Make a simple roller speargun

- Just found this video better explaining the milling and prep of a spear gun:
• How To Build a Wooden ...
It's a very different gun than the one I fabricated, but I'd like to make a more detailed video about the speargun that I made with a lot more detail.
This is a little video showing how I made a simple roller spear gun. This prototype is actually the second version of this gun. I'm using cut-off teak material to make these spear guns so I'm playing with different way to reinforce the laminated joints. I really enjoy making functional things from scrap trash and hope anyone who watches can learn something as well. This is definitely the better of the two spear guns I made but there is still a lot of room for improvement. If there's one thing I learned about spearfishing, is that the gun does not make that much of a difference but how long you can hold your breath definitely makes a big difference. If there is enough questions, I'll upload a video with commentary.
A lot of the techniques used came from other youtube makers who I have to give a lot of credit to:
Mathais Wandel shows how to make dowels
• How to make the dowel ...
Jimmy Diresta shows the many uses of his ice pick
• ✔ DiResta 100 uses for...
I like to watch Derek's Deeper Perspectives podcast to learn how to shoot fish. He's a real diver and also makes nice wetsuits. www.hiheatwetsuits.com

• Deeper Perspectives Ep...
The builds were definitely inspired by a lot of these makers. My spearfishing skill needs a lot more improvement though. I definitely need to improve my bottom time.

Thank you for watching
Respect. My hat is off to this gentleman for taking the initiative to build this. Excellent work sir.
dixee6 thank you sir. Please check out my other videos if you have a chance. They need a little love haha. Hope you have a chance to build one for yourself. I was only diving for a couple of months when I made this gun. I think it actually helped me understand how to use this tool while diving.
Nice gun. I've been wanting to build one myself. I'm in Cali also
It's not too bad to build a gun. A lot easier than making other things haha
Very interesting video, and it sure got a lot of views. Cheers from Denmark
Thanks Jesper, I guess the spearfishing gun making market is pretty small. I guess I should make another video but I also want to avoid being a spearfishing only channel
Not a bad first video! Im all caught up with teh WB channel now :D
Haha thank you. Im still working up to your level of storytelling though. It’s really fun though.
Its for sale? Howmuch?
That was awesome. Good job
What made it awesome?
GREAT! Now I gotta learn to swim so I can spear stuff. Thanks a lot.
😂😂😉
Learn how to swim then learn how to swim with sharks!
are in sale whats the price?
That one second at 4:40 where I’m worried you’re sipping darts into poison. ☠️
It's been a while since I've seen this video haha. Epoxy coated teak dowels taste good every once in a while
Show de bola essa arbalete 👏
Bryce... I need to make a speargun now! You have plans for this?
I do not but I do have a few blanks haha
I also have extra guns if you ever want to go.
Would you make me one please?
Nice video and great gun! well done! Question. I am building a Mahogany gun at the moment glueing up 5 lams and sticking together as I saw most people did it this way. What was the reason for inserting the dowels? Thank you!
Ben Argeband thank you for the comment. The dowels are just to help reinforce the lamination. Probably not necessary but it also gives an aesthetic look and can only help the stability of the wood with time. The wood I used was recycled and is actually cut offs of a teak dining table. The way the grain was running I was a little concerned about warping and moving around. Teak is pretty stable and this gun has held up. I guess I won't really know if the dowels were necessary until I make one without it. I have heard of other guys delaminating though, and I think most of that would be due to bad prep or wrong glue.
ahhh - I thought this was just 1x solid piece of wood! thank you for the clarification. happy fishing! :)
adding text to educate the steps will be really beneficial. dub over some voice explanation too to further illustrate what you are doing.
Can you tell me where you bought the trigger and all the pcs? Thanks
I bought almost all the parts from neptonics. Sorry it took me so long to respond.
Muy bueno amigo..saludos desde barcelona...🙂
Muy buen trabajo!..
nice video, do you sell Spearguns
Unfortunately, no. I have thought about it though and I’d like to encourage people to make their own spearguns. While that’s not possible for some people, most people know someone with a table saw and router. I thought about posting plans free for download but it’s a little tough since I build my spearguns out of scrap wood making stuff is really just a hobby. Spearguns would be a hobby subset of that hobby haha.
Wanted to learn and made one myself!! are you in CA?
San Diego specifically
I’m thinking about adding another video. What do you think you need a little more exposition on?
@@wafflebeaver Never been into any wood work before... Just thinking it's a cool thing to made my own spear gun. I am in LA can drive over there If you feel comfortable with teaching a beginner lol.
Nice gun..
Could you make one for me and tell me how much is it in dollars if I want to receive it in Egypt - Cairo?
With my thanks..
Sorry. I wish I had the time to make one of these and send it to Egypt. Unfortunately, I don't have time to make guns right now. I also don't know how much it would cost to send to Egypt. If I do have time later in the year, would you be interested still. What size do you use in Cairo?
Sir i m interested in ur speargun i m from india
Olá fera que madeira vc usou pra fazer esse arbalete amigo?
It’s reclaimed teak.
@@wafflebeaver obrigado amigo grato

Bos bole order 1
Nice reef looks like Oahu or kona grounds and the fish too I’m from kona, bro what’s all the dowels n pins you put in the gun for? How did you put the rollers in and stuff?
Yeah the footage is from Oahu while I was living there. I made this gun about a week before I moved to San Diego. The dowels are made because the teak I used is bunch of laminated teak. The dowels are there to help keep the wood stable. The roller is simply from a sailing sheaves through bolted with stainless steel nut and bolt. I've since modified the rigging of the bands. I now have the bottom tied to a cleat with dyneema rope. This way, the bands can be used with more stretch. I guess I should post a video of it works now.
where are you from bro.? nice work
Wafflebeaver 808 ya iam actually spearguns maker in Bali island Indonesia but not producing in big amount. just for my friend or I take some order. but most I used manual and simple tools. really like your work bro. definitely you much better than me. very inspiring for me
D' Jack I'm actually sure your guns are good. This was only my second gun. I don't make these in production. The parts are kind of pricey for what they are so I'm starting to make the stainless parts. I may attempt to mill a trigger mech soon as well. I'll try to record and show how to do that.
Hello Im from indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
Nice to hear from Indonesia, I always wanted to visit.
Зачем с таким усилием забивать штифты через триггер?
Сделай пару десятых в плюсе и всё. А так нормально, руки из плеч))
simple and yet you did it on a special tools.. haha
boomtata pisot haha what I meant is that the speargun design is simple. Tool wise, most of this was made with a table saw drill press router and chisels. Still a garage shop but I did make that router table.
@@wafflebeaver how did you make that table?
@@emmanuelshalemkedar8964 the router table is a cut off box/cubby. The top is a piece of plywood with toggle clamps holding the router base to the top.
@@wafflebeaver ok tanks
@@emmanuelshalemkedar8964 thank you for watching and hope you can figure out how to build a custom speargun for yourself. It's simple once you break down all the individual task.
I was very worried about your fingers be careful when using sharp tools!
I've been working with sharp tools for a while and I gotta remind myself that sometimes I'm overcondfident at times.
Simple? Spectacular but anything but simple.
Nice...Sub’d
