Hiring a driver in this game is op imo, I started with the small garage and 2 drivers. Now I have reached the driver limit and I can't hire more, they work like magic. Now my money is at 5,2 Billion without any cheats, mods, or save game.

Money really starts go grow after a while. Personally I am using a real economy mod to balance things out a bit. I find it unrealistic go make 30-50k on a trip. This way it's between 1000-5000 maybe 10k on a long trip with expensive cargo.

The traffic lights definitely could use some reworking. They need to make the yellow last longer (I swear it's only 2 seconds), and add a small grace period for the red lights of 1-2 seconds. Plus I think it's ridiculous how you always get the red light fine even when there are no cameras, and no police around.

After almost 10 years since the game first lauched, I'm still so in love with ets2. I remember playing ets was such a thing back in the days but now ets2 is really something unique. I have more than 3k hours playing and created a hard economy mod by myself (even though you can use the console to set the economy parameters).
I try to play as realistically as possible and I'm really really enjoying it a lot!
Board computers mod are a MUST TO HAVE for me but also the truck sound mods in which Kapitan Kriechbaum is a master. For free.
Hope SCS reworks UK one day an maybe adds Ireland as well. Also the BENELUX should be reworked too.
And most of all, I'm so excited for Heart of Russia DLC and the Balkans maybe. I really hope to see the whole Europe in a couple of years.
Not mentioning the possibility to wash our trucks and trailers and the opportunity to meet our drivers on the road, not just on the map.

So if you are heading East and back again, remember to top your tanks up before coming back.
(Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland also noticeably cheaper than Western Europe, if people are avoiding supplying Russia in their game because {gestures} reasons.)

I think turning of fatigue too early is a mistake. Having to rest helps exploring and taking in the beautiful maps SCS created and it's generally a good practice to familiarise yourself with the controls and dimensions of your truck.
Apart from that I can only agree. I often deliberately pick trucks I rarely drive and/or pick low HP engines in order to get a better feel for the weight of my cargo and the difficulties of different terrain. Also it may save a substantial amount of fuel when you haul a lot of lighter cargo.
If you want to have it a bit more realistic and you use a decent wheel don't crank up braking intensity and go for minimum sitffnes and stability. You will get in a way better groove that way saving fuel and going as slow as necessary to avoid breaking unless you need to to stop or go down a hill, plus it's very rewarding.
That said. I always wished the game would give me a bonus for saving fuel and brakes. I could go on and on. So much to consider than just going from A to B as fast as possible.

It doesn’t take too many to earn enough money to buy your own garage and a nice truck. Also doing the quick jobs, you don’t have to worry about other costs like fuel or toll, just get there in time and don’t damage the truck :) You’re also able to explore different areas of the map as you’re not ‘stuck’ at the destination, you park the truck, get paid and you’re done, you can start a new quick job at the other end of the map if you want…

It's simple: your original garage costs €180.000 to upgrade, wich means that each vacancy will cost €90.000, because you already have yours.
So, instead of upgrading the initial garage, buy another one, by the same price. Here we'll have a new garage, with 3 spaces for 3 trucks, each one by the price of €60.000. And after you complete the spaces for the 3 trucks, don't ugrade the garage, just buy another one. That's a better condition, due to the fact that if you upgrade for 2 more spaces, eacch one will cost €50.000 (the price to upgrade is €100.000), €10.000 less than the 3 space cost.
So, in the end, you'll have 2 garages, with 6 spaces and 6 trucks. And after that, now you can upgrade the 2 garages, by the price of €200.000. But in here, we have 4 spaces, each on by the price of €50.000.
And that's for the garage. Now we can talk about trucks:
Till here we've taken already €180.000 to one garage. If you get a loan, it'll give you €500.000, at max. So, in my case, I've bought, initally, 3 Scania 520S, 6x2, €173.000 each. If you make the numbers, for each garage, I've spent a total of €699.000 (€180.000 + 3 x €173.000). To reach that value, I've worked and got €200.000 by trucking myself and then €500.000 from the bank.
That's the way I've started and continue to do untill nowadays. It's a simple mode that everybody can do and explore in the game! 🚛

Very good and useful points here. One of the mistakes I used to make was trying to get the "best" engine and transmission and strap them on a chassis without checking the maneuverability. This would result in a bad engine/transmission/chassis combo and the truck would be stressful to drive. Another mistake, as you pointed out, is getting a truck which hauls heavy loads to haul normal loads - a total waste of engine capacity. Another mistake is wanting to drive only the top tier trucks like the Volvos and Scanias. The IVECOs are fun to drive too. The Stralis Hi Way for example, with the 560hp Euro 6 engine and 16 speed transmission on an 4x2 chassis, is a dream to drive. It's become of my favorite trucks - took it all the way from Hamburg to Aktobe, Kazakhstan (Great Steppe mod) - no stress. I wish they'd add the IVECO S Way as well. Also SCS need to update some of the engines. Many of them are old Euro 5 engines or ones with incorrect torque curves.

The game is simply too shallow to simulate the usage of certain trucks for certain jobs. It's best to use a low-medium powered 4x2 or 6x2/4 midlift for regular box cargo but there's no point in not doing so- fuel might as well be free and more complex configurations aren't any more expensive to maintain/repair.

Some of the things you mentioned I have also noticed. For me it is now first of all to always stay on the road and especially in tight corners not to hang with the trailer on any objects. Reverse driving is really tricky so far, because the trailer feels always moves in the wrong direction :-D. There is still a lot to learn, but it's fun and once the driving itself has become automated, that you no longer have to constantly think about how to do this or that, then come the other things. With an old man like me, everything takes a little longer. But at least I have over 40 years of driving experience in the real world. That also helps a little here and there. I take my time and, after a period of practice, I can start all over again with the experience I've gained and do everything better.

    G'day Milan,
trying to catch up on quite a few of the vids I missed during a busy & overwhelming time,
As until recently I was only playing with the Original ETS2 I have to admit I have always just been busy doing the driving & never bothered expanding the business with extra trucks & drivers, but now I expanded with some bundles that include the new Cargo Packs plus expanding my map to include France, Italy, Baltic & Black Seas as they were 70% off I'll have to look into expanding the business too.
1:53 "And I am running out of keybord keys" yep so many great fun & useful features that we are going to need an extra keypad,
After getting back into playing lots with my new gaming PC last year, I upgraded from a FX6300 + R9 270X to a R3 3300X + RX580, I am really enjoying your videos & they have been a big help finding those useful settings.

One of the things that made me enjoy the game more, plus appreciate and like all trucks, was maxing the HP out at 460-500.
Driving a MB, Volvo or Scania with a 600+hp engine especially when doing 99% normal loads, actually became insanely boring (and unrealistic) and since I usually just buy a basic trailer and stick with that nowadays, 460 is more than enough power.
Also prefer the 4x2 chassis since, it appears to be what the overwhelming majority of trucks use in Europe + the larger fuel tanks means less time stopping to fuel up. Love the XF105 as it has two 4x2 options, one being with a larger fuel tank.

Try out the IVECO Stralis Hi Way with 560hp, 16 speed transmission and 4x2 chassis. Smooth like butter. It’s ideal for various load types from normal to medium (not tried heavy). I know IVECO doesn’t have a great reputation but the Hi Way 560 has become one of my favourites. It was btw, Truck of the Year 2013! Sounds old but believe me, it’s fun. There are mods for that model too but I'm not sure how good they are. Maybe I'll try out one.
I am currently driving a Volvo FH 460 which is rather nice except that I find it noisy. The Hi Way on the other hand is very quiet and the gearshift is very smooth. I found it a lot more refined than many of the big boys, Scania and Volvo.

I agree with a lot of what you put into this Video. To this day, I use the quick jobs with supplied truck/trailer. Rarely use the Scania S 8x4. Just bought it because I could ;) I have a low end PC any way, but it does not spoil the enjoyment of the game. From the start, I used Quick Jobs. As soon as I could afford it, and had gained the skills to do so, I upgraded Garage, and then bought first truck, IVECO ASTRAILS. No paint job or anything, Truck as supplied in Dealership. I do not think (Unless they change this in future upgrades) that the size of truck and upgrades effects the game managerial side. Obviously, the drivers you hire, have a set of skills, and I go for the ones with Distance and High Value Cargo first. They made me lots of money in the game, whilst I was (Still am) using the Quick Jobs. I did a lot of driving in the Scania S 8X4 on free roam to discover the map. Some views are stunning, the detail SCS put into it is amazing, I have over a Billion in money and nothing to spend it on ha! Own all garages, Fully upgraded, and no more Drivers to hire. I used Promods to gain extra maps, like RUSSIA and so on, but have removed them, and sit back and enjoy the driving and the views. I love the Cut Scenes too. I could go on, but I think I can end it with this... (i) If you want a Fast Paced Racing game (ii) Use Cheat mods like no damage, fines etc..Then this game is not for you. It is a Simulator not an Arcade game. I have Cancer, so I probably will never get to play "Heart of Russia". The game takes me to places I will never visit in the flesh, and from what I read in comments, they are very close to the real scenery, obviously, changing scenery, Trees and plants are limited, though they do get repeated, you see the same trees etc.. and the AI traffic, same junction, different vehicle pulls out on you at same point of delivery. It just adds to the enjoyment side. I love the game, and have bought every MAP DLC and the Special Deliveries, Heavy Cargo and so on, and the trailer packs. To me it was and is worth it. I am not into the Convoy modes, I only have family on my friends list, we did a few convoys, but I prefer to sit back, drive and listen to the MP3's I add into the game, or the free Internet Radios which I also added to the game. Paint jobs ? Never bought one, always used my own, learnt from watching Videos here on the Tube. I have made a few videos for ETS2 and ATS on my channel, No where near as good as graphics in your videos, I am not working, and money is very tight. Oh that is another point, I have not seen another Simulator with the content and graphics at this price. Base game is very good value, and I think about 800% cheaper than most Simulators. Love your Videos Milan. Thank you for sharing them with your unbiased reviews/advice. And thank you for supplying links to the mods. Which, if we dont like a mod, we can always remove it. Thank you for the videos and please keep doing them, for me, this is the best channel for those reviews. - PHiL -

This video is really good. I just recently started playing, surprising how some of the things mentioned here I already considered beforehand. However, some "mistakes" mentioned are more opinions than anything. Sure, playing without mods to enjoy the base game is good advice (I myself usually have the same mentality with skyrim for example), BUT, ets 2 I found out is a game that has some features that can simply be improved, like traffic, having real companies and so on. I myself would just recommend if someone wanted to mod the game, then leave it at realism mods. Cheating or making the game simply easier at the very start makes no sense, but adding mods that help you get immersed into the world are a really good way to improve the game.

Here is some tips for people struggling with backing:
•Turn to the problem. If the trailer is going too far to the left then turn the same direction as the “problem”, to the left. If the trailer isn’t going left enough then the problem is the trailer is too much to the right, so you turn the wheel right some. Same the other way around of course.
•Setup is key, where possible try to set up for as close as possible to a straight line backup. Also not as applicable in game as real life but always take pull through straight forward spots that you can pull forward out of or straight line backs. A lot of new drivers irl make the mistake of trying the more challenging one or taking a closer spot so they don’t have to walk as far even if it’s more difficult spot and that’s when accidents happen.
•Trust your left(or right for right hand drive vehicles), it’s easier to see out the drivers side so as much as possible back with the trailer bent to the drivers side so you can see better where it’s going, just keep in mind the tail swing(especially American trailers/ATS). I personally irl and in game like to keep as close as possible to what is on my drivers side because then I know the tail won’t hit what’s on the side I can’t see.
•Try not to bend your trailer too much unless you have to, and if you do, for me at least a 90 degree back is easier than a 45 degree. So when backing with the trailer at an angle when the trailer is at the angle you want keep the wheel slightly turned in the direction you want the trailer to go, this will keep the angle. If you need more angle then straighten the wheel, it will turn the trailer more, then turn again a little the direction you want the trailer to go to hold that angle. Remember when straightening the trailer that it takes a little bit for the truck to get straight with it so you want to start straightening a little before the trailer is straight, kind of anticipate where the trailer and truck will become straight, longer the trailer the longer it will take to straighten where as shorter trailers will straighten up quickly, but also shorter trailers don’t need much angle to turn hard so they are more sensitive to input.
•When backing don’t worry so much about where your wheels are just watch the BUMPER of the trailer, not the wheels. You’re basically driving the trailer not the truck, just make sure there is enough room up front around you so the truck doesn’t hit anything while turning. Watching the rear of the trailer you will kinda feel where the trailer is going and you’ll know what you need to do.
    Hope this helps someone.

The only advice i can give, is drive as you would in the real world. Its a simulator after all, its meant to be immersive and enjoyed as such, especially if you are on the multiplayer servers where everyone just races and crashes into people. Just drive normal, and you will find it relaxing.
And dont be afraid to learn to back trailers up. I wish more people would do this, especially with doubles. I have gotten much better with practice myself!

I definitely have committed the red light challenge before, and I still sometimes do, even though I'm far from being newbie, you just sometimes get away with it, other times, well, you realize you had to be more patient. 😅
    Other mistakes newbies would do:
    * Not paying attention to the delivery time of the cargo: If playing with fatigue enabled, it's very important to manage your stops, do too many and you will arrive late, check your time with F6 or in the menu to see if you can rest this time or not, no matter how big that time left looks, you have to manage your rest stops or you'll be late.
    * Buying accessories to every single spot the Truck has a button for: Used to do this, and after a while, you learn that less is better, by all means of course modify it so it has your touch, just don't overdo it or it will look worse than how it came from the dealership.

    • @XerxesLangrana
      @XerxesLangrana 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I personally think it’s better to turn of fatigue simulation and decide for yourself when you want to stop for rest. This has saved me the sleep penalty and gives me time to plan my rest stops in way that I want e.g. if it’s a long distance job starting late evening, I drive till about 10.00 or 11.00 at night, then find a spot to rest (you can also set up your stops by adding pins on the map to aid the GPS), then I start again in the morning, drive the whole day until evening and then rest until heading out again next day. Works best for me.

  • @vladivosdog
    @vladivosdog 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

For skills (ADR, Long distance, etc.) you should first max out the long distance skill as you would yield higher profits from longer deliveries. Then, you can start maxing out ADR. High value cargo, fragile cargo, and just in-time delivery, you can progressively max out 1 each (as in 1 skill point in order: high value -> fragile -> just-in time, and repeat). Fuel saving should be ABSOLUTE LAST skill to max out since it only makes you save like up to 35% of fuel consumption. Besides, you's still get massive profits even without a maxed out fuel saving skill since refuelling expenses doesn't affect much of the delivery reward. I know this from my mistake of maxxing out fuel saving first and ended up bankrupting myself a few times. And once I got ATS, this time i tried maxing out long distance first and I didn't go bankrupt.

Also you are dead right about player not exploring enough of map part. I keep seeing people complaining about lack of small roads bla bla bla but It is just that they didn't try to explore the map enough. They only take the route of what the map navigation said when delivering stuff(Since just like real life the GPS will most likely only tell the popular and major road). Why don't they try to use some detour by driving out of a highway. It is always a great experience If you try to drive out of the highway to the smaller roads(If those roads did connect to where you are supposed to go only)Also mostly the job section at the menu will also recommend usually the job from a company in the city only, making more of these challenging company acess less well known. Before anyone complain, make sure they explore the whole map first, even the king of highway Iberia DLC has some challenging company acess too.

When I started I spent a lot of money on bull bar, and unnecessary spotlights, 8x4 chassis and all that. Now my trucks look a lot better because i dont have a million lights on my grille now

I still put 2-4 lights on bull bar cause going to Balkan without additional lights is a bit annoying. But yeah less is more

Well, there are legal reasons why 6x2, 6x4 and 8x4 exist. The game simply misrepresents more axles and more HP as a Need for Speed style "upgrade", which these things are not. The game should have a more involved job market that takes into account cargo weight and vehicle configuration type, which it already does, in some way. Eg. you can't accept heavy cargo with a two axle trailer, things like that.

I made a lot of newbie mistakes. I did take a loan and went all in with the best Volvo truck I could get. Needless to say, I worked on my own to pay the debt but I managed anyway. Maybe that's okay too, play your own way, right? What I am missing is enjoying the sights. I convoy with my husband and he drives real fast. But when I see picture icon, we stop so I get to take our photos!

I've been playing this game for years and started a new game 2 weeks ago and started off with a small scania and bought a few more from there. I just bought a nice looking scania S with low cab as my 5th and I like restarting. I just buy what I want since it's bear impossible to go bankrupt or have any consequences

back in the 1.32 days i used to always think of ets2 as some demolition derby racing game. Nowadays ets2 cant work on my laptop as its too poor performance and i dont even have like a good setup (steering wheel and all that) but i remember it was very fun back then. Of course last time i played on good pc before it got taken away i no longer made those mistakes.

  • @fre_

I still remember my beginner days of spending stupid amounts of money on expensive paintjobs, auxiliary lights and all............
Now I just keep my trucks cosmetically stock, although I have found the 6x4 chassis to be a decent balance between normal and heavy cargo, so I used that in pretty much everything I drive, when available
I also decided to challenge myself by driving a bone-stock Stralis with the 310hp engine, and boy that was quite something indeed

    • @anotheryoutubeaccount5259
      @anotheryoutubeaccount5259 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, the game simply doesn't take into account efficiency, legality and maintanance costs. This is why RL companies don't have a fleet of 750 HP 8x4 trucks for every job. More axles are needed simply to legaly hold a certain weight of cargo.

7:08 This is also some amazing advice for IRL driving. I may be young but I do already possess 10,000+ hours of driving at the age of 18 (started at 16 with a permit). I drive for money as a courier, I like to believe that I possess the kind of driving experience that not everyone gets at a young age. I have personally ran a few lights IRL just because I was going ten over and the intersection was coming up quick and the light turned red just before I passed through (I was speeding up to get through it as well). Totally could've been fined a couple hundred bucks for those times combined.

Tip: use sim dashboard if you run out of keys.
It's handy to set up a button dashboard or a navigator or a speed dashboard.
Note: you get 3 free button if you want more you have to buy it. I think it was around 10 dollars.
If you have bought it you can use multiple tablets or mutiple phones on the same account.
    Yes it works in mp

A good piece of beginner's advice is: if you can see too much trailer in the left mirror, turn the wheel to the left. If you can see too much trailer in the right mirror, turn the wheel to the right. That's what my instructor told me when i was learning to drive an artic in real life.

I have only played with the ProMods map, so i had it easier in terms of starting. I did a couple rounds with the default truck and spent all the points i got to long distance and valuable cargos. So very early I was able to pick up cargos that had to go to the opposite edge of the map, but pay like crazy. So I took out a loan, bought 2 new trucks and hired 2 drivers and while they did the quick, short stuff, I went on with the very long distance ones. After 2 or 3 I had enough money to pay off the loan at once and buy another truck.

Another common thing is players don't think about their trailer when turning and end up stuck on the inner guard rail or they drive the trailer through a ditch because they took the corner too tight

Hey Milan the video is great. And I have a question. How do you get like get a phone in ets2 as a map or something? I've been seeing slot of popular yt'ers use that and I have no idea how to get it. It could be useful for me since if I have to look at the map I have it next to my field of view instead of that map where you have to like break your neck like on the Scania S or R truck for example
Here's the timestamp that made me ask the question: 0:55

I am considering this game for my Steam Deck that is on the way. I loved Mudrunner and Snowrunner and hear many of my friends play ET2. I hop this will run well enough on the Deck. Brilliant video, it helped me understand what to look for when starting as a complete noob. Thanks 😊

Probably a bit late but I have the Steam Deck and yeah it runs well. I even setup my own dock to our huge 4k TV and ran the game in 2k @60fps, using the steam deck FSR setting, upscaling from 720p. It worked out great. Although you'll probably need a guide to learn how to use the FSR right like me lol. ETS2 on the go is awesome though.

I often end up crossing red anyway, the 250 or whatever it is, is worth my sanity after being stuck behind a bus on green, idk why they have such a hard time navigating traffic light crossings, its like they are always there to annoy me.

The first one is the main point. All my friend are driving around in fancy trucks while I have a low range one. But I'm earning the same amount from my other drivers as they are themselves.
Also, if you run a light when it's just about to turn red, stop accelerating and brake a little, you only get fined if you accelerate through
