    Thank you ever so much! With your detailed video, I figured out mine wouldn't start because some moron "professional" that worked on it last year didn't put the clip back in place, so the fuel was getting choked off! Smoked like crazy out of the muffler! I can't imagine what they would've charged me for the "fix". Runs like a charm now.

    Today my wheeler trimmer was stubbon- first start of the season. My mechanical hubby received his will earned Promotion a year ago. My trimmer has no choke. The primer bulb was not filling. I walked it around, tapped on the carb box a little, primed it about 20 times and it finally filled. I used it all day. Briggs & Stratton- Poulan Pro 190 cc.

    Nice steady explanatory Vid - Thanks , personally speaking most of my small engine issues that I experience relate to stale disgusting ethanol fuel gumming up the jets after 30 days it starts to degrade. The son-in-law ended up with one like this, only cheaper with no trimmer clutch but a plastic carb motor. I'd never even fooled with a plastic carb and probably didn't even know there was such a thing. I watched the Tube enough to see how to remove it and the bowl and that's as far as I went, being scared to fool with it at all but cleaned what I could and put it back on. Still wouldn't even pop so I was going to try it one last time and it fired up. I ran it some around our hilly yard to make sure it was going to do all right and it ran fine, but those trimmers are NOT what I'd use here, but he sold it and got a good price for it. But after watching you as much as I have I'd accept one with a plastic carb and never give it another thought. None of our stuff has one and I'm not hunting anything else BUT you never know. Thanks and Blessings!

    I have less than zero knowledge of mechanic work but this video was so good that I did everything advised by the narrator to my machine and it worked!!! I cannot believe it!! Thank you so much for the way you did the video and how you made it possible to follow in real world steps. So many of the instruction videos skip steps, don't narrate well or do not "show" what you need to see to follow them, but this couldn't have been more perfect. If a 54 year old woman can use it to mechanic repairs, then it's a great video. Thank you again. P.S. I did not mind the plastic parts, but I am a novice.

    If you take one of those bread twist ties and burn off the plastic wrap on it, they work great to clean out a carb with. A bent paperclip is not always the correct size to use for such. If you can get your thumb to cover that choke after you spray in carb cleaner of add some gas to the carb, it will often help in getting the gas initially primed to the carb. Nice and informative video.

    Of course I would fix it! They are easy to work on and don’t corrode. About the only thing that you see go wrong is the brass jet clogs, usually with broken down fuel. Magnify that x 10 if the fuel contains ethanol. Not too much sticks to plastic.

  • @TALLYTHER
    @TALLYTHER 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The problem with most plastic carburetors is they are prone to bacteria and algal growth forming on its surface starting at the microscopic level when moisture and petroleum products interface with them. As the bacteria/algal growth increases it breaks free and clogs the jets or other narrow passageways in the fuel system. Hard plastics do not have this problem as a rule. Soft plastics seem to act as a semi catalyst. Metal doesn't. But the same growth can occur in any petroleum based product itself if you let it set for a long time. But if you follow the petroleum industry's recommendation to replace fuel within a month there isn't sufficient time for the growth to become a problem. Note it isn't that the fuel will no longer burn! It just won't burn as efficiently or cause fuel flow issues.

    a good way to clear a carb is to squirt some gas in it like you did, then put your finger over the intake and block the intake. it creates a vacuum and a lot of times will suck whatever's in the jet out and clear it.

  • @darring4505
    @darring4505 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The first couple of revisions on these plastic carbs were terrible. very many had an interference in the choke linkage where by it would bind open ever so slightly. testing your patience whilst trying to start the unit. the other early units the holes in the plastic jet were too small. causing blockages very easily, especially if your gas had ethanol in it

    I have a craftsman walk behind trimmer with a 163 CC engine it stayed put up for a few months while I was getting the money for other parts, when I got the repairs done it would run rough then go dead, after I tried running it a few times it cleared up and ran good. A few days ago it starts locking up when pulling the starter rope, I turned the motor by hand and tried again, it starts and runs good. yesterday it locked up, so I repeated the process, and all it would do is lock up. Any clues, it's a Briggs and Stratton Dom 04-14-2016 stamped in the block, auto choke, and ohv

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the information but would like to know the model number that is on the framework of the machine. otherwise I think the carb is slowly leaking fuel into the engine and it's basically "hydro locking" the engine. Have you checked to see if the engine oil is above normal level and if the oil smells like gasoline?
