I owned the successor to the V8 - the supercharged V6 with the DSG twin clutch gearbox. What a brilliant combination - no turbo lag and whip crack gearchanges. Just as quick as the V8 and a lot more economical.

Matt, I love the way you approach car ownership. There is nothing like looking after a car properly with the required service requirements and when something needs doing, getting it done. Like the adage ' Look after them and they will look after you' a car like this is a 'keeper' and when eventually sold, you will reap the benefits. I like this Audi in a similar way I like the V6 S4 of the same era, particularly as an Avant. Pity about the heavy yearly Government costs in UK though - we don't have those excessive charges in Australia - yet!

I think I commented on the first video of the S5 that when they were new I didn't appreciate how good these are. I did get sucked into the "Audi's all the same and are boring" thing, but given some of the designs we get, I can see how Audi knew that subtlety is timeless. It looks as classy now as it did back when it was new.

If you want high performance motors let alone V8's they cost a substantial amount to run and keep it nice. So you've got to be prepared. No point buying it expecting nothing to go wrong. Cars go wrong. More power, more cylinders, there's more things to go wrong unfortunately. However owning a V8 is just the best feeling though! ❤️

I'm not really a fan of the government manipulation of driving choices in the UK/Ireland. They make it "cheaper" to tax, run and insure smaller, fuel-efficient, newer cars to stimulate the global manufacturers new car sector and supposedly "improve" the environment, when the carbon footprint of constructing, delivering and putting an additional, new car on the road is far higher than keeping a controlled number of well maintained and serviced older cars in use, which would also benefit the local communities and economies of small businesses which service and maintain the older cars. Plus the fact that 20-30 year old BMWs and Audis are so much better than the plastic garbage they put on the market these days

You’re pricing for a lot of this stuff has been well off.
For example £250 for the door latch? Nope.
I had this exact issue on my 2009 TT a few weeks back.
£34 for a brand new lock mechanism off eBay and just an hour of my time. Using a TH-cam video it was a super easy job

Interesting car. Until you mentioned the road tax, good grief. It has a superb shape & look for sure. Agree it is luxury & near enough supercar performance. Good video. Will browse the other channel. Thank you Matt.

As you asked Matt, Jaguar XK or XK8 beats it hands down all round. Less common and quintessential British!

You love your new/latest car for a couple of weeks, and then it's just another car. The difference with this one is it costs a fortune to fuel, tax and insure. I'll stick with my old passat estate - 50mpg, £35 tax, low ins group, boot for all occasions

Unpopular opinion but I would always prefer a (dry) belt over a chain. At least you know where you are having them replaced every 60k miles or so.

Don't quote me but I recently heard VAG, in the last year or two changed cambelt change intervals to minimum 130,000 across all VAG cars in UK? This is in line with Germany service schedules that have always been like this. Anyone else heard this ? @highpeakautos ?

Road tax is the killer for these cars, they are too juicy to run every day and if its a weekend-only car and you are not doing many miles then the tax works out horrendous.

This Audi reminds be of the Maserati Quattroporte that i was once foolish enough to buy and try to keep
    on the road.
Everytime something expensive failed i would say that's it, no more four figure bills.
These types of cars are great with they don't have issues but that doesn't last for long.
A trader told me that the rule of thumb is never buy one that has done close to 100k,
this is when they start to require major repairs.
That rainy day pot will not last long, then what do you do ?

  • @josephgittos3787

Strange how people say Audis are reliable but most issues like these are on the Range Rover evoque , I had door lock issue bought one off eBay £30 also suffered from timing chain issue and injectors issue
