  • If you have a rusty bumper that you want to repair, restore and re-chrome without spending thousands of dollars then this video is for you. We're going to show the full process from stripping the rust off, priming it, painting it, and re-chroming it all within an hour, and it's only going to cost us $100. When we're done it will resemble a 1937 DeSoto ribbed bumper 🚨

Bad Chad is one cool dude!! Thank you for what you do Sir!
I was in the Automotive Service business for 26 years and now I sit at home missing being in the business and around the Techs and their families and the customers. It was my life and they were my family!
I became disabled at 57, I feel like I’m going a little crazy sometimes from loneliness and generally miss not being around the People and the shop smells and feelings that go with it.
You have brought me joy! I feel like you are the real deal, and I again can almost feel like I’m in the shop again making things happen and getting things done!!
Again thank you Bad Chad for being really good Chad!!
You are a good guy with a really big heart, helping me and a lot of other people just like me.

Yessir, I know what you are saying! I am now working from home because of all the COVID craziness. I miss, and am sure many more do as well, being around my fellow workers. It has been a long 2 years! I am afraid this is gonna be the new normal. This is NOT gonna go well for companies in the future, because we all do better if we are around each other and working as a team to accomplish a goal. This working separately as a team will impact peoples mental health and cause us to become further a part. Just my take!

I have enjoyed every day of my retirement. 12 years now? I am divorced many years now and never get lonely. Everyone is different but I was always someone who could spend time alone. tho... that is pretty rare these days. I am fortunate to have friends I have had for sometimes half a century but also younger people who I used to supervise but still drop by couple times a week. The other thing is that I have a lot of hobbies. too many LOL. I have been nickel plating some tools and firearms lately. I have always had guns and hot rods and Harley's (old ones) I handload ammo and go shooting with my friends on private property couple times a month. Every hobby I have means that I got to learn 4 more skills for it!! Not enough time in the day. I too am 'disabled' meaning in my case I was paralyzed from the waist down but have recovered toddler like balance and walking speed since (hey beats a wheel chair) What it means in my case tho is that the more things I can do without crawling all over some car or whatever the better off. making knives or gun grips is not heavy work and I find I stick with projects a bit better than before. Soooo many new tools and ways to do things lots to learn. Who would have thought back in the day we could get a stick welder for $75 that is the size of a shoe box? Also cordless tools. I just about have a cordless version of all my tools now. way simpler and less frustrating. Who would have thought you could silver or nickel plate smallish items at home? One thing tho is my house is a mess.... which is fine for my friends...people often just walk in or out. My GF does not care and lives 700 miles away so we see each other for a week or two every 3 months. those visits I kick everyone out for LOL Anyway... not knowing your situation... I was pretty bummed when they told me it was wheelchair only. But I already was lining up stuff that I could do but... being ornery by nature I managed to get some semblence of upright mobility. Used to love to go for long walks to think... had to just admit that is not gonna happen again. but I have discovered new things to do.

Dear Rick, please do not feel so alone. Many of us are in similar situations, and I was touched by your story, and it reminded me of how I used to be, and others I know. Loneliness is truly the most painful torture. I love you brother, wherever you may be. Life goes on, and people come and go, but I can say that the best friend I have ever had is Jesus

Hi Chad enjoyed this episode very much. Out of all the car channels on U Tube your outdoor setting is the most beautiful one. You and Jolene have a wonderful place to film. The decoration and design of your acreage is unique. Your White Rose sign took me back 62 years to when I was 10 years old. I used to fill my bike tires up at the White Rose station in Alberta. Another bonus is of your pure Maritime life style and setting like a breath of spring air! Please do me one favor Chad and give your dog Fina a pet when she comes close. Jolene regularly films her while you are working and I love animals. We have a real nice Dog Star in Alberta who is a major character in a U Tube car channel filmed on an acreage here. More Fina is good buy me! Sorry to blab on on but keep the good stuff coming guys it is my therapy.

OMG-- I LOVE LOVE LOVE the vintage-looking result!! So 1930s and GORGEOUS!!! Wish I could add this kind of bumper to my 2007 Subaru (i.e., more chrome...with super light baby blue paint...) I know that sounds weird..but I love the way the 5-speed manual drives. I'm in love with 1930-1950's cars. (My fave is Mercedez 300SL 1957...but will never be able to afford it...) Love those older vintage round and curved lines and all the chrome accents.

I really like these chrome adhesive strips, 😎👍 they are perfect for window frames or decorative strips etc .. But on a wider and more curved surface, such as a bumper, you could also use chrome vinyl films (car wrapping).

I have used aluminum duct tape for chroming stuff get it at the hardware store it's for sealing furnace duct work comes in rolls 3 inches wide and 200 foot long for about $35.00 easy to apply just roll out the length you need , cuts easily with just scissors , Peel the backing off and stick it down take a rag and polish it to a shine this stuff is great and easy to do and it will last forever I use it for the bumpers and window trim even interior pieces , you will be able to get at least 3 complete cars easily with 1 roll of tape .

To help with making your chrome molding more flexible. Make yourself a worming box. 3/4" plywood 2' x 2' x 2' box with a hinged lid. Attach a light bulb base to the bottom of the lid. Run the wire out the top or hinged side of the box. I would give yourself 6' of cord with a plug. Get yourself a 40 watt incandescent light bulb. (Buy a couple for when any burn out) Place your molding in the box. Plug in the light and close the lid. Let the molding sit in the box a minimum of 15 to 30 min. (Times may vary in the size of molding and out side temp.) This will worm up the molding so it is more flexible for going around curves and such. We used these boxes for our door, side body and running board molding in the Van conversion industry. Plus it helps a lot in the cold winter months.

That's not re-chroming a bumper! That's covering it with plastic That's chrome color . In a year or 2 it will weather and start fading and pealing then u spend another 160 to redo. Why not just have it really recorded for about $280 and be done? Love bad Chad and his videos, don't like this idea.

I’ll admit, when I seen 3/4 strips it wasn’t what I expected at all. Now that it’s done I like it just fine.

That's wild! If I can ever get my hot mess to the point where it might need chrome I'm going to remember this.

Got to admit I was 'skeptical until I realized you were making a ribbed bumper. My only problem now is the glue... I remain skeptical '

I’m spending almost $1700 to repair (has a few dents) and re-chrome a rear bumper for a 68 Ford Galaxie 500XL. It kills me to spend that much because a 78 Galaxie fastback is not a 68 Dodge Charger. I won’t make money on this car. I could not find a place that refurbishes and re-chromes classic car bumpers for a lower price than that.

A six inch piece of pipe with a different size nut welded in the end will give you something to screw the bolt into and serve as a holder for when you want to grind the bolt heads, it's nice for polishing bolts (like stainless). Good work Chad,
