Gerry Goffin and Carole King, the song was inspired by Atlantic Records co-owner and producer Jerry Wexler. As recounted in his autobiography, Wexler, a student of African-American musical culture, had been mulling over the concept of the "natural man", when he drove by King on the streets of New York. He shouted out to her that he wanted a "natural woman" song for Aretha Franklin's next album. Song was written for Aretha & recorded in 1967 then 4 years later Carole records her version on Tapestry Album
I have listened to many who sang this song but somehow my heart always come to Carole. Her voice and the way she share the story of this song is simply and naturally phenomena.
It’s too bad that women today sleep around and get into troubled relationships with assholes and then when they realize they want to be with a man that’s going to actually treat them right and take care of them they are all used up and stretched out.
This song has Power of an understanding , of Balance which is need . To work as One , given many moments . The balance is a union of care , a union Respect for what is Best . Not just for us but those we have not met . Ms. KING is beyond a Treasure that can not measure . Miss King has a Light , that can not be Bought . Love has no Price , it's Free .
I can honestly say that at 56 years old, a musician as a youngster and a lifelong music fan, until today I had never heard of Carole King!! After spending the morning binge watching her videos I now can't see how that was even possible. What a beautiful, talented individual. Late to the party but a new fan.
I love how understated it is when she sings it. Not trying to hit any high notes or anything. Just singing. Tapestry was one of the first albums I remember hearing.
Yes. Carole King's voice transcends into the universe. Her voice, her talent, her connection with humanity is raw. It gets down into your bones and stays there. Her voice becomes a part of your soul. She inspires me to reach into the depth and breath of my heart, to give as much of my God given talent to God as I possibly can; Back to God and out into the universe.

Love this song! It perfectly expresses to me how deeply being in love can change the way you feel. Carole King's version is so real, without relying on anything but the pure emotion.
I always thought that Aretha sounded like she was just walking through the song. Her version is still great just because of the quality of her voice, but as far as I'm concerned she just walked through it without making much of an effort.
I disagree. I am sorry you don’t feel emotion with Aretha. That is what she does best. That is what she is famous for. That is what she taught Whitney Houston and any singer that she has EVER mentored. Her emotion and her vocal ability and power is what make her the greatest female singer of all time ( with Etta James in my opinion). Carol conveys emotion and gives a lovely quirky and emotional performance, but these ladies are on two different lanes. Carol is more of a songwriter than a singer. We all need to know our lane in life. And we all know who the queen is. 👑
