  • Carole King is one of my favorite artists. She has written over 100 hits on the Billboard charts. Her Tapestry album sold over 10 million copies. I have seen her perform many times over the last 40 years. Thank you Carole King! Aretha Franklin's performance still gives me goosebumps. Epic!

Sadly a reflection of how Mrs. Franklin was often treated earlier in her career: she cited not getting paid her promised fee by many promoters as the reason for always insisting on getting paid cash-in-hand prior and taking her handbag with her on stage. The habit seems to have stuck. A reminder of the sad treatment of artists of color in the past.

Aretha took them to Church! She reached out and touched the heart's and stirred the soul! So moving! Tears were being wiped from eyes. People were raising their hands and standing to their feet! She could sing the phone book and make you feel that every word was just for you! She was so humble looking towards Carole as to say this is Your song and I'm honored to sing it. Never acting prideful as to say look at me I'm the queen they call Aretha! She was one of a kind. So special! Totally gifted and blessed with talent and inspired many to lift up their voice and sing! ❤️

That woman could touch your soul .. To have the privilege to grow up listening to legendary great singer of all time .. imagine the emotions stirred in that room. Carol King was ecstatic but what a legend in her own right . I was riding the streets of LA with my cousin John ( JT) and when It’s too late came on the radio . It caught my ear and stayed with me all my life. To see her honored is such a great thing. Give her flowers while she’s alive. President Barrack Obama and First Lady Michelle did some incredible things in his 8 years of office . Such a class act. And then room was filled with appreciation what a story line . when you see that handbag, you knew she didnt show up, for shits and giggles...it was game on, "where my runner-ups at?". I miss her swag...her low key smarts....her flair for the dramatic..and her presence. NONONE could touch her in that department. I actually downloaded on a flash drive, her entrance and performance at Clinton's 1st inaugural concert at the old Capitol Center in Landover, MD. She was helped up the stairs by Edward James Olmos, and walked across the stage, hand outstretched, as she presented herself to the crowd..and then eyes popped out when she unwrapped and mink-trimmed, silk cloak..with a yellow Valentino gown under it...and showed perfect form, with a curtsy to the "first couple'. You really did believe you were in the presence of royalty. I'll never forget it..
