- @MerlinsOldSchoolGarage plucked this old Chevy Luv truck out of a field in Montana! Now that it has sat in the desert heat and sun for the last 7 years it has been rat infested and rotten! Merlin is going to fix up one of his all time favorite trucks to drive around like he did in his younger years.

Thanks for watching!
I wish the Auto manufacturers would bring back the small trucks for the in-between jobs.❤
They are too busy making humongous over complicated pricey trucks that for the most part never see a tablespoon of dirt. It took me a while to find a early Ford Ranger without all the bells and whistles. Other than the lack of cab space, I'll take an older Isuzu, Toyota, Nissan (Datsun), Mazda and maybe and maybe an older Ford Courier.
Ford makes the ranger and the maverick, Chevy still has the Colorado.
@@eshootziscrs2868 and they're all bigger than a full sized truck of the 80's and 90's
Nothing even slightly small about them.
The S10, Ranger, Dakota, etc used to be about half the size of a full sized truck not 1" smaller at max like today
Merlin, I think it's about time to get a lot to put some of your stuff like your cousin Paul. Your getting pretty packed. Lol
My old Taco that my son drives now is smaller than the new one's , is it just bigger is better or more they can charge. You don't need a big truck all the time. But more than 660cc tiny truck
I had 78 Luv in High School, circa 1990, and we put a used Isuzu G200 engine in it, added a DGAV 32/36 Weber, deleted the smog pump, and set of Hedman long tube headers on it.
Probably squeezed 90 to 100 hp out of the little 1949 cc motor.
Fun truck!!
Hell yes i was a minitrucker , still am. Its reassuring to know im not the only insane adult playing with toys.
Blast from the past for me. I had a '76 LUV. Drove that thing over 130 thousand miles all over the place. Thanks for the memories.
Merlin your work ethic is amazing. You manage to squeeze lemons into lemonade every week.
I can't believe I sat there while eating breakfast watching someone maintenanceizing a Chevy Luv. To my surprise I enjoyed every minute! You never cease to amaze.
She's gorgeous!!
Really cool looking old truck
Merlin, you're a magician.
That truck has risen from the grave(l).
used to drive a 1980 Courier about 40 miles to work on dirt roads, had a portable radio for tunes that came free with a Time magazine suscription 😆
I had one of these as my 1st car…
It was 2 years old!!!
That’s a sweet truck! Everything Merlin touches turns to a thing of beauty! Love the channel Merl!
I like that you do the old school brazing instead of welding
I miss my old luv
My 75 Chevy luv was pretty much one of the best trucks I ever owned. All 75 hp of it.
Lookin good Merlin.
LUV...Light utility vehicle ! 😁
I love you, Merlin
That four-cylinder sounds awesome
I've always wanted a LUV TRUCK
Lookin good Merlin!
I had a Chevy Luv/Isuzu, a Ford Courrier/Mazda, several Datsun 710s... I was a mini trucker!
Nice little runabout. I love it.
My dad had one and it never let us down
The Pott County Legend would be so proud of you guys.
The mini truck hoarder of Pott County! 😂
My Pops had a black 4x4 LUV with a 6.5' plow back in the 80's. He used to plow out everybody on the street. Up here in NH we can get a lot of snow. The truck never failed in its job. He was like a kid again when he was working that thing. Payment for his services usually involved a pie of some sort.
LUVn' it!!!
The Chevy Luv is a nice time capsule from back then. Thanks for sharing Merlin the Luv looks great..
Second best part of my Sundays are a morning with a video from MOSG....#1 of course is church.
An old friend had a Chevy Luv, we went everywhere in that truck, hardly ever had an issue, ran like a dream. Nice to see a mini back in action.
Great to see a classic back on the road
Those black Luvs with gold lettering were the coolest.
first car I ever bought was a 77 Luv long bed, 2wd, love what you did to this one, not a fan of the wheel choice or the lowering, but it's yours, you can have it how you like, I am a huge fan of saving these old cars
Gotta luv a Chevy luv.
My favorite Chevy truck, Chevy luv.
Looks fantastic Merlin, lowering it was the right call.😊
Haven't seen a Luv truck in years!
Miss my 78 Luv
Small trucks that worked.
Man it was a great time.
I restored 3 Chevy LUV trucks way back. A 78, an 80, and an 81 4WD. Very reliable trucks.
I worked with a guy who bought a new chevy luv. He put a stepside bed on it. Then a 350 small block. I moved and didn’t see him for a long time. I saw a website for chevy luvs. He was in it. The truck had a tube frame and tubbed. It ran in the nines. On the side of the truck was the name. Luvitation. He ran it around the Portland Oregon area.
I have more interesting stuff about my friend who had the luv truck. He had polio. His right hand didn’t work. He had a metal hook. He drove a drag car called the Chevaker. A studebaker with a Chevy motor. With a 4 speed. He could power shift it. I don’t remember the class it was in but someone said he was 3 tenths off a national record. I watched him as a kid but never realized I would be working with him. I remember he and a guy in a 55 Chevy gasser was usually in the final round. They ran at a track that no longer exists in Star Idaho. When I worked with him we worked construction. I was staying with my brother. My brother had a system. If he had a woman visitor he shut the blinds in a window. So I had to find somewhere else to go for the night. My friend with the chevy luv truck was giving me a ride home. I said I can’t go there. He said where are you going? I said I don’t know. We were in the luv truck with a 350. It was still street legal. He floored it and went sideways on dry pavement. I wasn’t worried. He can drive. He said “How about the county jail?”😂. Also we were in a bar. 2 women were trying to pick us up. We weren’t interested. When the women went into the bathroom. He said “ I don’t know if it’s apparent to you but we have to get the hell out of here “😂 We went out the back door and did a burnout out of there. Next time we were in the bar the bartender said when the women heard the tires squealing and realized it was us they very angry 😂
There are so many reasons that I enjoy your channel. Watching you work, reminds me of being a teenager sitting in my uncles garage. Good times!
Back in the day a guy in my neighborhood put a small block Chevy in one of them trucks and it was a rocket ship 🚀!!!
I had a 76 Luv cool little truck.
Back in the day after school we would have these little trucks lowered, air cleaner lid flipped, hot-wired, have an hour of cruising in and put back together before Dad got home.
Looks very sharp too!!
Cool old mini.
I had 3 Mazda trucks in the 80s 72,76, and a 84 .
Oh the memories.
Nice little hot rod merlin 🤙
Great little truck
Dean is the man glad to call him a friend
I think it's a cool little truck now
Sweet truck great job on the mini truck
You showed the little Chevy Luv some love!! Great little pickup!
I say you made that little truck much better an for sure much happier...
I wish I'd have known what I know now, that there would be days when light trucks like these wouldn't be available.
I'd have bought so many Luvs, Couriers, D50s, Datsuns, Toyotas, etc.
I went to high school with a guy who'd gotten one of the 1970's Chevy aluminum block V8s, and put it in a Luv over a summer. That was the world's most noisy, twitchy, and sketchy shade tree truck, but it was sure fun once the terror faded.
Outside of the US, the Luv name lives on, we call it the Colorado.
Big Sky Montana!!
I loved the 4x4 Chevy LUVS ...Always wanted one ..
Magical Merlin, never know what he's gonna pull outta his
hat. 😂😂
I have more stuff to tell you about my friend with the chevy luv truck. He had polio years ago. His right hand didn’t work. He had a metal hook. He drove a drag car called the Chevaker. It was a Studebaker with a Chevy motor. It had 4 a speed. He could power shift it. I don’t remember what class he in but someone said he was 3 tenths off a national record. I watched him as a kid but never relalized I would work with him. I remember he and a guy in a 55 Chevy gasser were usually in the final round. They ran at a drag strip that no longer exists in Star Idaho called Thunder Ridge We worked construction always out of town. I was staying with my brother in a travel trailer. My brother had a system. If he had a woman staying the night he would pull the blinds. My friend with the luv truck was giving me a ride home. I had to find somewhere else to stay. He asked where are you going? I said I don’t know. He floored it. We slid sideways on dry pavement. “ How about the county jail?”😂 I wasn’t worried. He can drive. Also we were in a bar. The next night we were in the bar the bar tender said when they came out of the bathroom and realized it was us they were very angry 😂 They obviously heard the burn out.
That is one sweet ride❤
I love those old trucks.
Awesome mini truck.
I ❤ minitrucking. More Luv please!
Back in the Late 80s I bought a 1973 F-100. I was sold on that truck because of the AM, one-speaker radio. I knew if it had been owned by a teenager, they would have added an AM/FM Cassette with Stereo speakers and it would likely have been driven much harder.
I’m 61 I had a buddy of mine when I first came out of the Air Force about 24 years old he had a Chevy love lowered pinstriped everything else that was awesome. That was it back then we were cool awesome Merlin love the tires and wheels too cool brother.
Antenna ball for the win.
That's badass Merlin!
I bought a 74 Luv in 79 while stationed in Guam for 3 years in the Navy. Taught my wife how to drive a stick shift in it lol. Always wanted to get a 4x4 one.
78 Luv was my first vehicle. My parents bought it when we moved from Arizona to SE Oregon because it was about the same price as renting a Uhaul to move the stuff the moving company wouldn't touch.
best one in the fleet ..
Mini trucker for life! I like it.
Light Utility Vehicle.....luv
My first truck at my first wedding was a 1974 Chevy luv stick, it was baby color green lol it lasted about 1 year, and that marriage about 5 years , lol😮thanks BigAl California.
Yup had 1 it was yellow good little truck duel points 😊
Mikado the emperor of mini pickup trucks!
Nice luv Chevy nice tires with hub it awesome bring old mini truck on road
Shoot, that thing will outlive us all. great job and a kool little ride. now it's gonna need some A/C.
Fantastic work your doing
Ahhhh the 80’s…Mini trucks and Beetles. That was the scene here on the east coast. I had both and was constantly tinkering on something….great times.!
Had a red '76 4X4 in the mid '80s, looking at a pic of it right now. Was a blast bombing around 2 tracks and sand hills, cheap on gas as a daily driver, all for $300!
Omg I had that same truck back in 1989 . I luved that truck. The bed tie downs were the best. It climbed hills like a goat.
71 courier...2300, coil drop front, top cut, rear wells clearances for 10.50 all terrains....loved it
I like the wheels and stance. Nice look.
It's not always about pulling the rabbit out of the hat, in this case it's evicting the rats out of the engine! Merlin the magician preforming his magic as usual! Giving Love to his Luv is why we all are amazed with his wizardly ways see his skills of being a master macanic! Catch you on the next.✌️ 😊
I like it,you sure know how pick a classic.
That's a blast from the past we all were trying to make low riders out of whatever we were driving I had a Datsun pickup
I raised my Datsun up and put big tires on it
I had a 81 ford courier that I shoehorned in a 351 Cleveland. Loved that little truck.
i luv😜 the automotive diversity going on at Merlin's!
You did a great job on that truck! 😀👍
Great job Merlin I really wish they made them again that's why the call them luv cause we love them
Gotta luv the smell of burnt clutch on three flats🇨🇦
I as had a chevrolet luv 4x4 yellow. Love that truck .
I had a Ford courier back in the late 80s and it was the best truck I ever owned. It was painted with house paint with a roller and still the best truck I ever owned
78 LUV puffs blue under the revs. Sounds and looks good. More to come.
I bought a used 1972 LUV in San Diego 2wd drove it all over the Anza Borego desert! Drove it hard never a problem. Great memories!
That old LUV is cleaning up nice. Uses a bit of oil, but you’ve got a running truck. These are just cool old pickups. My favorite LUV I the first gen 4x4 short bed in black with the white wagon wheels, raised white letter tires and round tail lights below the tailgate. In black with red interior upholstery. And the shiny front bumper and headlight trim.
The first truck I ever learned how to drive a stick in was my grandfather’s 1980 Chevy Luv 4x4.
Luv those small trucks
