) for the homeless that cannot get or find birth certificates.

    It's truly disappointing that some commenters are missing the point or don't see how important this is. The many problems this causes don't only affect these poor human beings, it affects everyone. I know there's a ton of people whose main concern is access to basic rights and identity, to end another person's suffering. There's also going to be a ton of people on the complete opposite side concerned with the fact these people are legally unaccounted for. That's the simplest I can make it sound to show that it is something that we really do need to bring into focus more than we recognize, no matter where you stand politically. But it ultimately goes way beyond that and affects many aspects of our world. Every life counts.

    The problem of the polio kid she mentioned wouldn't be fixed by giving her a birth certificate. In many countries, the governments are not interested in helping the poorest people of that count, regardless to if they 'exist' or not. Only when international NGO's come to such a country, these people are helped. Having a birth certificate and with those, human rights (theoretically), doesn't mean you get those rights in practice.

    • @kristenwenz6637
      @kristenwenz6637 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn’t automatically give you a right... but with vaccines and in particular Polio (as my example) all governments DO want to irradiate this health risk therefore they need to know how many people there are and where they are so they can vaccinate all of them. If births are never recorded, the governments are unable to provide universal vaccines or health coverage.

    At least I don’t have to incriminate myself and I can be sued by jury. Yay

    • @Melesniannon
      @Melesniannon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheMeanArena How he's describing the amendments generally, as well as the third and tenth specifically, are a dead giveaway that he's talking about the US. Now all that's left is the explanation of how they're exactly doing that but it's probably dung anyway. For example, the third amendment in fact refers to soldiers, not police, who are not soldiers. The police tends to be in the employ of the state, not the federal government. States don't have their own armies, though the federal goverment obviously also has a police force, they're commonly referred to as the FBI.
      Furthermore it ends with "but in a manner to be prescribed by law" which means that all it takes for this amendment to be not violated, is for there to be a law under which circumstances a soldier can actually be quartered in your home. If you take into account that states of emergency tend to trigger all kind of otherwise unusual laws, there's probably really little valid about a complaint that the amendment is being violated.

More Steps Need To Be Taken To Find Sustainable Solutions! TH-cam And Ted Is Great But How Can Their Be More Progress Made? How Can Regular People Be Involved. At the head of this herd is the idea that rights are equivalent to freedom, as she spoke it so.
      Where these developing countries do their best to get their people out of poverty, those who irresponsibly procreate are supposedly owed a nation's birth certificate? If you believe that then really, you could never put yourself in the shoes of those people, those leading and doing their best for their country; I can assure that Kristen has not either.

    People,
    I just want you to think for a second. Think about yourself, your life, your age, your past years, your memories, your thoughts, your dreams, your past. You wasted all. You wasted your life, your time, yourself. Just take a look back. Just think for a second what is going on around you, whats going on with people, whats going on in the world, whats going on in the universe, for god's sake. Have a meaning with yourselves. Think about around. You are not inadequate in any way. But be aware about it. Stop it with social media. Stop it with the harmful aspects of society. Stop with meaningless. Look around. We need you people, we need each other. We find questions and give answers for it. We find the problems, and we find the soultions. We go to space, find another planets, we make art, we predict the future, we make technology, we make music and sent it to the extraterrestrial lives out there. Be aware. Don't waste your life with meaningless. Wonder, search, investigate, discuss, create, and think. Reach sensible results. Find the meaning. You're not late. Young people out there, we are the future. We are going to find new questions and we're going to answer it. Stop with the meaningless popular culture, and dumb sides of society. Realise things doesn't matter. See the people are you as humans of your own kind. Not black, not white, not indian, not mexican, not italian, not ugly, not beautiful, not poor, not rich. Human. Earthling. Friend. Young people, we are the future. Do your best.

    In the United States you cannot get help with a place to live unless you already have a place to live. If you are receiving aid to live somewhere you cannot get help with getting an education to get out of poverty because you you make too much money receiving help with housing. That is with a birth certificate. The problem of human rights in a country that has them are legislated away because you are poor.

      Last major pandemic, 1919, came from a poultry farmer in the USA. Recent SARS disease outbreaks came from camels and civet cats, this current pandemic indicates pangolin and bat.
      Measles, chickenpox, flu, common cold, smallpox, AIDS, ebola, leprosy etc all came from our lust to kill, eat, control and abuse animals and destroy their habitats. We should stop doing all that in every country.

      If you could fly, while no other human beings could, then you would be in great danger. Governments, mercenaries, and corporations would hunt you. The people you know and love would be in constant danger. Your only hope would be to keep your ability secret, but if discovered, your only salvation would be a willing acquiescence to exploitation in the hopes that the faction with which you aligned could protect you.

      Just so you know, zoonotic pathogens come from all kinds of animals. So _all_ animal farming and habitat destruction are directly connected to outbreaks and pandemics. Last major pandemic, 1919, came from a poultry farmer in the USA.
