  • This is a common leak in valleys of shingle roofs. Just a utility knife and the leak is fixed. Most people would use tar and caulking to make this roof repair, but that creates more problems.

    The bad thing is you drove your knife instead of pulled your knife, thus cutting the shingle underneath. Hook blades are to pull not press. Dub the corners on the tops as well helps.

    • @ramroad2008
      @ramroad2008 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a hook blade. It is nearly impossible to drive a hook blade down.

    after you finished cutting did you put sealant under the overlaping shingles after you cut? who knows if there shingles went over far enough on the underside

    Lol, its leaking because whoever did the roof before didnt dog ear the corners on the valley shingles

    It would be so intressting if you do a video, when you show us your day to day tools, like what tools do a roofer needs when your working with torchdown and so on.

    Won’t debris just build up again in the new shorter edge?

    • @panchotheaddict420
      @panchotheaddict420 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      no because the new edge is more up along the roof in instead of being down in the valley where water will naturally collect.

    I worked with my uncle he always put a tin valley

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is one way to do it. But, it is not always desirable to have a metal valley on a shingle roof because of the looks. With shingles covering the valley, it is less pronounced. The metal does give it a different look.

    What keeps debris from collecting under the new shingle line?

    • @jaketheheals
      @jaketheheals 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      By cutting a few inches away from the actual valley creates a trough for the water to flow thus never having debris build up

    So what if I have like an aluminum shingle running down the same pattern, does it also collects debris??.., because it leaked during some rain we had a couple of weeks ago... and the same leak we had 4 years ago ,i believe in the same spot,although I didn't see where exactly the leak was,I had some else repaired it for me...

    Loving that new look with the beard! I have a question for a flat and low slope EPDM roof. If there is a small tear, do you recommend a patch with a polyester fabric and silicone roof coating?

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You use the Super Silicone Seal with the Polyester Fleece to make the repair.
      Your question was incorrect. You cant use Polyester fabric by itself.

    • @FKS1994
      @FKS1994 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FlatRoofDoctor Okay, yes, that is what I meant. Is that a better option than just adding another layer of EPDM?

    After running the first course of shingles through the valley, I always take a water bottle, and pour it in the valley, and then snap a line just to the side of the waterflow, to make sure the water isn't fighting to get under the top course of shingles.
