The 2nd Beast Busters game on the Hyper Neo-Geo 64 was also quite the gorefest, it was in 3D you'd blow the zombies heads off or their entire torso which would result on tons of blood gushing from the waist. It was actually pretty fun, the guns were machine guns similar to Gunblade NY which also had a rumble function.
The problem with Blood Storm is that they are just using violence for the sake of violence and it has no taste, where as Mortal Kombat has a coolness factor and good character design and violence is just part of the game.

Night Slashers is one of those overlooked gems. Pretty solid game, satisfying combat, good music, and a reasonable difficulty curve for an arcade game.
I think the most violent arcade game I've played in my life is Carnevil. Enemies would get more and more disfigured the more shot them until whatever limb you were shooting finally came off. Not to mention the terrifying enemy designs. Beast Busters second nightmare would come in second.
I have never even seen the splatterhouse arcade cabinet. I thought it was a tg16 original for years because that was the original i first saw. And to this day i havent actually seen the original arcade standup. I know it exists but it was never in any of the arcades i went to. They had all the neogeo cabinets with the blood turned off so it looked like the enemies were vomiting milk. And mortal kombat was what everyone thought was the most gorey. But it was actually pretty tame compared to other games that never got the attention it had. Tecmo knight was far more brutal than MK and so was splatterhouse. But those werent in every arcade. The only place i ever saw tecmo knight was in a flea market arcade that had a bunch of stuff i never heard of. Tecmo knight was like a brutal version of golden axe. I did play that a lot. I owned splatterhouse on tg16. And emulated the arcade version after i learned it existed. So i have played it. But i have never physically seen a splatterhouse arcade stand up. I would have clogged it with coins and wore the buttons off it if i had.
Between Mortal Kombat and Samurai Shodown - there is a hyperspace jump in terms of gore. The former is the revolutionary turning point of realistically presented violence and gore, while the latter - is nothing more than a cartoony PG-13 circus in that regard. Right along with Jerry, when he's angry at Tom.

MK2 is in Germany still banned, as far as i remember. The old games were better, those death screams are matchless, They wont do that anymore in the newer games, or they will get forbidden too, great graphics (details) + those disturbing screams = forbidden/BAN
I noticed a pattern. Dismemberment usually equals blood. Blood has to spray like a Quentin Tarantino movie. The exceptions are _Altered Beast_ (1:41) and Red Earth (6:43). I believe this is a wise and creative choice. Dismemberment is eye catching and grabs players attention. Putting a ton of blood can be a bit distracting and alienate certain audiences.
With Haohmaru now in Soul Calibur 6, It made the game way more gory. Since Soul Calibur 4 and the addition of Critical Finishes, for the first time in the series, it is strongly suggested that now characters can die during combats, as many character's Critical Finishes will show your opponent dead on the ground (no breathing animation and motionless). Yoshimitsu basically cut his opponents head off without actually cutting off the head or Algol crushing his opponent with his throne, then again without having blood, organs and body parts splattered everywhere. It never was at the level of mortal kombat but with the addition of Haohmaru in Soul Calibur 6, for the first time in the series it actually show blood ( and quite lot of it). What make it more gut wrenching is when you use Hoahmaru's Rage Explosion Critital Edge on Talim, a sweet and purehearted 15 year old girl (She could be the equivalent of Nakoruru or Rimururu). Hoahmaru will slice her open, with her blood spewing and raining down everywhere, then she fall dead on the ground, motionless, with the camera lingering on her dead body in the background.

Most of the time enemies just fall over when you beat them but if you hit them with certain attacks or weapons they can be cut in half, or outright explode into pieces, usually just leaving their legs. My boy Kassar can do a spinning desperation move that cuts people in half, and a special power punch that explodes the top half of the body. WITH NOTHING BUT HIS FISTS!
Where is the 1986 arcade game Chiller? It is a lightgun arcadegame where you have to torture and dismember victims in the most gruesome way. Very distasteful and fun

While MK didnt start or end with the gore and blood it did it the best and still does imo with the insane fatalities over the years as well as brutalities. MK took ir to new hieghts with causing the ESRB system Sub-zero's headrip will forver be infamous lol 😆 alot of these others made by midway too like narc and smash tv, total carnage etc they made some of the most violent games in the 90s beaidea MK of course. Bloodstorm looks much MUCH worse than I remember it. But to be fair I only played once and the cpu did some kind of fatality on me that warped me through multiple levels and then after a flash my body was just a pile of meat and blood. It was bad ass!!!
Primal Rage had some pretty gruesome attacks/fatalities.

It really pains me to pull off Fatalities in Samurai Shodown, honestly. Especially if it’s on someone so innocent like Nakoruru.
I have an unending weakness in such a game. I refuse to deal a "deathblow" to her or her little sister.

The generically named light gun shooter “Space Gun” might be more bloody than any you put on the list lol aliens explode and their innards hit the screen and slide down it
While MK didnt start or end with the gore and blood it did it the best and still does imo with the insane fatalities over the years as well as brutalities.
MK took ir to new hieghts with causing the ESRB system Sub-zero's headrip will forver be infamous lol 😆 alot of these others made by midway too like narc and smash tv, total carnage etc they made some of the most violent games in the 90s beaidea MK of course. Nice vid!

Bloodstorm looks much MUCH worse than I remember it. But to be fair I only played once and the cpu did some kind of fatality on me that warped me through multiple levels and then after a flash my body was just a pile of meat and blood. It was bad ass!!!
