No matter what John says, I felt the way I felt about Jordan because of the way he played. Basketball was at back in the 90s. Michael would abuse this guy's. There was nothing like heading into the fourth quarter and watching MJ take over the game if they were behind. When MJ hit that switch to get into another gear was just beautiful to watch.

One thing I noticed about former “Bad Boy” Pistons is they always downplay Michael Jordan while at the same time worshipping those 1980s Celtics teams.
I see it here where Salley puts Larry Bird in his all time top five (which I agree with btw) as well as seeing Isiah Thomas drool while speaking of Larry Bird and Kevin McHale on NBA TV whenever he gets the chance.
Those former Pistons do NOT respect Michael Jordan. They have nothing but love and respect for Larry Bird though.

John Salley could make a point if what he is saying actually made sense. To many facts to dispute all in one setting I’ll counter his argument with just a few facts.
    1. He takes pride in saying how the pistons stopped MJ and the Bulls in 88,89,90!
Here’s the thing The Bulls dethroned the pistons but did the pistons ever dethrone the bulls and at what time did MJ’s Bulls ever get swept by the pistons but the pistons got swept but the Bulls so this point is moot, but what isn’t is once mike got past the piston they never looked back and the pistons could never get back because of the roadblock Chicago became to them!
    2. Bill Russell’s 11 rings.
Sounds great but he got 11 rings in a league with 14 teams and at the time he was one of four big men over 6’8”. Mike got 6 in a league with 30 teams talk about the competitiveness of the league at this point verses when Bill played.
    3. 3 Mike has 6 NBA championships
6 finals MVPs (undefeated in finals play)
    10x NBA scoring champion
Lead the league 3x in steals
    9x first team defensive
    10x all-star
    5 league MVPs
1 Defensive Player of the year
Now compare Russell, magic, Kareem, West resume to Mikes it falls short....note Kareem is the leagues all time scorer but he played 20 years Mike only played 15
    4. The ridiculous nonsense that stern used mike and made him the face of the NBA. Well who else was doing what mike was doing in this time frame that could have been used? I don’t think Salley for one could have filled the role so it’s not about just putting someone in the spotlight it’s about earning the spot in the light and mike did that.
To sum up everything to me it just seems as if Salley is a Mike hater. I’ve heard better arguments made for Lebron being the G.O.A.T than the foolery he just spoke.
At the end of the day it is his opinion.

@Joel Villarreal Thank you Joel his argument about less competitive makes no sense as there were fewer players thus tougher competition. Also even though there were fewer big men you did have Wilt Chamberlain and Nate Thurmond. Chamberlain was the greatest offensive big man of all time and Thurmond was an amazing bballplayer. If mere numbers are so important to you Ben why don't you talk about Chamberlain who averaged the same per game in his career as Jordan and 22.9 rebounds a game for his career. Why don't you talk about the Big O who averaged a triple double for an entire year with 12.5 rebounds 11.4 assists and 30.8 points per game in 1961-62. Oh thats right those were the years Russell was facing a water downed league

Salley downplaying Jordan is laughable. And him thinking Jordan doesn’t know he was the best to ever do it makes me think he rlly doesn’t know Jordan. Salley couldn’t stop Jordan once out of 100 times . Nobody has ever played to the level that Michael Jordan played.

THis dude & the Pistons were allowed to hack players. And he thinks that was skill? Just because it took 3-4 goons to stop Jordan doesn't mean he's not the GOAT. THere is no player who did better against the Pistons than Jordan. So, I don't get his POV. THey didn't play basketball, they were playing football w/ very limited skilled goons like Laimbeer, Mahorn, himself.

Back to back champs tells me the Pistons were anything but 'a bunch of goons'. In the long run, MJ may have done better against the Pistons than anyone else but that isn't saying much. Against Detroit's Bad Boys, Jordan's 30 ppg dropped to 24 ppg. Look it up.

He wanted higher than the league minimum after the 95-96 season but his stats were that of a league minimum player. For the Bulls that season, he averaged 2.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.9 assists while shooting 34% from the field. Why would he not take the minimum? He would have won 2 more rings if he would have stayed with the Bulls. Those titles would have translated to much more than 350k. He could have been a SIX time champ. Also, why is he comparing himself to Robert Parish???? Parish is a Hall of Famer.

You missed one of the key points he explained. The league bent over backwards and turned Jordan into the Golden boy. That's why there's many vets and superstar players that are not really impressed by his accomplishments. Unlike most players, Jordan had most of his stuff handed to him or easier in his favor to win. And it all started after he won his two championships.

    • @MrTripLBee
      @MrTripLBee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

But it took him 7 years to get that first championship because his team was not good enough to be a prime Lakers team, a prime Celtics team or a prime Pistons team. When those teams aged his Bulls feasted off of a mediocre league.

Jordan vs Bird, on NES... The first basketball game I got for my Nintendo, in 1988... Then in 1992, it was Tecmo NBA Basketball, the first fully licensed game, with 12 players on each team, all 27 teams (at that time) and league approval

But nice revisionist history on your part lol . And you are letting you millienial ignorance show through? The Pistons WERE NOT old or injured Isaiah Thomas 29, Joe Dumas 27, Rodman 29, Laimbeer 33, James Edwards 35 average age 30.6????? That's old huh? The three biggest stars were all under 30? Nice bs excuse you tired to use, but you failed miserably. Don't worry not the first time I heard that lame excuse. And btw NO ONE was injured either!! You see I actually watched these games unlike you. And yeah you're right the Pistons would have went to the finals in 91, but..... oh yeah the Bulls swept their asses! Lol now that was a spanking! Uninformed one! Lol And then the classless bad boys walked off the floor ( right by the Bulls bench) before the game was over. Led by MJ hater #1 Isaiah Thomas.

Sally has always wanted the attention he never got. As a player, I believe he thought he was better than he was. Nothing wrong with it, confidence is a good thing, however, self awareness is important. Plus, as a Piston, Michael was the reason the Piston stopped winning.

I believe Jordan teammates hate the fact that media portrays Jordan as the main reason why he won 6 championships. But I believe that there are more than 1 big reason: 1)Phil Jackon, 2)Scottie Pippen, 3)Dennis Rodman, 4) The bulls were the best team by far, a superteam hands down. Without Jordan they were still championship contenders. 5) The bulls had no threat, no more bad boy pistons, magic and kareem lakers, no more larry bird, which was pretty much jordan´s daddy, even MJ admitted that. Its like Bill Russell rest in peace goat, said: Oh Im the goat, fuck my teammates, when in reality the 60´s celtics was the most unstoppable superteam ever. So thats the thing MJ was the best but he played along the best against low caliber teams. When the 2004 pistons beat the lakers, thats david v goliath, the same when lebron beats the spurs or the 73-9 warriors. Jordan didnt beat no all time team, he is the reason for me loving basketball but I wont deny reality. Prime Jerry West or Wilt Chamberlain on that 90´s bulls win 10 championships.
