- As part of my B.Tech/B.Ed, I had to build an HSC Industrial Timber Major project within a 6-week timeframe. Part of the submission was to make an 8-minute video detailing the build process and incorporating a critical analysis within the commentary. #southerncrossuniversity August 2022

Awesome video brother. But? How do you balance the gun in the water?
The weight of the spear shaft will hold the gun neutrally boyant in the water, if it still floats too much you can add extra weight to the barrel by drilling holes and filling them with lead, or you can increase the diameter of your spear shaft which will add more weight. If it sinks, you may need to add buoyancy tabs/wings to the fin stock. This one ended up being pretty spot on, it floated slightly so I've put a bigger spear shaft in and now it's neutral.
Does tilt forward slowly in the water or sits horizontal?
I was told it needs to tilt slowly forward for trigger pull
@@garrywagener4358 Not sure what you mean by tilt forward though, sorry, but ideally you want your gun to sit fairly flat (neutrally buoyant) so when you extend your arm under water you don't have to fight to hold it in place. Cheers
what did you use to laminate the timber and how's it held up over time? cheers
I used a clear marine-grade epoxy, the kind of stuff boat builders use. No problems, no movements, still perfect joints with no signs of delamination. cheers

Thanks, the plans were specific to the hardware I chose to use, best off deciding what hardware (trigger mech, shaft, etc) then design your gun accordingly.

Hello, I am building my own speargun and need help on how deep I would go with the router can you please tell me the depth of which the shaft seats at the trigger
Hi there, it depends on the diameter of the spear shaft you intend to use, and what trigger mech the shaft will lock into, but from memory I think I set the router cutter to half the depth of the spear shaft.
What were the dimensions of the stalk prior to shaping it? Or does it even matter as long as the trigger mech fits?
Totally depends on your design, you can have various length guns, however, you want enough thickness to ensure your gun stock cannot bend or twist under load
Hi, I was using the same trigger mech and was needing help to put the safety switch as it wouldn’t stop me pulling the trigger. If you could show me a guide I would be very grateful.
Hi there, I don't use a safety switch, so can't help you there. Personally I find it much safer to treat every loaded gun as "unsafe". Not only does this mean I won't line up a fish and miss the shot because the safety is still on, but I will hopefully behave much safer knowing it's ready to fire and not being lazy relying on a safety switch that may or may not be working correctly. Meanwhile, the manufacturer of the trigger mech should have guides available on their websites.

Hi, if I make a wooden speargun wit 3 horizontal laminations would that be OK?
As long as the overall thickness suits your requirements, yes. However, 4 is better, but I wouldn’t use less than 3
@@andrewcoates5438 it 3 mahogany laminations at half inch. My dimensions are 1 5/8 x 1 3/8. Is that OK?

Safety?
I've been diving for 20 years and owned many spearguns, only used a safety on my first gun, haven't used one since as I prefer to practice safe diving than to rely on a safety that might fail... also, everyone knows what it feels like to line up a fish, squeeze the trigger and nothing happens 😂
But yes... This mech can have a safety installed got this who use them. Thanks for watching
