i been watching from the beginning and i must say you have done hell of a job ,working on my own and getting few pointers from you i know its gonna turnout wright much respect for you and yours!!!!!!!
Hello well first off hope your mom is doing well and getting better, your write family comes first. Your truck is taking on a hole new look look forward to progress you done from the next video.
First off if you want to know if your on TDC, always check the opposite cylinder. In this case number six. If the flywheel has been put on wrong you can't be for certain the location of the piston. As with the compression stroke and the power stroke the valves are closed for a long duration. However if you check the opposite cylinder, both valves will be tight for a very short period and you will be in over lap. You need to have the pin in the fuel system first before you loosen the VTU bolts. It is easier to turn the crank than the pump. Always check static timing first, if the pin and bolt go in at the same time your dead on. If the pump goes in first, your advanced. If the flywheel goes in first your retarded. So with the pin in the pump, take a seal pick and feel the hole in the flywheel to see how close you are. I don't like being advanced more than 1/2 a bolt hole. Based on your VTU and you have a ATAAC, you have a late 7FB or a very early 4MG. The VTU on these slip in the carrier. You need to see if the carrier will spin inside itself. If so you will need to repair your VTU. Also the large spring likes to wear as well as the race and or snap ring on the spool valve breaks. The part number for the clip is a 8S8703 if I recall. I dislike this part as it is weak. Best to use a 0093101 clip, stronger. Now depending on what you have the later 7FB's put a screen in the front of the fuel system camshaft. It is made out of plastic and will melt or get loose over time. Or you could have allen bolts. Anytime you have the VTU off, always check the allen bolts and make sure they are tight and if you have the plastic screen, put a new one in. Never reuse the bolts that holds the VTU to the pump. I have seen reused ones break and spin the pump out of time. Best way I have found to set the timing is with the pin in the pump. Put a seal pick in the flywheel hole and back the engine up until it locks up. Use a long cut off bolt to line the VTU back on the pump. If you wish to advance the engine. Pull the seal pick out and barley turn engine backwards a little more(not much). Tighten the VTU bolts, they torque to 41 FT LBS. Pull the pin and the pick out and back the engine up at least thirty degrees. Now come back forwards and recheck your static pin timing. Again pin in pump and see where hole is in relation to which side you check on the flywheel housing. If you like it, put it together. If not leave pin in pump, loosen VTU bolts and start over. On the nozzles, by replacing them have seen a engine lose one hundred HP. Old nozzles are worn and sloppy and dump more fuel on the piston. New nozzles are tight and takes awhile to open back up. Hope this helps, if you give me your full engine serial number I can check to see if you have the plastic screen or not. Been doing this for forty one years. Good luck.
@@timcanizares5240 If you have a 4MG03600 or higher. Get a very long 3/8 bolt (for all engines including 7FB's). You cut the head off and use it as a guide to slide VTU on. Once on put the three other bolts in, remove line up bolt and install last bolt. Get bolts run up, but still loose. Make sure, MAKE SURE, the carrier is pushed back. It will slide forward when you push it all the way in. Once pushed back you can torque the bolts, back the engine up and recheck timing. If you don't make sure it's seated back, you will be way out of time. On 7FB's and 4MG's 1-03599. The VTU is enclosed with a large spring to keep it seated. So all other engines, 5KJ, 3ZJ, 8PN, 7XC (Cat reman) and all PEEC engines you have to do this.
Nice looking floor! Its a shame the seat was right on the wall but sounds like you got plans for it. Keep up videos this rig is looking better every time. 👍🚛
Good work bro, my engine is cat 3406 c , it have some electronic sensors on the fuel pump, it’s makes too much trouble, I am looking for a mechanical fuel pump like yours.
I'm just really amazed on how much you have done in such a short time. @@MR75PETE not realy fix but if you pin on turbo side they say that's some degrees before my 3406c call for 14 degrees before TDC so pin on the turbo side will give me that 14 degrees before TDC
@@wiltonritchie Not sure on that, I have never worked on a 3406C only B model and E model cat. I always pin on turbo side and didn't have an issue, I set timing and did over heads with pin on turbo side. I know the 3406 have 2 holes in the flywheel, one is number 1 TDC and the other is number 6 TDC. Probably be best to contact someone that knows more about those C model engines.

Bro your mechanical skills are top notch. I would never be able to do this type of work.
I do ok, I grew up around a lot of mechanics so I picked up a few skills.
I bought the blue 359 Mr.Willie had. He really loved that red one you have.
Nice I never knew him I bought it from family but could tell the love it had. Good luck with your truck and thanks for watching.
