      Maaaan, I use my ND's alllll the time at Roles Flipped, even outside of using flash. Sometimes I don't like using high shutter speeds because I want a slight bit of motion blur with my subject, ND's come in handy to help bring that shutter speed down.

    Good stuff watched it last night first thing in the morning I gave it shot. I have the Sekonic light meter a 4 and 8 stop ND filter. The light meter really have given me a better understanding on setting the exposure. I still going to use the meter in the camera out of convenience but your explanation made it all easier to understand.

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good to hear @jhenry248 and I agree completely, it is "easier" sometimes to just use the camera and not fiddle with a light meter. What I have found, however, is that sometimes the image will look right in camera but when I get back to the computer, I realize my flash was a bit underexposed. A meter would have helped me nail that exposure. So yeah, depends on how "important" the shoot is, lol.

      Have you used clip-in's before @Teel ViZion? What's your thoughts on them? I've never used them and I've always felt they'd be somewhat of a pain when the moments came where you didn't need the filter, especially something like a 6-stop. Eager to hear your thoughts on your experience with them...

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  ปีที่แล้ว

      @STANDLEY SHELTON thanks my G! It’s funny, you never use an ND and I very rarely use HSS. These days I’m so used to using ND’s for my video that it’s second nature anyway to use one when shooting. I aways have my ND’s on me.

  • @photo2000
    @photo2000 ปีที่แล้ว

    Get ND64 6 stops peeps!! and shoot within sync speed!! BUT!!! sometimes, 1/200 sec shutter speed wont freeze what you are shooting.. like waves breaking on shore. For this, HSS can be useful.

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  ปีที่แล้ว

      For me @Photo, a 6-stop would be too much most of the time. I've found that a 4-stop is the most ideal (yet I don't have one, lolol). A 6-stop would put you at 1/125 if you were originally shooting at 1/8000, which wouldn't be the case a lot of times, and shooting below 1/125 when doing portraits runs a high risk of subject motion blur. Of course one could combat that by increasing the aperture but that's "fixing" one problem by creating another, lol.

    • @photo2000
      @photo2000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnthonyToglife yeah... I just decided that 6 stop would be the best, cause it would bet the background as dark as I would be likely to ever need it and combat the brightest day I would come across. And yes, to bring that shutter back up to 1/200... sometimes have to increase iso to 200, 320 etc. I figured best to go a little darker in ND rather than not enough... cause you can always raise iso if a little too dark, cant go the other way 👍👍

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@photo2000 but what if you only needed, say, 1/2000 sec to get your ambient where you wanted it to be, a 6-stop would put you at 1/30 sec - would you shoot a portrait at 1/30 sec or would you raise your aperture to get you to a higher SS? Neither are ideal IMHO…

    • @photo2000
      @photo2000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnthonyToglife oh agreed... ideally you would have 3 or 4 stop ND. Just a choice on whether you want to buy multiple ND filters for each lighting situation you are in, or raise ISO to get optimum exposure for shutter speed chosen. If you environment and light conditions are setting you shutter for most at 1/2000 sec for you desired aperture most of time... 3 or 4 stop would be best. Down here in Oz at peak noon, its always 1/8000!! I'm just a bit cheap, and would rather just raise my ISO a bit if shutter goes too low, and pull out any noise in post 😂

    Ever drop your iso to 50? 3 stop filter and drop iso from one hundred to fifty would get you your four stops.

    • @AnthonyToglife

      ISO 50 is artificial and depending on what camera I’m using, it may or may not have it. Great tip though, for sure!
