Another proof that Spain wasn’t spreading their seeds during those 300 years of colonization.
Filipinos got their Spanish surnames from the Catholic Church or from Spanish land owners.

The pre-colonial Filipino identity was stripped even more in November 1849 when the appointed Governor-General, Narciso Clavería y Zaldúa - spurred by increasing complaints from the Regidor or Treasury Account - issued a decree that forced the natives to adopt Spanish surnames in a bid to make the census easier.

Filipinos are more Chinese than Spanish. Read somewhere that maybe 3% of Filipinos have Spanish blood. Then a lot will say that we have Spanish surnames but that because we were forced by the Spanish to pick names from a book..

Do you even know that Hispanic is a culture sphere like the sinosphere . To be exactly many people from south America like your friends think that Hispanic is a DNA heritage or a ethnic group but that's not true,in south America like Cuba exist black people, white people, nativo and they belong to the Hispanic culture sphere because they native culture is mix with Spanish culture like the Philippines. Philippines is indeed 100% a Asian country like Indonesia and so on to be exactly Austronesian asian like Indonesia but different culture Sphere.

@@mr.cebuano2843no because South American and Caribbean Hispanics still are able to communicate through language. Language being the ultimate connector. Filipinos though having been colonized for over 300 years did not inherit the Spanish language thus being forever foreign to Spaniards and other Spanish speaking Hispanics.

Isn't this for true for all nationalities..not just Filipino? In every country of the world, there are citizens of diverse races. For example, there are Mexicans of European, Native American, African and Asian descent. In Denmark, there are Danish citizens of European, Middle Eastern and African descent. Even in Japan, there are Japanese nationals of Asian, European and even African descent. Your point that Filipino is not an ethnicity is not even worth stating, because ALL nationalities are not ethnicities. It is now the year 2023. ALL nations are composed of different races. Filipinos: Spanish is a term related to people of Spain, and Latinos are from the Italian province of Lazio. Although you adopted Spanish surnames, the Catholic faith and incorporated Spanish words into your native languages and dialects, you are genetically, geographically, and culturally Asian; being Asian has no disadvantages because the Philippine Islands are home to more than 185 different ethnolinguistic groups, each with its own language, identity, culture, customs, and history; as a result, rather than trying to hide your Southeast Asian heritage and identity, it's more realistic to accept it.
On the other hand, the Europeans conquered other Asian countries, but they don't call themselves French, Dutch, or Portuguese; you are the only people who recognize and honor your oppressive colonizers.

@@Rica I always thought that Filipinos look very similar everywhere but I was wrong. I grew up in Zamboanga City where majority look Hispanics. Of course, we need to take into account that there are more Bisaya immigrants now in my city so it's a bit watered down compared to how it was before but, we still look different.
Anyway, I didn't realize our difference until we went to Iloilo. I'm not saying that the Ilongos are ugly because there are pretty girls there too but it lacked the presence of many (I say many) stunning ladies that we have in Zamboanga. In my city, ordinary vendors, local workers, etc... look very attractive. In Iloilo, they look more Austranesians and their bone structures are different. Going up to Luzon, I have to say the Igorot people are just as attractive as the Zamboangueños. Luzon people have a distinct look compared to the Visayans and some parts of Mindanao. The Muslims in Mindanao also have a distinct bone structure (very attractive faces) plus 90% have Darwin's tubercle ears.

Around 3-4 thousand years ago many of them left Taiwan for the Philippines. Those who remained in China became absorbed into the succeeding Chinese Dynasties and eventually was fully assimilated by around 500 AD.
