    That's disgusting. I'm sorry, but it's simply absurd. I think those people don't wash their jeans because they don't do laundry to begin with. They're rich so it's not like they're working for a living, sweating and getting body fluids or dirt on them. Let them dig a ditch, sweat their balls off and NOT wash their jeans...yeah right.

      I know I'm like 5 years late, but they're talking about denim that costs like $450+, there's a little known niche "Made in America" branch of Levi's. Hilfiger isn't going down to Kohls for a 2 for $80 special on 511's.

    When you wash them they get nice and soft and faded - that’s the way I like them. And white vinegar smells awful. I had to spritz my Siberian Husky with it when he was sprayed by a skunk last week.

  • @95TurboSol
    @95TurboSol ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah I noticed a long time ago that jeans start noticeably fading by just the 3rd or 4th wash, so I only wash mine about once every 10 times I wear them and I don't use much detergent. Moving forward I will probably start using low heat or no heat when I dry them too and turn them inside out.

  • @intodarkness-jy6mp
    @intodarkness-jy6mp ปีที่แล้ว +2

    With casual jeans I’ll wash them but only after every 7 to 12 wears, you can say that’s gross but depending on if they get dirty or what your doing this isn’t really that gross. With more premium denim your gonna wanna go the extra mile certainty. I’ve had a regular pair of 505 jeans last me 6 years now and that’s with rare washing and constant wear, like how they have a beat look and still hold up nicely.

  • @20alphabet
    @20alphabet 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Levi's CEO says not to wash them because they aren't made like before when they were made in the USA. They aren't durable like the ones from the 1980s and before. They just don't last. Mothers would wash Levi's for a year before they'd start to fade, and then last another 5 years or longer of daily wear. Well guess what, Levi's determined the jeans were lasting too long. If the jeans lasted half as long, they could make twice the money! And that's what they did, they now use a thinner canvas fabric and use overseas labor. These factors are why Levi's today are inferior, and why the Levi's CEO tells consumers not to wash their clothes.

    • @20alphabet
      @20alphabet 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Yorker1998
      To an imbecile, I guess it would. You see, historically Levi's have been a mainstay of the middle class and below as daily attire. The major reason for this is that they last. Now if they're no longer durable like they were before, their market will disappear. Capeesh?

    • @Yorker1998
      @Yorker1998 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@20alphabet Your comment isn't making any sense to me. Your point was that Levi's is making lower quality jeans because they determined they were lasting too long before. So if their goal is to make more money by making lower quality jeans so that they wear out faster forcing folks to buy more pairs than wouldn't they also recommend washing the jeans since you claim the reason they don't want to wash them is that they'll wear out? That's what they want, right? To make more money?

    • @20alphabet
      @20alphabet 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Yorker1998
      I don't blame you, it's public school. Let me say it another way. It's a false economy in this instance. If they wear out sooner, they'll lose market share, as their base will go elsewhere. Understand? Blue-collar consumers don't say "Darn, I guess I'll just have to wash less." They say "Crap, I'm not paying for this junk."

      Actually they never fit perfectly if you don't wash them because the secret to a good fit is to have them shrink in the wash then through wearing them, stretch back out in the right dimensions to contour to your body. I thought his was a well known thing. Remember "Original Shrink To Fit". THAT is what jeans are, what made them so popular in the first place once the garment industry became more capable than it was a century ago and people had more choices yet still wear jeans so often as casual wear.

    Dryers are what kills the color and structure of your clothes. I only use a dryer for socks, underwear and clothing that I typically wear around the house or don't care much for. I hang dry the rest of my clothes.

      I go for high heat. They charge for 6 minutes for one cycle, and you could put money in the machine again. I go for (2 cycles) 12 minutes and it's 70 to 80 percent dry. I go home and air dry the rest. Socks, underwear and t shirt's I wear in, I tumble dry completely. I like to air dry everything but live in a small room, so it's not possible

      If you would be into fashion and would pay a substantial amount of money for a good pair of jeans say about 300 to 500 or even up to a 1000 , you wouldnt want them to get faded or make them less of what you paid for , its not a trend , its just a good idea , some people like to look good , now considering you ''just buy a new pair'' i assume you dont pay attention to all of this type of stuff, so why the fuck are you bashing people who do. But you know , odors go away , they're not ''unclean'' they just dont go in the washer , your comments about not washing our body is just plain fuckin stupid to be honest

You can get the same jeans for much cheaper most likely. There's no reason to spend that much money on jeans unless you're making hundreds of thousands or millions per year. I'm gonna be honest, nobody cares about what jeans you're wearing. What matters is how you wear them.

When I was like 15-16 I wore the same pair of jeans 5 days a week and noticed that after a week where I was too lazy to wash them, they didn't really smell, even though I had been wearing them constantly. I started doing research, and learned about just how remarkable denim is as a material. I vowed to never let myself ruin another pair of jeans by washing them until they'd shrunk or faded. I wash mine roughly every 6 months but nowadays my jeans last me for years and if you know the right tricks you can remove stains/get rid of odor without sticking them in the washer.

    This nonsense is infuriating. If your jeans aren't made out of tissue paper and/or aren't sewn together with spiderwebs, they can withstand *daily* washing and still last years. Granted, I've seen some pairs that seem to be made out of those materials, but my advice would be don't buy shitty jeans (and to be clear, that doesn't mean 'buy expensive jeans', it *only* means 'don't buy shitty jeans').
    At least the alcohol/vinegar spritz will have a real germ-killing effect, but the freezing thing is absolute nonsense that can be called out by anyone who has taken high school biology. And besides, a lot of that nasty sweat/grime/whatever smell is caused not by active living bacteria but by the volatile chemical components of the substances themselves, which will continue to stank up your wardrobe until you *wash your jeans* you dirty hipsters.
    Whoa, whoa, wait a minute here: Did she just sniff *brand new* jeans with the *tags still on them* that she pulled out of the *fridge* to test the theory about that says put your *worn, nasty* jeans into a *freezer*?

    Bullshit. I've been wearing Levis 501 shrink to fit for over 45 years and still have Levi Jeans that I still wear that are 20 years old. Perhaps, Levis is saying not to wash your jeans because over the years Levis's quality as gone down to garbage. If you happen to still own a pair of Levis that are at least 20 years old, then you can see what I'm talking about. Levis is not the same as what they use to be indeed. Hahahahhaa...don't was you jeans, pretty stupid comment since you would need to wash your original Levis "SHRINK TO FIT" jeans several times to get them to fit just right.

      +gmlasam I'm inclined to agree with you. I have two pairs of Levis that are over 20 years old and I have worn and washed them regularly. I should probably note that one of those pairs were hard denim when I purchased them.

    For those that don't know, there's a "Made in America" section of Levi's where jeans go for about 10x what you see in stores. They're obviously talking about those heritage pieces, not the $45 daily jeans we plebians purchase.

    When I was twelve in 1969 my new Levi's were stiff as a board and really thick. I would put on a new pair and sit in a hot bath, the jeans would shrink just the perfect amount, not too tight not too loose and the water would turn dark indigo blue. I don't remember exactly how long they lasted but it was a long time. Now they are crap just like every thing else you buy. You pay more and get less.

  • @debjotione

    This is ridiculous. It is well established that Levi’s cut the quality of their denim years ago to levels akin to cheap garbage shrouds toward a goal increasing profitability. The result is subpar, non-durable jeans the wear out in less than a year which forces you to buy more jeans. Even wonder why original 501’s from the 80’s or before sell for hundreds on EBay? It’s because those really lasted! Now Levi’s try’s to spin a myth of not washing your jeans by having Tommy Butterfinger profess to never washing denim because it preserves them; as if it’s the fashionable thing to do. That’s true, you shouldn’t wash em because they are cheap pieces of garbage that literally begin deteriorating once they touch detergent and water, pathetic! Levi’s, I hope your short term profitability stunt results in a long term stock decline into oblivion.

    They missed the most vital info and reason why you shouldn't wash your jeans: The level of germs and bacteria in a washed pair of jeans and an unwashed pair of jeans are just the same. Wash them only if you are sure that you dirtied them like when it is stained, when you sat on a greasy surface, etc. This CEO is probably mostly working indoors and doesn't have to clean his jeans every week unlike people who get sand and mud on their jeans because they always go out.

    Wash them in cold water and hang them to dry. If you're worried about color loss, toss a cup of vinegar in and let them soak for about 30 minutes before the first couple of times you wash them, then just wash like normal. (The vinegar sets the color- works great for red items also 😊.)
