HI , I have a 1994 peterbilt with a cat 3406b 3ZJ44897. About a year and a half ago truck broke down lost a lot of power and was throwing a huge amount of white smoke. Unfortunate for me I couldn't find a cat dealer that would have time to work on it. Took it to a mechanic I met at a peterbilt store, he said he can take a look at it right away. A few mechanics mention that it could be the nozzles so I took all 6 of them to speed up the process. He said that one was bad and maybe 2 more, so I had him replace all 6. After he replace all 6 the problem was still there. He had me rebuild the fuel pump paid around $4000. Still the same problem. He checked the turbo and it was bad, he told me that he only checked one side and it looked ok. Bought a Borg Warner turbo and he install it. I was expecting the truck to run a lot better but for my surprise it was nothing close to how it was running before. It felt like it was missing power loaded, specially going up hill. I finally took it to another mechanic and he claims that the timing was retard two teeth and idle the truck down since it was idling hi. I took the truck and it did run quieter or smooth but still was lacking power. I haul aggregates with a 22 foot dump trailer so a lot of times its on site work and hardly drive on highways. So it takes me a while before I can run loaded on hills or expressways. Any ways I took it to Peterbilt cause they had a cat teacher over there. And again they claim the timing was off and retimed it. They replace the diaphragm and some o-rings. But I still have the same problem, its still smoking more than normal and has low power. I did notice the manifold psi has little psi on lower gears and 12 psi max on 8th 9th and 10th gears. I will check with them and see if they did a fuel pressure and vacuum test. Ask if they did a intercooler leak test. Any advice would be appreciated.
White smoke cause more fuel intering to the chamber or less of air causing of lock of power! 1st make sure your air and fuel filter is clean. Boost pressure 12PSI is not enough! 1800RPM=15PSI up if below 15PSI check your air to air connection, maybe charger cooler leaking or one of the clamp is leaking during HI RPM. if everything is good and still low power and White smoke back to injection pump/governor timing and Valve lashing includes Jacob brake. And make sure follow the OEM specs.
Do you know what would cause 3406b not to idle. Any load and it shuts off. Like when air compressor kicks on or engine fan or a/c clutch and engine will shut down or start skipping. When you let out on clutch to take off you have to press accelerator and ride the clutch or it will shut off. Only does it once it warms up like it's something to do with oil pressure or something. Is pump wore out or is it something to do with Governor. Actually runs great when going down the road just won't idle
@@MachineHealer I've took the Governor housing apart on another scrap pump. Do you adjust it by the springs. I didn't really see any adjustments screws or do you have a pump for sale. Where are you located
Follow on my Facebook page. And message me personal then I send to you all the instructions how to adjust governors. I didn't put here a copy of instructions, it's complicated and personal.
There is a screw inside a nut shaped valve at the back of the governor that has a slot for a standard blade screw driver, screw it in tell it bottoms then there it out to a full turn! See if it helps! if not need to have governor work done, if your low idle is where it is suppose to be when you first start it up!
Hello sir I need some help I have a 3406c engine but I put a 3406b pump on it but on idle it smoke white gray smoke an on the high way going tru my gears it a lot of black gray smoke I change injectors an nothing change still smoke on idle an going down the highway
Sir I'm not sure if 3406B is fit for 3406c because I never try to do that, but I believe we have a little bit different in two kinds. Anyway past forward try to re-timing.
Thanks ulit sir,,
Sir I suggest long method po ang mainam na gamitin kasi ma ti test mo ang turning every adjustment, malalaman mo if tukod o hnd ang pg adjust mo.
Thanks sir, bago palang po akung bloggers kaya yan palang mga download ko. Hehehe almost 3month palang..
Too much fuel consumption and produce white smoke we learn a lot thanks for sharing.
Tamsak na host and waiting
good job bud.. good to see the process of this job. thank you
Good Work bro
A million thanks.
Thanks a lot, your video so much helping 👍👍👍

Governor is the main reason. Out of adjustment or Try to adjust.

@@MachineHealer ok sir thanks it start an run good just that it smoke alittle more than usual
Now is this advancing the timing, or pin timing the pump back to factory timing?
base on OEM
