I've been a company driver for 18 years. Now I've become an O/O, and your videos really have shown me so much on how to work and fix my own truck. Thank you very much!
I'm both diesel and gaz engine mechanic from Iran. I love my job and I plan to migrate to Canada to become a truck driver. In my opinion anyone who wants to drive heavy vehicles in harsh conditions like ice roads, logging, etc. should be at least a medicore mechanic first, then attempt driving. You can't beg bears and wolves to help you when you break down in the middle of nowhere. BTW great videos. Carry on and let us enjoy 👍💪
@@TATEXPRESSINC also: I just got my seal replaced precisely in that rear corner, yet after less than 1,000 miles that seal is leaking again. What are the possible failure points that would cause that; I mean parts and what was done incorrectly during reinstalling the assembly that would cause it to leak again? Thanks in advance.
@@psuperpsychophreak if it's leaking after 1000 miles, the seal was not installed correctly. Probably damaged in the process by using wrong installation tool, cleaning hub or not torquing the spindle nut properly.
Not sure of your reasoning for these videos; be it educational, monetary or just for likes, but please accept my sincere gratitude bro! Hopefully all of the pre-mentioned things are there but let me add that you are literally helping me feed and house my children and grandchildren as well! Being a mechanic kinda fell into my lap, long story short. I was in another field and life happened, as it does sometimes. I say that to say, I had next to ZERO experience doing this. Your videos gives me the tools sorely needed and I appreciate you dude! Thank you!!! P.S. Your camera person needs a raise!!! LOL
I've learned so much from you , your vids give me the confidence and assurance at work. Love the energy you bring , its like im right there with you. KEEP IT UP !!
Your video's have been such a great educational resource. I'm currently in college working at getting my level 1 as a Truck and transport Tech and I really enjoy your in-depth explanations and details. Thank you for being such a a great instructor. Cheers!!
You truly have a gift for breaking things down to where anyone can understand thanks a lot this has been a big help to me in learning in my new role at work
Finally a mechanic that knows not to lube the seal when installing it into the hub. So many morons on here using forms of lube. Says on the damn box not to. Also, no need to fill the hub be for you install the nut like that. On the hub as you can see in the video when you're rotating it there is a 8mm Allen nut you can remove to directly fill the hub. And also that torgue spec is 350-400 for that hub locking nut. I can gladly send you specs. But the shop you're in looks good enough to have that resource. Also enjoyed not seeing you get that last inch of when you're trying to line the shaft up in the diff lol. Video edit. Good luck and happy wrenching.
The wonders of technology ! My '97 Pete had the old style bearing system, without the spacer, and when the bearings wore a little the inner race of the inside bearing moved ever so slightly outward , allowing it to spin on the spindle. Eventually all four drive wheel spindles needed to be replaced, normally meaning new axle carriers. An other option, much less expensive, was to weld new spindles on and a specialist was available for this. The new system put that type of specialist out of business. My '07 Pete had the new stuff.
What's up, man! I hope you're doing well. First of all, thank you so much putting in the time to record this video and share your skills with us. I'm working on my Mack Master certification through my job. This last week our instructor walked us through replacing wheel seals and drum brakes. Our company bought an old Mack GU713 on auction for us to practice on before they rebuild it. Total beater, but a great truck for us to get our feet wet, especially since it's been through hell and back; every step of the way we learn from the challenges that come with working a well-"loved" truck, haha. Anyway, when I came home today I wanted to see another perspective on replacing the seals. I searched "replacing drive axle hub" on TH-cam, and this was exactly what i was looking for. Man, you make it look so easy; I thought I was gonna throw my back out just trying to get the wheel back over the hub without a dolly. Thank you for all that you do and keep up the great work!! I look forward to checking out the rest of your channel. You just earned yourself a subscriber.

The guy that showed me how to do this didn't lean the axle up against the truck where it wouldn't fall. And for some reason he got his creeper out and was under the truck when he kicked over the axle causing it to fall across his shins. He was limping around the shop for like 2 months. Same guy when throwing drums away in the scrap bin gets his finger caught which causes him to do a 360 flip and land on the gravel parking lot. I helped him find his glasses and didn't give him too much of a hard time but when he went back in the shop the boss said why are you covered in gravel? and I lost it!🤣
I like that big drum you used. I'll make one for work. The fun part tho is when u working on a disc brake hub where u can't put it on a drum and got to change the seal.
When you remove the axle and take the hub assembly out, you can slide out the whole tandem out. This way you don’t have to remove the wheels one by one
The correct wheel hub seal driver locates on the step of the seal . I apply a small layer of #2 Permatex on the outside diameter of the metal style wheel hub seal .

Also clean the hub pilots up with a rust needler (Best outcome) or a wire brush or even sand paper to get corrosion away and use copper never seize to the spots the drum will seat after the tires have been torqued down, so many mistakes that can cause you hours in later hours of service in this video, i know its a demonstation but be realistic.

Awesome vid Bro!
i think i would have put the sandpaper to that tone ring & cleaned the windows as much as possible, the rest looks good, thank you.
Great Video Brother
Putting Lucas on the inner bearing and seal helps a little too
I generally pack both inner and outer bearings to ensure lubrication while the gear oil works its way back to the hub valley.
If I'm not mistaken, that's a conmet preset hub?
Bro .. great job
So it uses oil in the hub bearing from differential to lub bearings ??
Brother I watch all your videos ❤ I like the way you explain step by step but im missing one thing what size is the seal number I know every truck has different sizes but on Volvo what is the number would you please let me know thanks ❤
Good video but I'd suggest a hub without a bearing shim the bearing preload is tricky for people that don't know how
Great Video!!!!!
Thanks for the support Alejandro. Be sure to hit the sub button. We have more content to be released.
Thank you for your time and videos love them!!!!
NEVER use Sandpaper as it will pollute the oil and bearings leading to a failure. Use a Scotch-Brite scrub pad instead.
Funny how ConMet includes coarse and fine sandpaper with their wheel seals. But yeah I agree
I agree with alan. Ive used sand paper on over 200 wheel seals and i have never had any problems. Ofcourse i sand and clean areas with brake clean
👍 scotch Brite is the way to go.
I sand then brake clean them heavily no problem ever
Never sand without cleaning maybe
Have you ever used breakfree or is WD your go to?
Great video man, what size is that big socket for the locking nut, I got volvo and want to get one to do seals. Thanks
Very good job brother
Good stuff bro thanks for showing how it’s done
I have the same wheel nut what size socket did you use?
I have fluid stain on the bottom outer side of the hub only. Does this indicate a leaking gasket only? Or seal also?
Nice one bro!
When your finished with the job Is topping off the axle fluid necessary ❓
Thanks for your video. This helpful for me.

Hey boss I have a question, do you the torque that goes on a 1996 Kenworth T600 for the hubs?
Can you still drive it if it's a small leak on the inside tire? Great video!
Yes but Dot will stop you
Perfect videos buddy 👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇨🇦🇨🇦
What size is the socket to remove the axle seal 😊 👍
1 1/8”
The axle flange most likely 15/16" and spindle nut a 4" six point.
Thanks,good job👍
Great video boss! Just a silly question,
I'm a light diesel mechanic and we only use grease for bearings. I see you use diff oil. Can you explain why or which systems use grease and others gear oil?
Thanks
Wheel bearings in axles with differentials are oil lubricated.
Wheel bearings in trailer axles and tag axles can be lubricated with oil or grease.
Hi I was wondering if you did a video on how to replace those bearing races. Also we’re can I get a socket like that , or is it homemade? Lastly how can I look up torque specs on any make or model of truck/ is there a specific web sit or is it out of a service manual? Thank you
Yeah….
How did you fill the hub with gear oil?
Excellent I learned a lot. Thanks 💯👍
The oil for bearing coming from differential or it's putting separate? On a hub there is a cap, or oil putted there?
Thanks for the video sir!👍
