As mentioned in the description....for this example I am not using any nitro but the same basic mathematical principles apply in calculating the percentage and ounces if you decide to add nitro to your mix. Just make sure you base your calculations on however much fuel you plan on making....whether it's 1 gallon (128 fl oz), 1/2 gallon (64 fl oz), etc. I do have plans to make a batch soon with some nitro in it. Any questions/comments please let me know. Thanks for watching!
Great video Chris! I had to buy my methanol by the five gallon pail and paid $76!! I bought mine from a VP racing fuels gas station. You got a great deal.
Thanks! The guy Mike (R/C Barn) who did his video on making glow fuel said he pays $6 a gallon for methanol as well. I was hoping for at least close to that if I could (figured it might be a little more since the prices of everything has went up). My wife's dad (former mechanic) happens to have family and friends who build/work on cars, hot rods, etc and they led me in the right direction. They happened to know a guy who sells VP products so that's how it happened. I definitely got lucky. I had no idea they had VP gas stations.
Great video hope more young new pilots see this to encourage glow powered model planes, R/C world Is not the same with electric motors, the glow engines gives another great part of the learning curve in this fascinating hobby specially for the most technically inclined guys.
Thanks so much! I had picked up some glow engines/planes a few years ago and had some life changes that halted things for a bit .. so just now getting hardcore back into it. Been doing electric for a while actually. I do think serious modelers/hobbyists should experiment with glow. Its kinda neat and takes you back to how things were in the early days.
Regular synthetic oil for 2T won't work - I've checked it on myself :) It mixes wonderfully with petrol, but not at all with methanol. It has to be dedicated to methanol. If someone doesn't have access, they can use castor oil for speedway motorcycle engines (necessarily 2T - 4T oils may have additives that don't mix with alcohol), but even dedicated for cosmetic purposes will do (it only makes it dirty). It can be synthetically enriched, refined, but it has to have a dedication that it can be used for two-stroke engines powered by alcohol.
Yeah that would be nice if it did... But I'm ok with using castor and the synthetic/Techniplate. Some of the older engines you gotta use castor oil anyways.
Simply put... Yes. I just did a comparison of FAI fuel and it'll save you about $8 on the gallon by comparing it to one of the popular vendors. And that's not counting shipping and hazmat fees. NOW, that's using the pricing that I found on materials (methanol, etc) so that of course can vary. Also costs are gonna be high upfront BUT you can make multiple gallons with it. Hope this helps!

Hello I was looking for one video like this to learn how to make my own fuel more efficient thank you for post this video my friend 😊
Thanks... Glad it helped!

Thanks for the shout out! Nice video! Mike
No problem... And thank you!
How long will,Fuel last? Stored in Garage?
As long as you store it in a good secure container it should do fine. Keep it sealed tight and away from moisture.

Is this cheaper than buying premixed?
