Nice video! Was talking to Putney Routemaster legend Mike McDermott yesterday! Even ex London General RML2290 is back on the road now in central London!
Great! my memories of Putney are from 1983, worked near the BR Station and watched these buses change over here, usually at 8pm at night when I worked 3-10 in a wineshop in the Upper Richmond road. Did eventually co-own one with a late friend, it is now in Japan so at least it was saved.
I was three years working out of Putney on the Routemasters and loved every minute of it. The only job I ever had that I didn`t mind goig to. In my time the RMLs had 5.9 litre Iveco boat engines so the performance wasn`t that great. One bus that did perform well in all aspects was RML2626 and I loved driving it whenever I was rota`d onto it. Another I quite liked but was hated by everyone else was RML 2745, the airbus. So called because it had air brakes and could be stopped just where you wanted it to. Trouble was every time you let the hand brake off the Westinghouse flag came down. That was 2745 and may well have been the last Routemaster made, great days.
I think 2760 was the last one. I used to work near Putney station in a wine shop on the Upper Richmond road in 1983 and used to love going to see the Routemasters about 8pm at night. I co-owned one in 2011 with a late friend and drove some LT ones at Crewe - drove and RCL with the 11.3 engine which went well. Best bus ever made.
Fluoro lighting in a Routemaster? Criminals!! Sydney has a locality called Putney and there's a major bus depot in an adjacent suburb that was once filled with AECs -Regal IVs wIth American style body work and Regent IIIs -both double and single decker!
Most of the RMLs had a refurbishment... new interiors and seats, colour scheme.... not as good as the original but at least it kept them in service for another 10+ years.....
Ode to Routemaster... The roaring lions of London's streets, Retreat once more for slumber well deserved. Only to return at the next dawn, To rule majestically in their gleaming red, Their AEC, Leyland, Cummins engines roar, In Soi Buakhao's TH-cam, They rule our streets once more!
Thanks for reminding me..I drove the 22 on its last day..Best times
My pleasure .... I got to play on the last day antics on the 19, 38 & 159s..... Better than playing with the usual Darts, Tridents and Titans......
thats cute my dad works in there till now he worked in 2005 starting in the last year of the routemaster he is still there,

so neat...I don't remember Putney looking so urban, we'd sometimes bunk off to there from Sheen
22 used to run all the way to Hackney, was a great ride through all the tiny backstreets
Yes, back before LT split long routes up in order to get ready to sell off London Buses Ltd.....
8th again ce la vie...
