Adding more diy diffusion to the inside or outside of the softbox could have been an option or hanging a sweater over the middle of the softbox so the light wraps around the sweater or keeping the modifier where it was but feathering it alot woyld have reduced the light hitting the subject. I agree with all that you said, the black dish is a niche modifier vut i would also say its a gimmick unless its being sold for the purposes of reducing the power of the flash for better ambient mix light like you needed. Niche or not, im not spending $250 to throw away 2-3 stops of light. Also, if its a location shoot and you don't have tome to scout the location first, you cannot bring every modifier you own due to the weight and portability, etc so bringing a niche modifier would probably be at the bottom of my list as 90% of the time i need more power not less. Love your videos i just wish they would pop up on my feed more often. I just realised i haven't seen your previous 10 videos. I will definitely xheck them out.

Great Video. These are some things I'm currently experiencing. Last month I was robbed for my video camera at gunpoint and shot in the leg fracturing my femur. Happened at a park in broad daylight. I'm still relatively new to the camera game but the experience has opened my eyes to the fact that there can be some real concerns regarding safety. I'm not letting that stop me though. Keep up the great content. I just followed you on IG as well.

I use 50/50 sigma glass, it works great, can't say I had any AF problems EXCEPT with the 5d2. Sounds like you need to tune it, that should do the trick. I hate to see you miss out on literally the best bang for buck Glass on the planet, due to not adjusting the focus.

Thanks, I never thought about soft and diffused being different. I remember people saying for softer light you can bring the light closer, I'm now imagining this is because it increases the relative size of the light in relation to the subject right? But then because of inverse square law and it being closer, that means that there will be more specular highlights right? So if you wanted low specularity and high softness you'd need a HUGE light far away? Am I understanding correctly?

I never thought that anyone would even ask it. My first digital camera was an Ixus 30 and it had a 5.2 - 17.4 mm lens. I never thought it would give same results as 5.2 mm on full frame superficially as Canon clearly stated it was 35-105 mm equivalent.

Thank you. There is another point I thinkk: The importance of the modeling light. There is no modeling light on the bare bulb, and for me it is important to have a modeling light to see how you are changing it. So I think there is no choice it is the fresnel head. What is your opinion ?

This was a fun video, and the audio was no big deal… but your video made me realize why I never encounter this problem: My outdoor still photography shoots are always morning or evening magic hour, which not only serves as a kind of “natural ND filter,” but also a more flattering color & direction of ambient light anyway.
