I'm a bass player of over 40 years under my belt. Jaco is well...as you can imagine...one of my most heart-close heroes. I've seen MANY people play 'Tracy' on different instruments (as well as bass, of course) - and this is hands down - the most beautiful 'adaptation'? 'rendition'? 'version'? ...whatever....next to Jaco's own - this is very best arrangement of the original I've ever heard/seen.....and easily the most ...can I say....soulful too. .and I've seen a handful of keyboard transpositions as well....very...very nice. Thanks for sharing. Cheers ~
Fuck me! This is the best interpretation of Portrait of Tracy I've ever heard. So beautiful. I loved the flair you added to it! I'm absolutely floored. Thanks for sharing this. Well done!
Hey there, I just had to comment on your cover of Jaco Pastorius' "Portrait of Tracy". As a huge fan of Jaco and his music, I was initially a bit skeptical about how a piano cover of this piece would sound. But after listening to your rendition, I can confidently say that you have completely blown me away. It's clear that you have a deep appreciation for Jaco's unique style and approach to music, and you've managed to capture his spirit and essence in your playing. The way you interpret the melody and harmonies on the piano is truly remarkable, and I love the way you use dynamics and expression to bring the music to life. One of the things that made Jaco so special was his ability to take the bass and turn it into a lead instrument, with soaring melodic lines and intricate harmonies. You've managed to capture that same spirit on the piano, creating a beautiful and soulful rendition of this classic piece. Thank you for sharing your incredible talent and creativity with us. Your playing is a true testament to the enduring legacy of Jaco Pastorius and his music, and I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us in the future. Keep up the amazing work! Your last name means cock in Swedish
Ce morceau est juste Magique.. c'est un des derniers titres que j'ai fait écouter à mon père quelques heures zvant de partir rejoindre JACO .lui ausdi etait un des meilleurs bassistes de sa génération..
This has to be my favorite performance of this song that isn't Jaco's himself. Absolutely feeling every chord, melody and intricacy of this one. I always come back to this one and use it in my game dev & cozier playlists. Thanks dude!
Best arrangement i’ve ever heard of the original! So tasteful, the discreet blues licks find their way so subtly and fit so well, im speechless.. bravo !
I'm 13 and this is the single biggest turning point in the way I view piano since I listened to Bill Evans. I thought piano was unexpressive, following someone else's work instead of expressing your own- but this is so amazing.
i came across your rendition while i was learning this for piano last year, funny thing is whenever i hear the piece in my head, it’s your version i hear now. you did a truly beautiful job 💜
absolutely gorgeous. I don't have anything else to compare this song to in terms of how it impacts my emotions. Can't articulate it well enough other than just to say it hits me at such a core level each time I listen. I would think it'd be hard to replicate this, but for me you have! great playing and great taste.
So beautifully done in the exact manner Jaco would have enjoyed hearing this, at least from my perspective as a fan of him. Amazing transcription and translation 👊🏼 👍🏼
okay i clicked on this video sayinng "portrait of tracy on piano? that cat sound the same" but like this is wondnerful im gonna see if i cant try to figure it as well now!
I like how you didn't just copy it note for note but added your own flair to it, yet stayed true to the spirit of the original. In other words, how all covers should be done.
Wow, great job, man. Was really curious to hear how this would sound on piano when the algorithm floated it up, and both your execution and the way it captures the tone and feel of the original are really top notch.
This is such a lovely cover, so moving. It’s like hearing all the weather and seasons on my window pane at once. Profound and very painful somehow. Well done!
Nice one mixing in some R&B vibes. Makes me think of the SWV track Rain but of course respect to the original. Just goes to show these producers are listening to and inspired by other genres.
@Chi840cken Unfortunately I do not have enough of a developed ear to truly transcribe these chords. Something to work towards perhaps, but it would be nice to play it sooner than that

Cool comment.
Best piano interpretation I've heard. This really shows what Jaco was going for with his original recording
Well done! It is good to hear this on piano. This instruments shows, with more clarity, how "Portait of Tracy" was such a great composition.
Fuck me! This is the best interpretation of Portrait of Tracy I've ever heard. So beautiful. I loved the flair you added to it! I'm absolutely floored. Thanks for sharing this. Well done!
Artful presence. Thoughtful. Sensitive. Slayer bruh. Really stark. Almost painful.

Your phrasing is really special on this, dood. Prolly the best cover around.

Amazing. You breathed new life into this Jaco classic showing his compositional genius by your amazing interpretation. Eternal thanks.
Wow. Someone else said it but I’ll reiterate - this shows how much of a composer Jaco was. Beautiful.
Best arrangement i’ve ever heard of the original! So tasteful, the discreet blues licks find their way so subtly and fit so well, im speechless.. bravo !
Miss the days when music was inspiring, glad to hear that some people still listen to it ❤.
Really a great interpretation of this fantastic tune ! I play Bass... and i never imagined it could be so beautiful on piano !!! Thanks 😃!
I was in awe as soon as you started playing, such a beautiful cover, I enjoyed every second!
Your cover remind me a lot of Robert glasper music. Great job
His recording is obviously iconic. But damn if it doesn't make more sense on the piano. Thanks, didn't know I needed this.

Those cascading notes in the beginning are just perfect
Yeah man. You killed it with this interpretation. Just the perfect balance of the original and your own take.
GOD DAMN HE KILLED IT

I like how you didn't just copy it note for note but added your own flair to it, yet stayed true to the spirit of the original. In other words, how all covers should be done.
This is one of my all time favorites 😍
Man, just how
Awesome..quite possibly the greatest melody ever written
Wow, great job, man. Was really curious to hear how this would sound on piano when the algorithm floated it up, and both your execution and the way it captures the tone and feel of the original are really top notch.
Really beautiful version. Bravo.
This is such a lovely cover, so moving. It’s like hearing all the weather and seasons on my window pane at once. Profound and very painful somehow. Well done!
Well, that was completely brilliant.
Masterful, beautiful; I think Jaco would have loved your interpretation!

Outstanding. Bluesy.
Great taste and skills.
I never thought of Portrait of Tracy other than on a bass. There's no other cover I'll consider besides this one.

If you like this, listen to Rain by SWV. It uses a sample from Portrait of Tracy and has a similar mood to this.
Whaat, i was just realizing it sounds just like that song, i thought it was coincidence
respect
Bom demais!!!
yeah bro. this is it
ladies and gentlemen this is how you play the piano jesus 🤌🏼🤌🏼
Great stuff. Do you have a transcription? Would love to learn this
Transcribe it yourself you'll learn it better
@Chi840cken Unfortunately I do not have enough of a developed ear to truly transcribe these chords. Something to work towards perhaps, but it would be nice to play it sooner than that
@@jonathanjocobo5654 best way to start developing that ear is to transcribe music
@@chi840cken6 Of course, although this is too much for me. Anything more than two notes and my ears flounder
❤️
