Spanish last name was given to Filipinos for taxation. Back then Filipinos don't have last name, that's why Spaniards gave us the last name for proper identification. Very small percentage of Filipinos have a Spanish blood, only the higher class of Filipinos are allowed to marry Spaniards and mostly women or Filipina can marry Spaniards back then. Most mixture just happened recently because of globalization.

    • @beastmood6635

Spanish also married native filipinos in the past but filipinos that will get high spanish dna are mostly from rich filipino clans because they mostly married their kind, so the spanish in them keep high while those from native filipinos become smaller because they mostly married full filipinos.

Filipinos having Spanish names doesn’t mean that they are part Spanish. Their names were given to them by the Spanish colonizers. Just like the Native Americans and African Americans, they have Irish, English and Scottish names but it doesn’t mean that all of them have European ancestry.

    • @CrimsonMey

@@GameplayTubeYT probably depends on the place. I remember my mother say that surnames in Aklan got assigned by town. Like everyone from one place got a surname that starts with 'A' and the further away from the municipal center you are, the further in the alphabet your surname starts with. And I remember my history prof say that the original surnames were people of influence like local lords and stuff.

A 2021 study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) journal found that Spanish ancestry is present in only 2% of the entire Filipino population. Ultimately, the Filipino demographic “remained largely unaffected by admixture with Europeans

Spanish gave our ancestors the option to adapt Spanish last names for better tax collection purposes only. Pero they can also retain their last names if they wish to. Yung designation ay by province or municipalities. For example Bicol, lahat ng Spanish last names na binigay starts with letter D. It was also to easily distinguish what you came from back then.

Most Spanish names were given to Sangleys, or mixed-mixed (halo-halo) raced living in Philippines, like mixed Chinese, mixed Latinos, mixed Indian, etc. While others really have Spanish roots. there are still local Filipino names like Abad, Galang, Lapid, Macapagal, Manalo, Marasigan, Panganiban, Pangilinan, etc.

If you're someone who knows your ancestry at least to the 4th degree, you would have a pretty good idea as to how your ancestry results would turn out to be. There should be minimal surprises, if at all. Also, DNA results only track and compare where MOST of the OTHER results are concentrated, but not necessarily that they really originally were from that locality.

most of the commenters here do not have any idea about the meztizas and meztizos in the Philippines. Their skin is white, they have brown to light brown hair, brown to light brown eyes. They mostly come from the Visayas and Mindanao. They definitely carry the genes of spanish colonizers and/or other race from Spain colonies that came to the Philippines and intermarry. I, for one came from the south and have white skin, curly brown hair, brown eyes. My cousins have very light brown eyes. Characteristics not of pure Filipino. But I am completely Filipino and proud of it!
And to you vlogger, the vikings did not discover the Philippines. The only record that exists in history is that portuguese Ferdinand Magellan who was sailing for Spain was the one who discovered the Islands and it was named after King Philip II. Then Philippines was colonized by Spain for333 years.
If you visit the Philippines today, you will be amazed to see our people--ALL PRETTY ! EVERYONE WITH DISTINCTIVE PHYSICAL BEAUTY!

Precoloneal ancestors have ancestry from India, Greece and Middle East countries. The 3 group of islands are Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao. Luzon might have come from the Song Dynasty which were controlled by Chinese merchants, Visayas we believed was named from Sri Vijayan Empire which are majority Hindu/Mediterranean ancestry, Mindanao are majority Muslim and from the South Borneo Peninsula. The Spanish/American ancestry is 0-10%. The 40-50% that was missing in his DNA is Black. We still have the untouched Indigenous Black people called Aeta/Agta/Ati/Ita. They're considered the first migrant to the islands. They stay away from the drama of the so called European wannabes.

Philippines language belongs to Austronesian family, the ancient seafarers that existed 5,000 years ago. Great topic. But studies have shown that these "ancestry tests" are inaccurate for the most part. The reason why you can't take these "tests" at face value is because the results are just statistical inferences about your genome. They do not provide a standardized scientific analysis of your true ancestry. Scientific journals have published articles about this.
Your family history is a much more accurate way to determine your lineage. If you could get your hands on official documentation, that would be a huge help. Odds are, they're going to be offline- in your ancestral home and hometown in the Philippines. Based on your family background, you definitely are of Malay and Spanish descent. Probably part Chinese as well, because most Filipinos have a drop or two of Chinese blood.

FYI: when the Spaniards colonized the Philippines, they took away lands from us. The spanish documented it as theirs and the legit owners either worked for them or were killed. To register the remaining native Filipinos, our ancestors were asked to take the name of their Spanish masters to easily tell which slaves were from what land. There were Filipinos who were given options to maintain their clan name maybe because these are the powerful rich natives, the rebels or their masters are more humane than most. The Filipino mestizos have more prominent features and I don't want to burst your bubble but you are definitely not mestizo. NEXT, since we have land bridges during the ice age your descendants travelled far and wide. That small percentage of european dna got so small because your great grand(nth x) lolos and lolas opted to stay and breed in the Philippines for good. Now its better to learn history, a bit of science etc. before jumping to conclusions. Pogi points pa more utoy.
