- How to relatively easy fight and defeat MK1's bosses, Goro and Shang Tsung. Played as Sonya while both boss battles where fought in succession so that the difficulty wouldn't reset.
This isn't exactly a skill exhibition, I mainly relied on projectiles and jump kicks, to show how the CPU works, it doesn't have a "mind" of its own, it simply reacts to what you're doing while having the advantage in most situations.

This isn't exactly a skill exhibition, I mainly used projectiles and jump kicks, to show how the computer works. The CPU in MK1-3 doesn't have a "mind" of its own, it simply reacts to what you're doing while having the advantage in most situations. Of course, if you're standing idle, it will eventually come to you and attack or throw your character, or if you jump back, it'll throw a projectile etc.

I remember when Goro came out my adrenaline rushing and Shang Tsung's screaming skull fireballs freaking me out. I was a child lol. Fond memories with siblings.
Wow I totally agree with you and had to reply to this. I was so scared of hearing Goro walking and yelling before he dropped down and when he did I was so intimated to fight him. I wasn’t expecting him to come down and stand right next to me. Shangs screaming skulls also sent me chills. I was 9 playing this game in a dark arcade.
Same here those last two boss fights get pretty intense. The music is so dark and scary. Goro is absolutely horrifying when you first see him his attacks are brutal and overpowering. Shang Tsung morphing into all the characters....best dramatic boss fight ending. I never get tired of seeing it still after all these year's it's perfection. Just about everything they did in the '90s we're dope a.f.
Once you figure out Goro's pattern, he's pretty easy. I can beat him and Shang Tsung 90% of the time, and also beat the game on one credit most of the time (arcade rom)
Goro and Shang Tsung scared the shit out of me when I was a kid, especially Shang Tsung and the way he just floats. This game came out when I was like 7 and down here in Mexico it was like a forbidden game because of the violence and fatalities.
They still are super creepy.

the reason why Shang Tsung morphed in to other character was because the makers had run out of memory in the game to give him a full moveset.
Well I mean look at him though he’s got the body of a 90 year old I mean it wouldn’t be believable and his look makes him look like a sorcerer anyway

9 times out of 10 he turned into Goro.

Eventually, the morph move would be incooperated into playable Shang Tsung starting in the second Mortal Kombat.

On the SNES version it's slower
After something like 25 years of lore and sequels, it can be nice to come back to older entries and see how they were able to capture the magic the first time.
In MK1 you had "endurance matches" where you have to fight two fighters one after the other, but Goro takes things up a notch. Unlike the other endurance matches, he interrupts you during your victory pose. And he's easily the most inhuman thing in the game. Sure you had Raiden the thunder god, but even he was still outwardly human, at first glance he was more like a wizard than a god. But then Goro this roaring four-armed THING comes on down and tries to crush you.
For the final boss, the game needs to go for a big finale, a culmination of everything you've fought for. MK1 goes for the literal approach, with a shapeshifter. You've beaten all the fighters one by one, but now there's this guy who can be any of them, can seemingly use any of their moves. Even your own moves. All of their strengths, with supposedly none of their weaknesses
It was amazing for its time, and I still think it is honestly.

I first played this in 1993, just before MKII came out.
When Goro landed right in front of me (Scorpion), I'd briefly dropped the controller because I was expecting a loading screen, and I was so shock-ed and stunn-ed that it took me a full 3 seconds to actually pick up the controller and get back to playing.
That first time, he slaughtered me in both rounds.

The eyes in the background the way shang tsung looks like a old man floating and then transforming into different characters, Creepy stuff also guro with the skeleton in the background.
It all was a really sinister vibe… even the vocals and the sound of the announcers voice is more scary…. I’ll never forget this shit. Good times

MK1 Goro scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.
MK1 Goro and Shang Tsung were joke bosses compared to Kintaro, Motaro and Shao Khan.
Sonya is a woman of cuture as well praising a sun with each victory.

To this day my 2 favorite characters in mortal kombat
I don't know what's ahead in the new CGI games since I stopped playing beyond MK4. But in the first MK games featuring live actors, we never get to see the original Shang Tsung from MK1 as a playable character. He still wasn't included in the MK: Trilogy switchable characters.

Despite being so vicious Goro is actual a beginner in Muay Thai. He goes to my dojo. He’s very self conscious but we are all very patient with him.
Maybe shokans have a literal Achiles heel weakness and need to cover it.
The first we beat Shang Tsung is unforgettable
0:22 i had mk deception and the mk1 playable bonus disk since i was 2 (my dad collected ps2 games so I'd know all the classics back then 😁) and when i beat goro or lost to goro in the first round and he growled like that coming at me i would feel chills in my spine and get goosebumps.
I remember the first time I fought Shang Tsung I almost lost the first but the second was easy...until he turned into Goro

MK 1 is the best on the series ,the music and stages have no equal .
While yes, mk1 is a classic, and proportionally a great game and one of the best, it's just blatantly ignorant and unfair to say this is better than any of the newest mk games.
Umk3 actually was the best.

I played on PC, Arcade perfect version.
I have this game on the ps3. It’s damn near identical to the arcade version except for the Goro stage. There’s no music for that fight. That bummed me out because it was my favorite level in that game.

theres a glitch that you can play as the boss characters but it may crash your game

The fact that you couldn't finish these two off with a Fatality after the second Round made me fear these guys as a little fella even more and I still don't know why...
Like if they had some kind of superiority over the other fighters.
(But Goro and Shang Tsung DO have a superiority, they're bosses, but still...)
They dont even say flawless victory when goro gets one... its like he was expected to flawless.

The cartridge might be damaged. Try buying another one, or get the Arcade Kollection version on PC because it's not that demanding.

Reason: Fighting against Shao Kahn in The Pit III is like a inferior version of fighting against Shang Tsung in Goro's Lair (with the Throne Room music) in regards of the final boss announcing when they're fighting.
