Very nice how to video. I really appreciate you being so meticulous. I've seen mechanics cause more problems than they've fixed from their dirty practices.
changing wheel seals at 68000 miles is certainly out of character. makes me wonder if Meritor set the torque on those bearings correctly before the axles were installed on the truck. I like the performance of disc brakes better than drum brakes, but they can really paint the wheels in brake dust if one is not careful. That rotor and caliper really gave you a work out ! Stay safe and see you on the next one!
Whenever we had trucks hauling off fire sales dad always ordered extra seals because that carbon dust and particles just ate them up. We always used Stemco grit guard back in the day. Happy tree trucking.

From what I’ve noticed disc brakes stay cooler than drums and it seems like they stop a little better but that’s about it. Also was that you I saw at the traffic light yesterday in the pickup😂
Dont feel bad loosing a wheel seal my buddy that i work with lost the throwout bearing at 153,000 miles. He is really not happy!! See you one of these days!!

Thanks for the input Patrick. I agree the disc brakes sure can make some dust. Thank for watching.

You might be right that dust is pretty bad. Thanks for the idea and for watching

That's no good, I've been hauling down to Sonora, maybe I'll get down to Lincoln sometime. Thanks for watching.
As a driver I like the disk brakes, but now see how a mechanic would curse them.
They do stop really well, I guess anytime messing with brakes is not fun. Thanks for watching.
Like video and you w990
That caliper assembly looks like you are trying to balance a football
Just needed your help! Thanks for watching
Never drums again here, I run discs on all my trucks and trailers. To me brakes are for safety, not ease of maintenance.
Sounds like good thinking. Thanks for watching.
Obviously you don’t like the disc brakes.
make sure you're diff housing vent is clean and not stopped up
That's a great suggestion, I will check it out. Thanks for watching
Definitely my least favorite job no matter the brake setup. Love my disc brakes until this happens.
I think you are right wheel seals are no fun with drum or disc. Thanks for watching
